Cowboys Urged To Sign Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander After Packers Cut

Cowboys Urged To Sign Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander After Packers Cut originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
FRISCO - It took 10 seconds.
Within 10 seconds after the Monday morning breaking news on the Green Bay Packers leaking their decision to release two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, the texts started coming in.

Within a few minutes after that, social media and the internet were ablaze.
And here we go again, with your Dallas Cowboys attached to an available big name ... with nobody pausing to take a breath to consider the facts.
First, to Green Bay, where the two sides have been attempting for months to work out a revised contract ... with the team uncomfortable with continuing to pay Alexander on the four-year, $84 million extension they just gave him a year ago.
What is their issue? Injuries, mostly, as Alexander has missed significant time in three of the past four seasons.
In other words, to some degree, he's the Packers' version of Trevon Diggs.
When healthy? He's a two-time Pro Bowl cornerback (like Diggs).
He's still young at 28. (Diggs will turn 27 this season.)
But as excited as Cowboys Nation gets about stuff like this, Dallas' hesitation here will — and should — mirror Green Bay's hesitation.
Jaire's cap numbers presently? That'd be $25 mil for this year and $27 mil for next year ... though there is contractually escapability after 2025.
So ... he could be a one-year rental ... and maybe he won't demand $20 million plus.
Of course, if you're going to do that, why not just trade for Miami's Jalen Ramsey? (Which the Cowboys are openly saying they have no interest in doing.)

Alexander was a 2018 first-round pick; he's got pedigree. While totaling 12 interceptions over his career, he's a playmaker. ... though not on a level with Diggs. ...
Which brings us back to Dallas.
In 2023. Diggs played just two games. He played 11 games in 2024 before he suffered another season-ending injury. Now he might miss half of this season.
They therefore have DaRon Bland and a bunch of guys in the cornerback room at present.
Should the Cowboys "jump at the chance '' to sign Alexander? No.
Should they explore it, call on it, ponder the finances and the injuries and the risks? Sure.
But that takes more than 10 seconds. Or even 10 minutes.

Rick Carlisle on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 'You can mark down 34 points'

Jun 8, 2025; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA; Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle looks on during the fourth quarter against the Oklahoma City Thunder of game two of the 2025 NBA Finals at Paycom Center. Mandatory Credit: Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images Only seeing him twice a year in the regular season, Rick Carlisle has quickly grown accustomed to the frustrations teams face against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He's an unsolvable Rubik's Cube. Take away one spot, he'll slither his way to another. As the Oklahoma City Thunder evened the 2025 NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers at 1-1 apiece, Carlisle said Gilgeous-Alexander belongs in a special group of players who are unguardable. Three straight 30-point campaigns and an MVP trophy will earn you that type of respect. Advertisement Gilgeous-Alexander is off to a historic start in his NBA Finals experience. His 72 points scored through two games are the most anybody has put up in their NBA Finals debut. He passed Allen Iverson's 71 points for the all-time record. "But you know, Shai, you can mark down 34 points before they even get on the plane tomorrow, you know, for the next game. The guy's going to score," Carlisle said. "We've got to find ways to make it as tough as possible on him." The Pacers don't have the personnel to slow down Gilgeous-Alexander. Nobody does, really. The good news for Indiana is that it did its job with a road split to start the series. Game 1 will likely need to be replicated back home if the Pacers want to pull off the all-time upset. Gilgeous-Alexander will get his points, but if the rest of the Thunder struggle, it turns into a math advantage. The Pacers just have to hang around in the final moments. They can rely on Tyrese Haliburton's late-game heroics to escape with a thrilling win. Advertisement Meanwhile, OKC's game plan to regain homecourt advantage will need to be similar to Game 2. Just stomp them out on the scoreboard with avalanche runs. Continuously stiff-arm the Pacers on the scoreboard and keep them away with double-digit leads. NBA Star Makes Admission After Being In Lakers-Clippers Trade

NBA Star Makes Admission After Being In Lakers-Clippers Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers' decision to trade Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in February left a significant void in their frontcourt. Without a dominant presence in the paint, the Lakers adopted a center-less, perimeter-focused strategy. This approach, however, proved detrimental in the postseason, as first-round opponents, the Minnesota Timberwolves, exploited their lack of interior defense and rebounding. Advertisement In response, the Lakers are actively seeking to improve their roster with a reliable big man to play alongside the superstar duo of LeBron James and Luka Doncic. The front office is exploring various options to restore balance and physicality to the team's lineup, aiming to recapture the dominance that characterized their previous championship runs. Los Angeles Lakers GM Rob Pelinka© Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images Perhaps most frustrating for Lakers fans amid the team's center search, is that former LA big man Ivica Zubac has emerged into a legitimate star just miles up the road in Inglewood. Zubac recently shared insights into his early NBA experiences in a conversation with Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson. The Croatian center recounted his rookie season interactions with Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, admitting he still uses those early-career lessons in his game. Advertisement "I learned a lot from him," Zubac said. "I use that hook shot every game. I work on it every day. I'm trying to perfect it and have one of the best hooks in the league." Zubac's journey with the Lakers began when he was selected 32nd overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. During his tenure, he showcased potential as a traditional center, emphasizing fundamentals and post moves. However, in February 2019, the Lakers traded him to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for Mike Muscala—a move that drew criticism from fans and analysts alike. Since joining the Clippers, Zubac has evolved into a formidable presence in the paint. In the 2024-25 season, he averaged 16.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game, shooting an impressive 62.8% from the field and earning All-Defensive honors. Fans In Disbelief After LeBron James' Absence From NBA Announcement

Fans In Disbelief After LeBron James' Absence From NBA Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Oklahoma City Thunder went into Game 2 of the NBA Finals hoping to even the series against the Indiana Pacers after a heartbreaking loss on Thursday. Sunday's game ended up in a 123-107 blowout win in favor of the Thunder, with Game 3 set for Wednesday in Indiana. Advertisement The Thunder were led by MVP Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander, who followed up a 38-point performance in Game 1 with 34 points, bringing his Finals total to 72 points—an NBA record for the first two games of a Finals debut (via NBA PR). Gilgeous‑Alexander also crossed 3,000 combined points this season, becoming just the 12th player in NBA history to achieve this feat. Following the win, the NBA took to its official history account on X to announce the accompanying list included Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain, Luka Doncic, James Harden, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Bob McAdoo, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Rick Barry, and Elgin Baylor. However, fans were surprised to find out that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was absent from the list, despite appearing in 10 NBA Finals. Advertisement 'Mr. 50K points isn't on this list? Tough,' one fan wrote. 'LeBron has been to 13 Finals and can't do this?' another fan added. 'The fact that King James isn't on this list, like not even once is extremely wild considering he's the all‑time leading scorer,' a third fan mentioned. 'Nobody is going to care about that longevity talk soon,' a fan predicted. 'Where is LeGoat,' another fan remarked Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23).David Banks-Imagn Images It is worth noting that James narrowly missed making the list once—he totaled 2,999 combined points in the 2018 season, which supported the Cleveland Cavaliers' Finals run before they fell to the Golden State Warriors. Advertisement While James' absence comes as a major surprise, his exclusion from this specific milestone doesn't diminish his career legacy. With over 50,000 combined career points, he remains the NBA's all-time scoring leader and came within one point of this historic list.
