Telangana releases Rs 20 crore for Bonalu festivities
HYDERABAD: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced on Wednesday that the state government has released Rs 20 crore in cheques to 2,783 Mahankali temples in Hyderabad for the upcoming Bonalu festival.
The Ashada Bonalu festivities will begin on June 26 at Jagadamba Mahankali temple in Golconda. Celebrations will be held in Secunderabad on July 13–14, in Hyderabad, including the Old City, on July 20–21 and at Bhagyalakshmi temple, Charminar, on July 23. The Balkampet Yellamma Kalyanotsavam will take place on July 1, followed by the Rathotsavam on July 2.
The district in-charge minister thanked Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for releasing the funds, noting that the century-old Bonalu festival reflects the deep cultural and spiritual fabric of the twin cities.
Traffic advisory issued
In view of the Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Golconda Bonalu celebrations, a large number of devotees are expected from across Hyderabad and nearby districts on the following dates, between 8 am and 11 pm on June 26 and 29, July 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, and 24.
Heavy traffic is expected on routes leading to Golconda Fort, including Ramdevguda to Golconda Fort via Makkai Darwaza, Langar Houz to Golconda Fort via Fateh Darwaza and Shaikpet Nala and Seven Tombs to Golconda Fort via Banjara Darwaza. AP aims Rs. 25,000 cr private investment in tourism sector
The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) managing Director and Vice-Chairperson Amrapali Kata announced that the state government aims to transform Andhra Pradesh into a global tourism hub, focusing on religious, spiritual, coastal, ecological, and wellness experiences while empowering local communities and promoting sustainable development. Speaking at the two-day Andhra Pradesh Tourism Conclave Tech AI 2.0, which began on Thursday at a city hotel, Kata addressed investors from across India who discussed investment prospects and tourism development strategies for the state. She outlined the AP Tourism Mission to attract Rs 25,000 crore in private investments by 2029. Kata highlighted Andhra Pradesh's tourism achievements, noting its 4th rank in domestic tourist arrivals with a 32 per cent increase from 2022 to 2023, 2nd rank in backwater resources, and 3rd longest coastline in India. The state also boasts 13 wildlife sanctuaries, three national parks, and one of India's largest tiger reserves. Quoting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, she said, 'All isms — Capitalism, Communism, Socialism — will become insignificant; the only relevant 'ism' is tourism.' APTDC chairman N Balaji emphasised the state's new tourism policy, describing it as innovative and progressive, aimed at developing world-class tourism by leveraging Andhra Pradesh's rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. He highlighted plans to promote ecological, adventure, and spiritual tourism while adopting eco-friendly practices, including avoiding single-use plastics at tourist destinations. Balaji stressed the adoption of best practices, fast-tracked permissions, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence and digital services to enhance Andhra Pradesh's tourism branding. He underscored the importance of private sector partnerships and MoUs with national and international organizations to boost infrastructure development. 'Collaboration is the catalyst for transformation, and building infrastructure is our top priority,' he said, emphasising the need to integrate local communities to promote rural tourism and hospitality excellence. The first day of the conclave featured panel discussions on key tourism drivers, Creative Economy, Products & Projects, Investments, Capacity Building, Branding and Communications, and Technology in Tourism. The state signed MoUs with nearly 80 leading investors, committing over Rs 10,140 crore to transform tourism infrastructure. These projects are expected to create over 22,325 direct and indirect jobs and add approximately 7,439 hotel rooms across Andhra Pradesh in the next four years, significantly enhancing the state's capacity to become a premier tourism destination. The MoUs also include partnerships in homestays, cruises, adventure sports, and water professionals and stakeholders from various tourism sub-sectors, along with prominent national and international brands, participated to shape a robust tourism development strategy for the state. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will attend the concluding day of the conclave to provide further guidance to the tourism sector.

Hotel rates under watch in Bengal's Digha as tourism booms after temple launch
Digha in West Bengal is witnessing an unprecedented tourism boom following the inauguration of the Jagannath Temple. The surge in tourist footfall has triggered a steep hike in hotel prices, leading to widespread complaints of overcharging, particularly on weekends and festive Jagannath Temple in Digha was officially inaugurated by the West Bengal government on April 30. Tourists have reported that hotel tariffs have doubled or even tripled in some cases, with several hotels charging extra even on advance bookings. This abrupt spike has upset many long-time visitors who share a sentimental connection with state government has also stepped in to regulate hotel tariffs, saying that prices cannot be increased arbitrarily. This intervention has received support from both tourists and hoteliers. Following the Chief Minister's directive, the Digha Shankarpur Hoteliers Association also initiated measures to address response to mounting complaints, the Digha Hotel Association has taken corrective steps. All hotels are now mandated to prominently display tariff Chakraborty, Joint Secretary of the Association, acknowledged the grievances, saying, 'Many of the complaints about hotel rates are valid. Several hotels have been overcharging.' He confirmed that the association conducted a meeting on Saturday, June 14, where they reiterated the directive to display tariff emphasised the need for fair treatment of tourists, calling them 'the lifeblood of our hotel industry,' and warned of 'stringent action' against the Rath Yatra festival underway, hotel bookings are peaking once again. Rajahmundry will be in world tourism map in two years, says Shekhawat
Rajamahendravaram: Union minister for culture and tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, state tourism minister Kandula Durgesh, and Rajamahendravaram MP Daggubati Purandeswari laid the foundation stone for the prestigious Akhanda Godavari Tourism Project at Pushkar Ghat in Rajamahendravaram on Thursday. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 94.44 crore, aims to transform the region into a world-class tourism destination. Speaking on the occasion, Union minister Shekhawat said that the project will create over 8,000 direct and indirect jobs and attract 35 lakh tourists annually by 2035. He stated that the Centre had sanctioned over Rs 450 crore for various tourism projects in Andhra Pradesh through flagship schemes such as Swadesh Darshan, PRASAD, SHAKTI, and Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD). Stressing the significance of Akhanda Godavari, Shekhawat noted that the project would elevate Rajamahendravaram to global tourism prominence by 2027, in time for the next Godavari Pushkaralu. He appreciated the combined efforts of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and minister Kandula Durgesh in shaping innovative tourism strategies. The funds under the SHAKTI scheme will be used to revamp heritage sites like the 127-year-old Havelock Bridge, developing it into a multi-functional tourist hub with theme parks along its 1.2 km span. Other initiatives include light and sound shows at Puttaparthi and Araku, cruise and cargo terminals at Vizag Port, and the modernization of Tirupati Railway Station. Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan noted Rajamahendravaram's cultural richness, naming iconic figures like Dokka Seethamma and poet Nannayya as its legacy. He stated that revamping the Havelock Bridge into a tourism site was a long-cherished dream of the people. He added that the coalition government is committed to the holistic development of Andhra Pradesh, and tourism is a major driver, with the potential to generate around 4 lakh jobs. MP Purandeswari promised efforts in Parliament to designate Rajamahendravaram as a Heritage Cultural Capital and ensure existing monuments are preserved during the riverfront development. She underlined the city's importance in India's tourism growth. Tourism minister Kandula Durgesh said the Akhanda Godavari project would include attractions such as the Havelock Bridge, Bridge Lanka, Picchuka Lanka, Pushkar Ghat, Kadiyam nurseries, Nidadavolu Kota Sattemma Temple, and the Godavari Canal, all to be developed as a single tourism circuit. District in-charge minister Dr Nimmala Ramanaidu criticised the previous government for stalling development and said the present coalition government is steering the state from destruction to reconstruction. MLAs Adireddy Srinivas, Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, MLC Somu Veerraju, collector P Prasanthi and others participated. Later, the foundation was laid for a new permanent building at the AP State Forest Academy at Diwancheruvu. Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan said a permanent building would be built with the ₹18 crore for the AP State Forest Academy. He said that the state government's mission to increase green cover to 23 per cent, as envisioned by CM Chandrababu Naidu. Minister Kandula Durgesh, MLAs Battula Balaramakrishna, RUDA Chairman Boddu Venkata Ramana Chowdary, SP D. Narasimha Kishore, and APFDC MD Dr R P Khajuria also attended the event.
