Vikings bring in Javon Hargrave to further bolster defensive front, bring back safety Harrison Smith

Washington Post13-03-2025

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings made another major move on interior redesign by agreeing to terms Wednesday with two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Javon Hargrave, and they shored up their secondary by bringing back safety Harrison Smith for a 14th season.
Hargrave was released by the San Francisco 49ers after playing in only three games for them in 2024 because of a torn triceps that required surgery. He'll get a two-year, $30 million contract with $19 million guaranteed, according to agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Bills Pro Bowler Appears on 'Today Show' Revealing Major Goals For 2025

Bills Pro Bowler Appears on 'Today Show' Revealing Major Goals For 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Few tackles in the league are as outspoken - or as good - as Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins. Advertisement The lovably eccentric offensive lineman has been busy this offseason. He was a key player in the league's creation of an Offensive Lineman of the Year award and has been on plenty of shows to discuss his team's upcoming expectations. The latest trip? A guest appearance on NBC's "Today Show.'' Dawkins went on the national TV show to talk about his time as an ambassador of the American Cornhole League. Along the way, he spoke about the Bills' goals for the upcoming season. "In my mind, any time we're on the field, we have a chance. As long as we've got 17," Dawkins said, noting QB Josh Allen's jersey number. "As long as we've got the running backs and receivers, the head coach, the Pegulas (ownership), I got us." Advertisement Buffalo has been to the conference title game twice since Dawkins and Allen were drafted. Both the tackle and quarterback have been connected as some of the best players in the league. Allen is coming off a league MVP award. Dawkins, meanwhile, is a Pro Bowler in his own right. The only thing the two are missing is a championship. If the Bills can overcome their conference title woes, their entire offense will become legendary. Dawkins and Allen may already be there, but their impact across the league could put them on a path to the Hall of Fame. ... and more TV appearances to go with that. Buccaneers' Mike Evans Projected To Make History In 2025

Buccaneers' Mike Evans Projected To Make History In 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans has been the epitome of consistency since his NFL career began in 2014. Advertisement Evans has posted 11 straight seasons of 1,000+ yards, tying the record with Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, as Evans managed the feat last season in the last game with under two minutes left. He is hoping that the 2025 season won't be as hectic as he looks to move to outright first with 12 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to break the record. And ESPN's Mike Clay, in his 2025 projection, has Evans doing only just. Mike Evans 2025 projection: 80 receptions, 1029 yards, nine touchdowns. Kim Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images So, Evans breaks the record and does so with his most receptions since 2018, and the nine touchdowns are nothing to sneeze at either. Advertisement Despite the addition of Emeka Egbuka and a healthy Chris Godwin, Evans still leads the Buccaneers in yards, receptions, and touchdowns, which has been the norm throughout his stellar career. The Buccaneers are seen as an NFL dark horse, with some thinking that an NFC Championship appearance might be in their future in 2025. If that does come to fruition, we imagine that Evans will have played to his Pro Bowl level. Evans and his streak have been one of the most closely watched statistical phenomena over the past couple of seasons, with many just waiting for the one season the six-time Pro Bowler doesn't reach that mark. However, if you are waiting for him to fail, based on Clay's projections, it won't be in 2025. Buccaneers' Jason Licht Reveals 'No Fight' Over Baker Mayfield Decision

Buccaneers' Jason Licht Reveals 'No Fight' Over Baker Mayfield Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The two seasons that Baker Mayfield has been the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback have been some of the best football he's played in his career. Advertisement Back-to-back Pro Bowl nods, two division titles, a playoff win, and a career-best season in 2024 (4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns) paint the picture of a player who, after seven years, has finally found a place to call home. Granted, there were skeptics of the move given Baker was on the scrap heap when he signed in 2023, but the decision has since proven to be the right one. And General Manager Jason Licht, in an interview with Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, revealed that when the opportunity to sign Baker arose, there was no conflict between him and head coach Todd Bowles. "Well, yeah, luckily Todd [Bowles] wanted him," Licht said. "We didn't have any kind of fight over that because he was the one that we wanted as well. And, you know, we knew what his ceiling was. And that's pretty damn good quarterback.' Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) walks off the Heitman-Imagn Images Mayfield has been "pretty darn good" for the Buccaneers, and so much so that in 2025, many are envisioning a deep playoff run for Tampa Bay. Advertisement Not since Tom Brady was the quarterback have expectations been this high, and Baker has the talent around him to ensure that, at the very least, the playoffs are achieved. Now, we know that success in the NFL isn't linear, and there will be ups and downs, but there have been far more ups with Mayfield than downs. However, it must evolve into something tangible. And if something substantial is achieved, Licht and Bowles will likely feel vindicated in their decision to sign Mayfield back in 2023.
