Poirot star shares 'emotional' response to new Agatha Christie series

Sir David Suchet has shared that he became "extraordinarily emotional" during his participation in a new Agatha Christie documentary series.
The 79-year-old actor, renowned for his portrayal of the iconic sleuth Hercule Poirot, spoke candidly on ITV's This Morning about his latest programme, Travels with Agatha Christie and Sir David Suchet.
This docuseries will chronicle the stalwart novelist Agatha Christie's inherent steps as David embarks on an enchanting expedition of discovery.
Engaging with This Morning's hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, David conceded that retracing Christie's past journeys, especially through her diary accounts, evoked an intensely heartfelt reaction from him.
One particularly striking segment occurred in Victoria Falls, with David recalling how moving the encounter was for him. "The big thing for me in South Africa, which was extraordinarily emotional, was to witness Victoria Falls," reports Wales Online.
David elaborated on his profound impressions by saying: "You know, I've been around quite a while and I've seen some amazing things, but to stand and feel the vibration of the ground, because the actual water doesn't fall into a river.
"The water of Victoria Falls falls onto a rock, so you really feel the force, and to see it, you feel about that size."
During their conversation, Ben pointed out David's emotional journey, stating, "You get very emotional throughout this trip," to which David earnestly responded, "Well, it was a very emotional trip!"
News broke approximately a year earlier that the celebrated former Poirot actor would set out on a stirring retracement of Agatha Christie's impressive early travels.
David is keen to delve further into the life of the distinguished author, whose tales he has become intimately familiar with after playing her famed Belgian sleuth for over two decades.
Audiences can tune in to witness his exploration in Travels with Agatha Christie and Sir David Suchet, which will be broadcast on More4 at 9pm on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025.
Commenting on the series when it was initially revealed, David expressed in a release: "I feel that [Christie] will be sitting on my shoulders at every moment, urging me on to share her passion for knowledge, travel, archeology and, of course, mystery."
Furthermore, he remarked, "She was vivacious. On board the ship, she openly writes in her diary that she was kept up into the early hours with one of the officers on board. The Agatha Christie that I was discovering during my journey was happy. She was a little bit flirty," he added.
