An 11-year-old boy has been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged attack on a schoolboy as he walked home on Wednesday evening. The child is the third person to be detained in connection with the incident.
Officers from Gwent Police launched an urgent investigation into the incident underneath a footbridge on Spytty Road, in Lliswerry after a video circulated across social media platforms. On Thursday morning a 30-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy, both from Cwmbran, were arrested. The man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, while the boy was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The alleged victim is a pupil at Lliswerry High School, and Newport Council and Gwent Police say they are continuing to support him, alongside staff at the school, as the criminal investigation continues.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "Officers have made a third arrest in connection with an investigation into the assault of a schoolboy in Lliswerry.

"Yesterday (Wednesday 14 May), Gwent Police was made aware of a video circulating online of an assault on a footbridge over Spytty Road, Newport.
"We identified the boy in the video and continue to support him as we investigate.
"Last night, our enquiries led to the arrest of 30 year-old man and 13-year-old boy from Cwmbran.
"This evening, we have also arrested an 11 year-old boy from Newport on suspicion of common assault and affray.
Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend said: "The vast majority of the public have been extremely supportive and have provided timely and helpful information to help our investigation to this point.
"We now believe we have identified the majority of those we suspect to have played a part in this incident, and are working at pace to bring these people in for questioning.

"Nevertheless, everyone needs to consider the tone and language they use when posting on social media.
"We would encourage people not to speculate or identify anyone online thought to be involved as this is a live investigation, and such comments can have an impact on our ability to bring anyone found to have committed a criminal offence to justice."

Police however have not shared an official statement on what could have been found. Police initially had a warrant until Friday, June 6, to investigate areas of interest in southern Portugal. Earlier today, investigators indicated that they were expected to end their search on Thursday if nothing was found. The operation kicked off on Tuesday, June 3, with teams scouring through more than 20 plots of land east of Praia da Luz. This included spots between the Ocean Club holiday resort where Madeleine vanished and the cottage where German authorities' prime suspect Christian Breuckner lived. Search teams discovered animal bones and pieces of adult clothing at these sites, according to Portuguese TV reports. The huge operation saw more than 60 officers involved in the latest search. Police were pictured using a JCB digger and cutting-edge ground-penetrating radar scanners. One of the places searched was a cottage once lived in by prime suspect Brueckner. The fresh search was reportedly prompted by new information about their suspect. Convicted paedophile Brueckner is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany. He was caged over the 2005 rape of an elderly woman at her Praia da Luz home but he has denied any involvement in the disappearance of Madeleine.

They say he had the "biggest of hearts" and "always managed to light up a room." Ethan was found on the A465 between Rhymney and Dowlais next to an overturned quadbike in the early hours of Saturday, May 31. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers have arrested five people as part of their investigation into the crash, one of whom has been arrested on suspicion of murder. In a tribute to Ethan, his family said he had the "kindest of souls" and was the "funniest of characters". Officers from Gwent Police previously arrested two people from Merthyr in connection with the crash. A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and driving whilst unfit through drink and driving whilst unfit through drugs and a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. They have been released on conditional bail while police enquiries continue. A further three arrests have now been made, police confirmed. A Tredegar man, 43, and a Pontypridd man, 34, were both arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender and are currently in police custody. A 41-year-old man from Merthyr was also arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and assisting an offender. He was released on conditional bail as enquiries continue for this investigation, but he was recalled to prison in connection with an unrelated enquiry. Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with relevant information to come forward. Officers found a burnt-out BMW in the Dowlais area during the investigation, which they still believe may have been involved in the collision.
