Chennai land grab row: NGO seeks action; Rs 100 crore govt land encroached in Ramapuram
CHENNAI: Anti-graft NGO Arappor Iyakkam has appealed to the state govt to retrieve Rs 100 crore worth of revenue land from land grabbers, who, in the name of a temple committee, have been encroaching upon 2.6 acres of land in a prime locality in Ramapuram.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister
MK Stalin
, Chief Secretary N Muruganandham, and Land Administration Commissioner KS Palaniswamy, the NGO pointed out that the land comprised in survey No 71 was confirmed as govt revenue land by the Madras High Court in 2022. Of the total 5 acres of land, 2.4 acres have been allocated to the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) to set up a substation.
However, the so-called temple committee of the Kalasathamman temple, which itself is an encroachment located in a small portion of the govt land, has been slowly expanding the temple to bring the entire govt land under their control and has begun the construction of new structures.
To restrict people's movement to the land, the encroachers, including local politicians, have shrunk the 11-metre long road to 2.9 metres in the last few years, claims the organisation.

"Temporary thatched roof structures have mushroomed while iron barricades limit the flow of vehicles like fire engines and ambulances, and the residents who used the road for decades have been put under severe hardship," said Jayaram Venkatesan, convenor of the NGO.

The temple committee, despite losing the legal battle to claim ownership of the land, has been slowly encroaching upon the govt land due to the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities concerned, said the NGO, and added that the entire land will be lost if the govt does not act immediately.

According to government sources, Rajnath Singh did not sign the SCO document as India is not satisfied with the language of the joint document, as there was no mention of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, there was mention of the incidents that happened in Pakistan, so India refused to sign the joint declaration, and there is no joint communique either.

Madhya Pradesh CM's convoy comes to a grinding halt after cars are refuelled with ‘water-mixed' diesel
According to officials, when the drivers switched on the ignition after refuelling, a few vehicles stopped at the petrol station itself, while a few others stopped over the next 500 metres. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav was on his way to Ratlam for an event on Friday. The vehicles in the convoy—mostly Toyota Innovas—stopped at Shakti Fueling station located near Dosigaon village on the Indore-Mhow road about 10 kilometers short of the Ratlam collectorate. These cars were carrying the chief minister's staff. Bhopal: There was major embarrassment for Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, when on Thursday night, 19 cars in his convoy suddenly came to a halt—because they had been re-fuelled with allegedly adulterated diesel. Private vehicles were quickly arranged for the officials who were in the cars that had broken down, while officials from the Food and Civil Supplies department were rushed to the spot to investigate the incident. A press note issued by the district administration stated, 'Due to the heavy rain in the district, water seeped into the diesel tank of the petrol pump. Subsequently the diesel filled in the vehicles had water in it, which led to the vehicles coming to an abrupt halt.' Officials inspected the density of the fuel at the pump. About 5,995 liters of petrol and 10,675 liters of diesel have been sealed. Authorities from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) which has a depot at Ratlam rushed to the spot and took three samples of diesel from the petrol pump. The petrol pump has been sealed for now, reports of tests on the samples are still awaited. A case has also been registered under section 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 against the owner of the petrol pump who has been identified as Shanti Bundela and her husband Hemraj Bundela. Both are residents of Indore. (Edited by Viny Mishra) Also read: With amassed assets worth Rs 500-700 cr, how 'corrupt' ex-RTO constable has sparked political row in MP

Kolkata gangrape: In controversial remark, TMC's Kalyan Banerjee says 'What can be done if ... '
TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee NEW DELHI: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kalyan Banerjee on Friday sparked controversy with his remark on the Kolkata law college rape case, saying, 'What can be done if a friend rapes his friend?" Banerjee, who is also the MP from Serampore Lok Sabha constituency, further asked: "Will the police be there in schools? This was done by students to another student. Who will protect her (victim)?" The TMC leader, however, said that the accused should be arrested. "I am not an advocate into the incident that occurred at the Law College but the accused should be arrested. A few men commit this type of what can be done if a friend rapes his friend. Will the police be there in schools? This was done by students to another student. Who will protect her (victim)? This (South Calcutta Law College) is a government college. Will the police always be there?" Kalyan Banerjee told news agency ANI. In the incident at Kolkata law college, which is the eerily reminiscent of the gut-wrenching RG Kar case, a student was allegedly raped on the night of June 25 within the premises, leading to the arrest of three men, two students and a staff member who is also an alumnus of the institution. Police identified the accused as Manojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay alias Pramit Mukherjee (20). Kolkata Police on Thursday identified Manojit Mishra as a former president of the institution's Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad unit and the organisational secretary of the south Kolkata wing of the TMC's student body. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cuối cùng, chơi miễn phí game chiến thuật hay nhất 2025! College authorities confirmed that Mishra had been working at the institute as a temporary non-teaching staff member on a 45-day renewable contractual basis. He is also a practising criminal lawyer at the Alipore Police and Sessions Court. The vice principal of the college, Dr Nayna Chatterji, said Mishra's appointment was made 'on the basis of a resolution passed by the governing body (GB) of the institute.' According to Kolkata Police, the alleged assault took place on June 25 inside a guard's room located on the ground floor of the college, adjacent to the students' union office. "Initial investigations revealed that the victim had reached the college in the afternoon to fill up certain academic forms after she was called by some people," officials told news agency PTI.
