Social media reacts to Clemson pitchers combining for a no-hitter in the win over Pitt
No. 13 Clemson made history on Friday night, as Aidan Knaak, Joe Allen, and Lucas Mahlstedt combined to throw the program's first no-hitter since 2009 in a 6-1 win over Pitt at Charles L. Cost Field.
It marked Clemson's 15th no-hitter all-time and its first in an ACC game since 1976. Knaak was in command from the start, tying career highs with 12 strikeouts and 7.1 innings pitched. The sophomore didn't allow a hit, issued three walks, and hit one batter on 112 pitches to improve to 8-1.
'It's as sharp as we've seen him all year,' head coach Erik Bakich said. 'He attacked the zone and trusted his stuff all night.'
Allen entered in the eighth and got four straight outs, but two ninth-inning walks brought in Mahlstedt, who got the final out on one pitch to complete the no-hitter.
Offensively, Clemson tallied 13 hits but continued to miss chances, going just 4-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Jacob Jarrell led the way with a 4-for-5 night that included his 12th home run. Cam Cannarella extended his hitting streak to 13 games and reached base for the 35th straight contest. Jarren Purify added his fifth homer of the year and swiped his 24th base. Andrew Ciufo, Jack Crighton, and Collin Priest all had two-hit games.
Clemson (39-15, 16-12 ACC) and Pitt (27-24, 10-18) continue their series on Saturday at 3 p.m. on ACCNX.
Here's how social media reacted to Clemson's no-hitter.

Clemson Offers 2026 WR Devin Fitzgerald, Son of NFL Legend Larry Fitzgerald

Clemson Offers 2026 WR Devin Fitzgerald, Son of NFL Legend Larry Fitzgerald originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Clemson made a splash on the recruiting trail this weekend by offering 2026 wide receiver Devin Fitzgerald, the son of NFL icon Larry Fitzgerald. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound standout from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix, Arizona, announced the news on Saturday morning following a visit to Clemson's campus. Advertisement 'Excited to announce that I've been offered by Clemson University! Huge thanks to Coach Swinney for the great conversation and belief in me,' Fitzgerald posted on social media, signaling a key step forward in his recruitment. Fitzgerald's pedigree is no small part of the intrigue. His father, Larry Fitzgerald, was one of the most consistent and productive receivers in NFL history, playing 17 seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and earning numerous accolades, including a Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2025. The elder Fitzgerald also starred at Pitt, where he finished as a Heisman runner-up—making Devin's recruitment a full-circle moment for college football fans. He led his high school team as a junior with 52 receptions for 720 yards and nine touchdowns. His offer list already includes Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Stanford, and Florida State. Advertisement Clemson currently holds three wide receiver commits in the 2026 class but may be seeking a fourth. Fitzgerald was the only wideout on campus during this official visit weekend, highlighting how seriously the Tigers are prioritizing him. With official visits still scheduled to Stanford, Notre Dame, UNC, and Arizona State—and a commitment announcement slated for July 5—the Tigers have positioned themselves well at the right time. Devin's recruitment is becoming one of the more fascinating storylines in the 2026 class—not only for his bloodline but for his growing résumé and the national interest he's generating on his own terms. Eagles Add Former Clemson Standout Who Grew Up Bleeding Midnight Green

Eagles Add Former Clemson Standout Who Grew Up Bleeding Midnight Green originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Marcus Tate wasn't selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. But on Monday, he got the call that mattered most—from the team he's been rooting for since he was a kid. Advertisement The Philadelphia Eagles announced they've officially signed Tate as an undrafted free agent, bringing the former Clemson standout full circle in a storybook moment. Tate, who grew up in Sunrise, Florida, posted a heartfelt photo on social media shortly after inking the deal—a childhood picture of himself holding up an Eagles jersey. The caption read: 'Nawwww if y'all know me, this really means some, been rocking with the birds since day one I don't play bout them.' Tate (6-5, 321 pounds) was a tryout player at Philadelphia's rookie minicamp earlier this spring. After showing enough promise despite his injury history, the Eagles rewarded him with a contract, making him the second tryout player to earn a spot this offseason, joining wide receiver Giles Jackson from Washington. Advertisement A four-year contributor at Clemson, Tate played in 42 games with 37 starts and logged 2,502 offensive snaps—primarily at left guard, with occasional reps at tackle. He was named a second-team All-ACC selection in 2024 and became just the third true freshman offensive lineman in Clemson history to start a season opener, which came against Georgia in 2021. Tate underwent reconstructive surgery on his MCL and MPFL after the 2024 season, opting to play through the pain for his teammates during Clemson's run to the College Football Playoff. 'I wanted to finish the season,' Tate told TigerNet. 'I gave us the best chance to be successful, and I wanted to do whatever I could to be on the field with my guys… We had a great year.' Advertisement NFL evaluators like Dane Brugler and Lance Zierlein still saw enough talent in Tate to project him as a late-round pick, but his inability to participate in pre-draft workouts left his evaluation incomplete. Now healthy, Tate will compete with a young group of offensive linemen in Philadelphia that includes fellow rookies Drew Kendall, Myles Hinton, Cameron Williams, and Hollin Pierce. But for Tate, this signing is more than a chance to prove himself—it's a lifelong dream realized. From holding an Eagles jersey as a kid to suiting up at the NovaCare Complex, Marcus Tate's story just added its most meaningful chapter yet. Clemson makes another huge recruiting splash landing 4-star OL Leo Delaney

Clemson makes another huge recruiting splash landing 4-star OL Leo Delaney Clemson continues to build one of the nation's top offensive line classes for 2026, this time landing a major commitment from four-star lineman Leo Delaney. According to multiple sources, Delaney has pledged to the Tigers over offers from Michigan and Penn State. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound standout from Providence Day School in Charlotte had originally planned to commit on July 11 but decided to announce early after his recent official visit to Clemson. Delaney's commitment marks the fifth offensive lineman to join the Tigers in this cycle, following fellow four-stars Braden Wilmes, Adam Guthrie, Grant Wise, and Chance Barclay. Clemson's revamped approach to recruiting in the trenches has paid off in a big way, and much of that credit goes to offensive line coach Matt Luke. Since his arrival, Luke has proven to be one of the most impactful hires Clemson could have made, quickly turning the offensive line into a true recruiting strength. Delaney is ranked No. 62 nationally, the No. 5 interior lineman, and the No. 5 player in North Carolina by 247Sports. With 16 total commits, Clemson's 2026 class now ranks among the top five in the nation — and their momentum up front continues to build.
