Android Studio adds AI-powered testing and smarter crash diagnostics
Now that Google's I/O 2025 conference is over, it's worth noting that the Big G introduces several new features in Android Studio, aimed at improving the process of developing Android applications.
The latest version integrates more advanced AI tools, streamlines interface design and testing, and includes features to help developers prepare for future updates to the Android platform. These updates are intended to reduce manual work, improve app quality, and speed up development. Fingers crossed! If you're reading this, there's a high chance that you're already familiar with Android Studio, but let's explain things for those who are reading this out of curiosity. Android Studio is the platform that helps people make apps for Android phones and tablets. Think of it like a special toolkit or workshop where app creators write the code that tells the phone (or tablet, if you like) what to do. Android Studio also helps people test the app to make sure it works well before people download it. Now, there's a major addition: the deeper integration of Gemini 2.5 Pro, Google's latest AI model. This tool is now available within Android Studio and assists throughout the development process by offering suggestions and automating certain tasks. One of the experimental features, called "Journeys", allows developers to create tests by describing user actions in plain language. Gemini then runs these tests on physical or virtual Android devices and provides results directly in the development environment.Android Studio also includes improvements in diagnosing and fixing app crashes. The App Quality Insights panel can now analyze crash-related code and, in some cases, suggest code changes to fix the issue. Developers can review and apply these changes within a few steps.For user interface development, the Compose preview tools have been updated. Developers can now navigate components more efficiently, resize previews to see how layouts adjust to different screen sizes, and test UI changes more quickly. The Android XR Emulator now runs in an embedded window by default, allowing developers to build and inspect extended reality features without leaving the main interface.Several experimental and upcoming features are also being tested. Android Studio Cloud, currently in preview, allows developers to access a virtual version of Android Studio through a web browser, removing the need for local installation.
Another tool, the Version Upgrade Agent, will analyze dependencies in a project and automatically suggest and apply updates. A new "Agent Mode", still in development, is designed to carry out more complex tasks by editing multiple files and resolving related issues based on developer input.

iPadOS 26 announced with macOS-style multi-tasking
Apple today announced iPadOS 26 at WWDC 25, which brings with it significant improvements in multitasking abilities, visual design, and AI capabilities. Let's start with the multitasking abilities, which have received a significant boost with this release. iPadOS 26 has greatly revamped app window management, which allows users to open multiple apps at the same time. Apps can be minimized, resized, and tiled and the OS can arrange them with a single flick. iPadOS 26 borrows Exposé from macOS, so you can quickly see all your open windows spread out on a single screen. And with Stage Manager, you can group windows into separate stages, which can also be split into internal and external displays. Another major macOS feature being borrowed is the menu bar. Apps can now have a menu bar at the top, which can be enabled with a simple swipe down or by moving the mouse pointer to the top. This shows a full-fledged menu bar, much like you'd see on a Mac, and developers can also customize it to suit their app. You might also notice macOS-style close, minimize, and resize controls in the corner. The Preview app from the Mac also makes an appearance on the iPad with iPadOS 26. Now you can open all your images within this app while also being able to open and edit PDF files. It can even be used to draw and write on using the Apple Pencil. Further complementing the multitasking capabilities are updates to Background Tasks. Now, apps that produce a long-running process, such as exporting a video or uploading a large file, can appear in Live Activities, allowing you to keep track of them while performing other tasks. Developers will have access to the updated Background Tasks API to let their apps take advantage of this feature. The Files app also gets an overhaul on iPadOS 26. It has a new UI with an updated List view that shows more files on screen at once with additional information. Folders can be customized with custom colors, icons, and emojis to make them more identifiable. Also, files can be dragged out from any folder onto the dock for easier access. Other new features include being able to choose different microphones for each app or even individual websites. Voice Isolation removes ambient noise from recorded audio and those with select AirPods models will also get 'studio-quality' recording. Local capture lets you capture a high-quality recording of audio and video from any video conferencing app, so you can save or share these recordings afterward. Finally, much like Apple's other platforms, iPadOS 26 is getting a fresh new coat of paint with Liquid Glass. This redesigns many UI elements with a new translucent material layer that responds to the content underneath it. iPadOS 26 also gets improved AI capabilities with new Apple Intelligence features, such as Live Translation in Phone, FaceTime, and Messages. You also get updated Shortcuts features with more powerful options that let you summarize text and create images. iPadOS 26 will be available as a developer beta today and as a public beta next month. Final release will be out later this year for iPad Pro (M4), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later), iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later), iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (A16), iPad (8th generation and later), iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad mini (5th generation and later).

Samsung is wasting no time mocking Apple for its 'familiar' new announcements
Feeling underwhelmed by Apple's barrage of WWDC 2025 announcements? Predictably enough, Samsung is sharing that sentiment, using its super-popular official Mobile US X account to do what the tech giant often does best - no, not sell foldables like hotcakes, but rather poke fun at the competition for attention. As always, the world's number one smartphone vendor makes a few good points... and a few not-so-great ones, highlighting that a bunch of the "new" iOS 26 features are inspired by Android and One UI while failing to recognize that Samsung and Google constantly take after Apple as well. Customizable apps? Floating bars? That sleek glass UI? Looks… familiar — Samsung Mobile US (@SamsungMobileUS) June 9, 2025 That's just the way the mobile industry works and has worked for many years, and as much as we'd all like to see one, nobody will ever build an entirely original operating system from the ground up. All that being said, it's hard to deny that Apple has opened itself to a rare level of ridicule with an almost shocking inability to keep up with its arch-rivals in the AI development field. Samsung correctly points out that Apple Intelligence is being added to the world's top-selling smartwatches later than everyone expected, with Galaxy AI present on the Galaxy Watch family since last year. New AirPods update makes filming and recording way easier
Apple's latest WWDC 2025 wasn't just about iOS 26, iPadOS 26 and the new macOS Tahoe – Apple also gave AirPods some updates that content creators (and probably everyday users) will appreciate. Apple previewed a set of new features coming to the latest AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC (active noise cancelation) and AirPods Pro 2, including studio-quality audio recording and a camera remote control. These upgrades are designed to make capturing content easier and to improve call quality across Apple devices. The new studio-quality audio recording feature lets users record high-quality vocals using just their AirPods, even in noisy environments. Powered by the H2 chip, beamforming mics and computational audio, the update improves voice clarity whether you're on a FaceTime call, recording a Voice Memo, or dictating a message. The new feature will let you isolate your voice while recording. | Image credit – Apple Apple is also expanding this to apps like Webex, CallKit-enabled platforms, and third-party camera apps, making it way more useful for creators who are always on the move. Another big feature is the camera remote functionality. You can now press and hold the AirPods stem to start a video or snap a photo using the iPhone or iPad camera – and press again to stop recording. It's ideal for solo creators who need to stay hands-free while filming themselves singing, dancing, or vlogging. These features are already available for testing through the Apple Developer Program, with a public beta coming next month. They will officially roll out this fall as a firmware update alongside iOS 26 , iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26. And if Apple finally ends up dropping AirPods Pro 3 later this year, you can bet all these new features will show up there, too.
