Brendan Allen vs. Marvin Vettori rebooked for UFC 318 in New Orleans
This summer's UFC return to New Orleans has its second fight.
Brendan Allen is set to take on former middleweight title challenger Marvin Vettori at UFC 318 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) on July 19 at Smoothie King Center. MMA Junkie confirmed the matchup with a person with knowledge of the booking following an initial report from MMA Mania.
Allen and Vettori were scheduled to fight 13 months ago, but Vettori had to pull out of the fight. This time, they'll try to tee it up in "The Big Easy." The card is former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier's retirement event in front of his home-state fans in a BMF trilogy bout against ex-featherweight champ Max Holloway.
Allen (24-7 MMA, 12-4 UFC) is mired in the first slump of his career. He's working off back-to-back decision setbacks to Nassourdine Imavov and Anthony Hernandez, the latter of which came in February. Prior to that, he was on a seven-fight winning streak that included five rear-naked choke finishes and three post-fight bonuses.
Vettori (19-7-1 MMA, 9-6-1 UFC) is on a two-fight skid of his own. It's been nearly four years since he challenged then-champion Israel Adesanya for the 185-pound title at UFC 263, but dropped a decision. He was up and down after that with wins over Paulo Costa and Roman Dolidze, but losses to ex-champ Robert Whittaker and ex-title challenger Jared Cannonier.
After nearly two years away recovering from injury, Vettori returned in March and dropped a decision to Dolidze in a rematch, giving him the first skid of his pro career, as well.

UFC books Bellator notable Mandel Nallo vs. Cage Warriors champ Samuel Silva for DWCS

UFC books Bellator notable Mandel Nallo vs. Cage Warriors champ Samuel Silva for DWCS MMA worlds will collide as a former Bellator knockout artist and a current Cage Warriors champion will collide this summer with a UFC contract on the line. Tristar's Mandel Nallo and Cage Warriors lightweight champion Samuel Silva are set to square off Sept. 2 on Dana White's Contender Series at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Nallo (13-3) competed eight times for Bellator from 2017 to 2023. He compiled a 4-3 record with one no contest, as the promotion struggled to find him fights. That problem continued when Nallo hit free agency in early 2023. Since then, he's 4-0 in MMA with an additional win in bareknuckle MMA. All five of those fights he finished inside the distance. Silva (13-4-1) empathically turned heads in March when he upset Cage Warriors champion George Hardwick in an epic five-round battle. Silva won the bout via unanimous decision to extend his winning streak to five. The current DWCS lineup for Sept. 2 includes:

Ex-Jets GM thinks Aaron Rodgers, Steelers will be ‘irrelevant by Thanksgiving'

Just about everyone seems to have a hot take on Aaron Rodgers signing with the Steelers – and Mike Tannenbaum is no exception. The former Jets general manager didn't hold back when discussing Rodgers' outlook in Pittsburgh on ESPN's 'Get Up' Wednesday morning. 'I think Aaron Rodgers is gonna be irrelevant by Thanksgiving,' said Tannenbaum, eliciting an incredulous response from host Mike Greenberg. Tannenbaum justified his claim by calling the Steelers a 'non-playoff team,' and by pointing to Rodgers' age (41) and the fact that he's a 'legend who's going off into the sunset.' 'Tell me why [the Steelers] are going to be relevant,' Tannenbaum continued. 'Because they're the third-best team in the division, they're going to have to find out about Will Howard, who they drafted from Ohio State, who I think is very intriguing.' 'I don't think they can win this division, and I think by the end of this season we're going to be talking about a massive transition.' 3 Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers during minicamp on Wednesday. Getty Images The Steelers signed Rodgers to a one-year, $13.6 million contract after the surefire Hall of Famer was cut by the Jets. Tannenbaum, who was GM of the Jets from 2006-12 and part of the Dolphins front office from 2015-18, said he doesn't believe the new-look Steelers have enough to compete with the high-powered offenses of the Ravens and Bengals in the AFC North. 'This feels personal, Mike,' joked co-panelist Louis Riddick. 'I'm just kidding, but this feels personal.' 3 Mike Tannenbaum said he thinks Aaron Rodgers will be 'irrelevant by Thanksgiving' on ESPN's 'Get Up' Wednesday. @awfulannouncing/X Rodgers has been participating in Pittsburgh's mandatory minicamp, going fourth in individual reps after Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Howard. And though Week 1 is still months away, Rodgers has remained plenty relevant for his off-field life. Most recently, the 10-time Pro-Bowler made headlines for wearing a wedding ring during Steelers minicamp on Tuesday – although he did not disclose who he had married. 3 Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers speaks to the media after the first day of minicamp on Tuesday. Why the 2025 NBA Finals lack on-court logos, according to Adam Silver

Why the 2025 NBA Finals lack on-court logos, according to Adam Silver The lack of real on-court NBA Finals logo decals have been a huge discussion point during this championship series, and the league's head honcho has explained his take on the issue. NBA commissioner Adam Silver explained ahead of Wednesday night's Game 3 in Indianapolis that the on-court decals actually went away "a decade ago" for player slipping concerns. "We're back to adding them virtually," Silver said about the logos that fans have missed in this playoff series. Indeed, virtual NBA Finals logos popped up during Sunday's Game 2, but they didn't quite hit the same. Yes, the league and ESPN heard the gripes and at least did something, but the results were admittedly lackluster. Obviously, a player slipping, falling and getting injured during the NBA Finals on an on-court logo would be a nightmare scenario for the league. If these decals were seriously that problematic, it makes sense why they're gone. However, it's also 2025. Surely there's a safe way of celebrating the NBA Finals on the court without making it slippery for the players. We'll see what the league comes up with next year.
