Inside the enchanted theme park that's 'cheaper' and 'quieter' than Disneyland
A trip to a theme park can come with buckets of fun, but also a side-portion of frazzle - thanks to long queues for rides and food, and huge crowds in high season.
However, there's one European theme park that's so serene your heart rate might be slower when you leave then when you arrive - with one visitor describing it as 'like a stroll through a beautiful park that just happens to have a rollercoaster in the middle.'
Even better, it's a bargain compared to some of Europe's biggest theme parks at just £32 a day, with children under four going free.
Efteling in Kaatsheuvel, just north of the Dutch city of Tilburg, is a fairytale-themed park that boasts an emerald lake, miniature village, monorail and steam train - as well as a host of rides thrill seekers will love.
Those who've visited have said the queues are significantly lower than at other theme parks such as Disneyland Paris and Thorpe Park - where frustrated riders can spend around 90 minutes queueing for the most popular attractions on busy days.
Since opening in 1952, the has attracted well over 100 million visitors, with its attractions reflecting elements from ancient myths and fairy tales, legends, fables, and folklore.
Ride highlights include wooden rollercoaster 'Joris en de Draak' meaning 'George and the Dragon' to a magical forest and a creepy 'cursed villa,' with every ride based on a story.
The ride that gets the biggest screams? A 60mph dive coaster known as Baron 1898.
In the oldest area, the Marerijk, the forest frames a trail of classic tales such as Rapunzel, Pinocchio and Rumpelstiltskin reconstructed from the nostalgic drawings of illustrator Anton Pieck.
While it's the largest theme park in the Netherlands, it's still relatively unknown with theme park fans in the UK - but those who've visited have been hugely impressed.
In 2023, TikToker The Travel Mum (@thetravelmum) shared a post heaping praise on Efteling, saying queue times were 10 minutes in many cases.
She told viewers: 'We have been told this theme park is better and cheaper than Disneyland, let's go and check it out.
'Efteling is a theme park in the Netherlands and with no queue to get in, tickets starting at just £34, and these cool little trolleys that you can pull bigger kids around in, I'm already impressed.
'As you walk around, there's all the magic and attention to detail that you get from a Disney park.'
She added: 'This park is huge, there's a great app you can download and as you can see, the majority of queue times are less than 10 minutes.'
Meanwhile, in the UK, one of Britain's busiest parks announced a new attraction this week.
Chessington World of Adventures revealed it will be home to the first and only Paw Patrol-themed land.
The new multi-million pound land will be Chessington's largest attraction for pre-schoolers.
Set across 1.4 acres, it will feature four thrilling rides - including an entry-level 'My first rollercoaster' - as well as play areas, and interactive character 'meet and greet' events.

Guests will also enjoy a dedicated food and beverage outlet and picnic space, plus a customised retail store.
The Paw Patrol land will open in spring 2026, but kids don't need to wait until then to meet their favourite pups.
Chase, Skye and Rubble will be at Chessington from this May, helping to oversee the construction of the new land.
Starting on the 24th May, the little ones can interact with their favourite characters at the Paw Patrol Meet and Greet experience.
And, in the summer, Chessington's Safari Hotel will open five Paw Patrol-themed rooms – the first and only PAW Patrol accommodation in the UK.

John Terry 'proud' of full kit w***** label after Chelsea Champions League win
EXCLUSIVE: John Terry wore his full kit to watch Chelsea win the Champions League in 2012 - and holds no regrets despite his reputation following that success John Terry insists he is 'very proud' of his 'full kit' celebration - and revealed he was under orders from UEFA. Terry has always struggled to live down the whole episode after the 2012 Champions League final when he was suspended but still ran onto the pitch to lift the trophy while wearing his shirt, shorts, socks, boots and even his shin pads. Former England captain Terry suffered Champions League heartbreak when he missed in the penalty shoot-out in 2008 but was determined not to miss the party four years later despite him and Branislav Ivanovic being banner for the final. Terry laughed: 'What are you going on about?! It doesn't bother me at all. I will gladly take the stick if we win the trophies. 'Listen, first of all, it came from UEFA, they wanted all the players to dress the same, wear the shirt and I probably overeager it a bit because I had the boots, the shorts and the shinpads. 'They didn't say to everyone: 'put the boots and shin pads on!' So, yeah, I've gone a bit far but I'm very proud of it, I really am. 'It's part of it. The memes and stuff came out, but being the Englishman that I am, the Chelsea captain and so proud to lead the club, I was ready to take the brunt of it. 'But I wasn't the only one. Ivanovic was suspended and he was swinging on the crossbar at full time. No-one mentions that he had the full kit on, the scarf wrapped round and all of that.' Terry regards the 2005 title as the best trophy he played in but still looks back on the 2012 European success as a remarkable achievement despite missing the final after being sent off in the semi final. He added: 'In terms of one I didn't play in but still goes down as the best for me is the Champions League in 2012. And I say that because I'm proper Chelsea, everyone knows that. 'Seeing the heartache of 09/10, 08 against Man United and even 04/05 in the Champions League, we deserved to win that trophy. We'd been so close. 'We'd probably been better equipped previously to win it than the actual year we did it. It wasn't our strongest team, we were an ageing team in 2012. 'We had a few players suspended, myself included, but we went and won the trophy. We needed a bit of luck along the way which we had. I think it's an amazing trophy and one I'm so proud of that we won.' John Terry was speaking about Chelsea and the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. ‘Who did it better me or Trent?' – Scotland star asks fans to rate his Spanish as he upstages new Real Madrid superstar
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A FORMER Scotland star aimed a cheeky comment in response to Trent Alexander-Arnold after he surprised fans by speaking Spanish in his first Real Madrid press conference. The former Liverpool right-back addressed supporters fluently in their native tongue during his official unveiling in Madrid yesterday. Alexander-Arnold only decided his next move in March, but the revelation left many Liverpool fans wondering if he's been eyeing a switch to Spain for some time. Others were just impressed by his knowledge of the language without even living there. Ex-Scotland striker Oli McBurnie, however, couldn't help but share his own talents after being made aware of the right-back's first media address in Spain. He shared a video highlighting his own Spanish skills on social media, asking fans if he's mastered the language better than Alexander Arnold. McBurnie moved to the country last summer when he joined Las Palmas on a free transfer and has been fluent in Spanish for some time. A clip of him answering interview questions in Spanish resurfaced after the new Real Madrid signing's surprise press conference. He shared the impressive video with the caption: "Who did it better me or Trent?" His followers were certainly impressed as many replied saying he did in fact have the edge over the former Liverpool man - despite them not being able to actually understand what's been said. Others, however, poked fun at the striker's accent in the video. 'This is so impressive' - Fans amazed as Oli McBurnie speaks in flawless Spanish just months after joining LaLiga One fan joked: "The fact that you did it after having inhaled helium makes yours more impressive." That comment was met with a number of laughing emojis from McBurnie himself. While another added: "Nailed the accent." McBurnie only netted three goals in La Liga last season, but he did register an assist in his first game against Real Madrid last August as Las Palmas held the giants to a 1-1 draw. But the former Sheffield United hitman won't have the chance to go head-to-head with Alexander-Arnold in the league next season after his team suffered relegation, finishing 19th in La Liga.
