The once-bustling transport hub Nicosia International Airport, Cyprus, now stands as a haunting relic - completely frozen in time.

Harrowing images show the abandoned terminal, decaying runways, and even aircraft that have been left untouched for decades.
Originally built in the 1920s as an RAF base, Nicosia International Airport played a crucial role in World War II, serving as a key stopover for military and civilian flights.
And by the 1950s and 1960s, it had become a major gateway for tourists, even attracting Hollywood celebrities like Elizabeth Taylor.
But in 1974, conflict between Greek and Turkish forces led to its destruction and, later, abandonment.
The airport was officially closed to commercial flights following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, leaving it to rot from there on.
In 1977, the last commercial airline flights left Nicosia Airport under UN Special Authorisation, when British Airways engineers retrieved three stranded Cyprus Airways aircraft and flew them to London.
Now the airport lies within a United Nations Protected Area and remains largely off-limits to the public.
But this hasn't stopped urban explorers from visiting the site with its decayed grandeur and historical significance.
Ben, 31, who posts adventure content online, went to the airport alone to show its haunting remains.
He said: 'I wanted to explore this for about three years.

'I decided to go and see it because, obviously, it's a very interesting historical site.
'I'd seen pictures of it, and I wanted to see it in person.'
Ben described the site as a chilling time capsule, largely untouched since the 1970s.
He added: 'The most amazing thing about it was it's obviously been untouched since 1974.
"I've never explored an abandoned airport before, and the fact that it still had planes there was crazy.
'It was like a real-life time capsule. Hardly anybody ever gets to see it, and that's just amazing.'
The haunting images serve as a stark reminder of Cyprus's divided history, with the airport standing as a ghostly monument to a conflict that reshaped the island.
Despite its eerie silence, Nicosia International Airport remains a powerful symbol of the past.

With its panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and white-washed good looks, Myconian Kyma is as glamorous as it is luxurious. Factor in its king-of-the-hill spot being a short stroll from the vibrant centre of Mykonos and a buggy ride away from enjoying the top-notch facilities at its sibling hotels, Korali and Naia, and you're checked in for an exceptional retreat. Room and facilities While on the outside Kyma is true to its Cycladic roots – all white-washed walls and cubist architecture – inside the vibe is decidedly contemporary: think modern art, fine fabrics and designer lighting. Some even boast private terraces with pools or hot tubs overlooking those dazzling views of the Aegean Sea. I had the pleasure of staying in one of the Nissos suites. The bright white interiors created a serene atmosphere, while he rattan details and tropical wallpaper added an exotic and sophisticated touch. As for the king-size bed, flat-screen TV, Nespresso machine and well-stocked mini bar – they were, all as you can imagine, used and thoroughly enjoyed. While the marble bathroom was not only suitably sleek and flowing with high-end toiletries and plush towels, the real highlight was the view from the balcony. Watching the sun set over the sea while sipping on my complimentary bottle of fizz was pure heaven. Food and drink Noa, Kyma's sole eatery, can't fail to delight. Located in the main area, guests can choose to either dine inside, or opt for a more relaxed vibe at one of the tables around the pool and DJ booth. Breakfast is a well-organised buffet featuring a wide array of options, including cooked eggs, breakfast meats, yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit and a good selection of pastries and bread. The staff are attentive from the moment you sit down, offering fresh juice and hot drinks right away. In the evening, Noa transforms into an ambient dining spot with the same impeccable service. Memorable starters include the sea bass ceviche, prepared with tomato, lime and quinoa, and the trio of Greek dips served with warm pita. For mains, I highly recommend the fish of the day. I had the sea bass (again), which was freshly filleted in front of us – the manager did an excellent job, as not a single bone was found. Accompanied by vegetables and potatoes, it was incredibly fresh and delicious. Be sure to come with an appetite, as the portions are generous. Hotel highlights Surrounded by sunbeds and shaded cabanas, the pool deck is the heart of the hotel. It has an outdoor lounge and bar with a DJ booth, and the music hits just the right ambient note without being too imposing. The Satory Thalasso spa is a must-visit – and not just for its five heated pools, but for its treatments, which are designed to re-energise you. I indulged in the CBD Relaxing Massage, a 55-minute session focusing on easing pain and inflammation while also aiding digestion, mood and sleep. It was pure bliss, and I slept like a baby that night. Additionally, Kyma offers a concierge service that can arrange a variety of excursions, including beach tours, horse riding, yachting and much more. Whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, they have you covered. What to do nearby While the hotel is the perfect hangout for a quiet and relaxing retreat, it is also just a short ten-minute stroll from the island's thriving nightlife, making it ideal for those seeking a bit more action. Mykonos is often celebrated as the Greek party island, but there is so much more to it than that. The island is brimming with quaint boutiques, iconic whitewashed buildings, delicious foodie destinations and vibrant beach clubs. With its medieval fishing houses with colourful balconies that seemingly dangle over the water's edge, Little Venice is a must-visit. Not to mention the breathtaking sunset views. But it's a popular area, so be early or book ahead to secure a sea-facing spot at one of the many cocktail bars.

With suites costing £1,350 a night and everything you could need within its grounds, it's no wonder Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright chose a reclusive hotel hidden away in the Spanish countryside for their first holiday with baby daughter Palma. The new parents, who welcomed baby Palma in March, are staying at the five-star Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort Hotel in Andalusia. First opened in 1962, today Sotogrande is considered to be one of the most luxurious hotels in Europe. Each room at the resort has a modern, contemporary design featuring art by local artists and boasts its own private balcony or terrace. Michelle and Mark are likely to be enjoying the SO/Suite, which is an impressive 1,001 sqft room, with separate living and sleeping areas. With its king size bed and a sofa bed, a ultra-relaxing rain shower, the room looks out at the stunning Resort Gardens while daylight also floods the room with floor-to-ceiling windows. A stay in the suite will cost approximately £1,350 a night, while twin rooms at the resort are £300. Sotogrande's spa hosts an addictive view of the Mediterranean Sea and features a Hammam, sauna and indoor pool. In the city of Larnaca on the southeast coast of Cyprus, Peter has a villa with five bedrooms, a swimming pool and tennis court. Talking to Sun Travel about his holiday home in Larnaca, Peter said: "The house is so beautiful and private. Obviously the smells, the foods, it reminds me of my childhood and my parents. "I bought the land 20 odd years ago and I said 'dad, here's the money to build it' and my dad spent three years building the most beautiful house. "It's very sentimental to us and the other thing is there are some amazing beaches with bright white sand." As for where to go, Peter added: "I like to go to quiet places. I don't really like to go where it's crazily busy. "The food there is amazing and we love the restaurants. For anyone going to Larnaca, I have three recommendations. One is a new restaurants called Theta in Perivolia which is very near the airport. It does Mediterranean food, but done in the style of a Dubai 5-star restaurant. "We go there and we're like 'why doesn't anyone know about this place?'" Peter also loves to go to a Japanese restaurant called Nippon. All the free activities Cyprus has to offer 6 He also added: "There's another one called Opa Souvlaki Kiti, it's not fancy, but if you want a proper Greek kebab done the Cypriot way, go there." Peter stayed tight-lipped about the quiet beaches he and his family head to on holiday. But some of the most popular across the island according to Tripadvisor are Nissi Beach, Fig Tree Bay Beach, Coral Bay and Makronissos Beach. For anyone who fancies a trip over to Cyprus, you can even book a stay in Peter's Villa Amelia which is a short drive from Larnaca Airport. Inside is five bedrooms, each one sleeping two people. The rooms have queen beds or single beds, and their own en suites. The shared spaces include huge living area with two sets of sofas, as well as a separate dining and kitchen area. Outside, there's lots of places to relax by the pool or battle it out in a game of tennis. 6 It's a great time to go to Larnaca too as TravelSupermarket revealed earlier this year that the city is cheaper this year compared to 2024. Larnaca, a city on the southeast coast of Cyprus, has emerged as the holiday destination with the biggest price drop. According to TravelSupermarket, the holiday comparison website, prices of a holiday to Larnaca have fallen by £495 per person. The average price in 2024 was £1,292.04 and in 2025 is £797.97 - a 38 per cent decrease. Flights from the UK take just over four hours and you can book flights with Ryanair from £34.99. There's another place a little further afield that Peter described as 'a kids' paradise' - as he discovers the world's most child-friendly holiday destination.
