Co-op band marks 150th jubilee of West Calder pioneers
West Calder Co-operative Society, one of the pioneers of the Co-op in Scotland, marks its 150th anniversary this year with a free concert by an award winning brass band.
The Co-operation Brass Band, founded in 1918 among Co-op employees in Glasgow, will play in West Calder High School on Friday 20 June to mark the jubilee.
The concert, which starts at 7pm, has been organised by West Calder and Harburn Community Development Trust which is leading the creation of The Scottish Co-operative Discovery Centre, a heritage site based in the village.
The concert has been sponsored by Muirhall Energy and tickets are free.

The award-winning Co-operation Band was founded in the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Societies factories in Shieldhall, Glasgow in 1918. It has gone on to win the Scottish Championships 37 times over the years. Recently they represented Scotland at the European Brass Band Championships held in Stavanger, Norway.
Work is well under way to refurbish and re-purpose the former Co-op Bakery in West Calder into a heritage centre which celebrates the pioneering development of the national Co-op movement in the village.
The West Calder Society was established in 1875 by a group of shale miners and went on to become one of the most successful regional co-ops in Scotland. It became part of the Scotmid group in 1982.
Gavin Henderson, Chairman of the Trust said 'We're very excited to have secured The Co-operation Band to play for the community this year. The band played at West Calder Co-ops 50th Jubilee celebrations in June 1925, and it feels very special that they'll be here to play again 100 years later'.

Olympic icon Ryan Lochte opened up on Wednesday after his wife of seven years announced that she has filed for divorce. Kayla Reid and the gold medalist swimmer, 40, have three children together, and on Instagram she said her decision came after 'deep prayer and reflection.' Lochte also shared a statement of his own. 'Thank you to our family and friends for your continued support - it truly means a lot as we begin this new chapter.' For her part, Kayla detailed the 'painful' decision to split from the olympian. She wrote: 'I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons of my life. 'I've been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing - not from fresh, open wounds. 'Sometimes we face trials we didn't choose or see coming. And in those moments, we're forced to make the hardest decisions to protect our peace, our children, and our future. 'I've come to the understanding that staying isn't always the most loving decision someone can make. For me, leaving was an act of love - for those around me and for myself.' The couple have son Caiden, 7, daughter Liv, 5 and nearly two-year-old daughter Georgia. According to court records cited by People, Kayla filed for divorce on March 26. Alongside the Instagram statement Kayla shared a boomerang video of herself gazing into the distance as she sat outside. She added: 'Living with transparency and authenticity has been how I have grown into the person I am today, and I'll continue to do so - while also protecting the parts of this journey that are private and unfolding in an unchartered territory.' Kayla, a former Playboy Playmate, concluded her statement by saying she was 'choosing to give herself grace,' while asking for support and prayers from her followers. Lochte and Kayla met in 2016 before becoming engaged in the fall of the same year. Lochte and Kayla married in 2018, with People reporting at the time that they wed in Palm Springs, California. The swimmer, who has not formally retired from competitive swimming despite not making the last Olympics, said in 2019 that the sport was his 'second priority' after his family. Lochte served a 14-month ban from the sport for his use of a prohibited IV infusion, and also spent six weeks in rehab for alcoholism. He decided to get help after an incident at a hotel in California where police were called after he tried to kick his door in, though no arrests were made. The swimmer's attorney said he had been battling alcohol addiction for 'many years,' and Lochte later said his stint in rehab made him a 'better man.' On the subject he said: 'I'm glad that I went to rehab and got checked out just because it helped me out. 'It helped put things in perspective in my life. What is really more important than going out to a bar and getting hammered or doing anything like that, I go home and I get to play with my kids and kiss and hold my wife. That, to me, is everything.' He was also thrust into controversy during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, after he claimed he and three teammates were robbed at gunpoint after a night out. He was charged with submitting a false report to police, but charges were later dismissed after he apologized. Last year, Lochte also revealed he was involved in a severe car accident which left him with serious injuries. He added that he had spent the last ten months recovering from a crash that occurred last November and broke his 'femur in half.' On the Athletes Only podcast he revealed that he crashed into a truck while on his way to pick up his children from school. The swimmer explained that a garbage truck had been parked in the middle of a busy four-lane street with no lights or cones to indicate that it had stopped. The car in front of Lochte managed to swerve the vehicle but the athlete wasn't successful in avoiding it and 'ran into the damn thing.'

For me, I just experienced betrayal,' she said of her relationship with Hammer. 'But in that process, I really learned so much about patterns and how parenting, really it comes down to parenting,' Chambers added. 'It comes down to humanity and psychology and all of those interesting things,' she said, while admitting she's not a fan of the term 'co-parenting.' 'I don't love that word co-parenting, right?
