What is cut line at the 2025 US Open? Live tracker, who could miss projected cut

They weren't kidding about Oakmont Country Club. The venue that has hosted more U.S. Open tournaments than any other showed its teeth again to kick off the 125th edition of this golf major.
J.J. Spaun was the early clubhouse leader after firing a 4-under 66, and there's a whole bunch of contenders within a few shots of the lead with Friday's second round underway. The course is part of the story as well. The thick rough and tricky greens proved to be treacherous and humbled some of the world's best golfers.

The dynamic sets up a fascinating chase to make the cut at the 2025 U.S. Open. Plenty of big names, led by Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, struggled at various points over the opening 18 holes and have ground to make up in order to qualify for the weekend. The 156-golfer field will be cut down to the top 60 and ties before the third round begins, which is different than the top 70 and ties used as the cut line by the PGA Championship and British Open and top 50 and ties at The Masters.
USA TODAY Sports will be tracking the projected cut line with live updates throughout Friday's second round, as well as keeping tabs on the notable golfers who are in danger of missing the cut at the 2025 U.S. Open. Follow along here:

U.S. Open Saturday live updates, leaderboard: Will Scottie Scheffler rally?

Sam Burns bolted to the lead in the U.S. Open with a brilliant 5-under 65 on Friday. Can he hold it on moving day? Just three players remain under par heading into the weekend at Oakmont, which spent most of Friday chewing up and spitting out everyone but Burns, who sits at 3-under, one shot ahead of J.J. Spaun. Advertisement Lurking? Well, everyone, because as we've seen, things can turn quickly at Oakmont, where double bogey can be found anywhere. This includes World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who may be seven shots back, but is still very much in the hunt. Remember, Johnny Miller, way back in 1973, entered the final round six shots back and won. So there's always a chance at Oakmont, maybe even for Rory McIlroy, who snuck into the weekend and enters Round 3 nine back.
