Second-round pick Anthony Belton went on 14 pre-draft visits before being picked by Packers
Second-round pick Anthony Belton went on 14 pre-draft visits before being selected by the Green Bay Packers at No. 54 overall in the 2025 draft, according to Packers coach Matt LaFleur.
Belton visited the Packers during the pre-draft visit. Other reported visits include the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. If nothing else, the number of visits suggests the league was interested in getting to know Belton, who was widely viewed by analysts as a third- or fourth-round player and ended up being somewhat of a surprise as a late second-round pick to Green Bay. It's possible many NFL teams viewed Belton as a better prospect than outsiders.
LaFleur's answer came in response to running rookie minicamp and limiting the physical toll on first-year players following a grueling pre-draft process. Visits disrupt routine and can be physically and mentally draining for players who must fly around the country and meet with teams during a narrow pre-draft window. Belton was one of the busiest prospects of the 2025 cycle.
Why would so many teams want to host Belton for a visit? Generally, teams want to check a box during a visit, whether it's answering questions about on-field or off-field matters or finishing up a medical evaluation. In Green Bay, the Packers have gravitated towards drafting pre-draft visitors under Brian Gutekunst.
Belton was a three-year starter at North Carolina State who participated at the Senior Bowl and did most of the athletic testing at the NFL Scouting Combine. However, he is also a 24-year-old prospect who was a zero-star recruit out of high school and spent his first two collegiate seasons at Georgia Military College. Other potential question marks include a habit of penalties (eight flags during each of his final three seasons), an ejection for spitting on a player in-game and his weight, which fluctuated in-season at North Carolina State.
Belton weighed 336 pounds at the combine and said he wants to drop another 10 pounds before the 2025 season.

Could Panthers Land Hometown Hero Jaire Alexander
Could Panthers Land Hometown Hero Jaire Alexander originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's not every day that a Pro Bowl-caliber cornerback becomes available, but when the Green Bay Packers released Jaire Alexander, the NFL world took notice. And in Carolina, where offseason buzz has been limited, the idea of bringing Alexander home could ignite a fan base hungry for hope. Advertisement Alexander, a Charlotte-area native who starred at Rocky River High School in Mint Hill, has long expressed admiration for his roots. Back in his Louisville days, he made it clear that the Queen City held a special place in his heart. Even during a Packers visit to Bank of America Stadium, he named himself an 'honorary captain', a playful but telling nod to his hometown ties. Now, with his release official, the Carolina Panthers could present a compelling destination for the 28-year-old defensive back. It's a rare convergence of need, opportunity, and emotional appeal. On paper, Carolina has already invested heavily at corner with Jaycee Horn, a first-rounder with elite traits when healthy. But Horn has struggled with injuries, appearing in just 37 games over four seasons. Depth behind him, Mike Jackson, Chau Smith-Wade, and Shemar Bartholomew offers competence, not dominance. Add a healthy Alexander, and suddenly Carolina's secondary looks like one of the league's most fearsome. Advertisement Alexander has spoken fondly of his desire to return to Charlotte, and there's precedent for hometown talent taking initiative. Just this offseason, Hunter Renfrow, another Carolinas native reportedly reached out to the Panthers looking for a chance to wear the black and blue. Could Alexander do the same? It's a question Panthers GM Dan Morgan can't afford to ignore. With head coach Dave Canales trying to reshape a roster that finished 5-12 last season, injecting energy and identity into the locker room is a must. Signing a player with elite skills, locker room presence, and a deep emotional tie to the city would check every box. Alexander's recent injury history, he played just seven games in 2024 might even help Carolina negotiate a team-friendly deal, something the cap-conscious front office needs as it rebuilds around Bryce Young. Advertisement The Panthers shouldn't just explore this opportunity, they should pounce. In a landscape where wins are earned as much in free agency as they are on Sundays, bringing Jaire Alexander home could be the bold, culture-defining move Carolina desperately needs. Portion Of Falcons Schedule Allows Them To Create Space In The NFC South Division
Portion Of Falcons Schedule Allows Them To Create Space In The NFC South Division originally appeared on Athlon Sports. According to NFL schedule experts, since the NFL has experts in every aspect of the game, the Atlanta Falcons have the 20th-ranked strength of schedule for the 2025 NFL season. Advertisement The Falcons are ranked 17th in the league in terms of difficulty alone. However, they will play against seven teams that were over .500 last season. Three of those teams had at least twelve wins, and six had fewer than six wins. Six of Atlanta's games will be against teams that made the playoffs last year. Numbers and math are complex, but a portion of Atlanta's schedule could present them with an opportunity to rattle off a few straight wins and set themselves up for a run at the NFC South division title. Looking at the schedule and eyeing weeks 8 through 17 could give Atlanta just what they need to turn this thing around and make their first playoff appearance since 2017. Falcons GM Terry Fontenot speaks to the media at the NFL Scouting Combine. Kirby Lee-Imagn Images In week 8, the Falcons will take on the Miami Dolphins at home. They will hit the road in week 9 for a date with the New England Patriots, then return home for a week 10 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. During this stretch, Atlanta could be looking at rattling off three wins in a row and propelling the team to a first-place division lead. Advertisement In Week 11, the Falcons will have a home game against the Carolina Panthers. Yes, they will be better across the board, but Atlanta could prove to be too much offensively. Week 12 at the New Orleans Saints is always a toss-up due to the bitter rivalry, but Atlanta could also snag a win here, depending on the Saints' QB situation. Weeks 13 and 14 will feature Atlanta taking on the New York Giants and Seattle Seahawks at home. Atlanta could be looking at a six- or seven-game win streak at this point in the season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 15 are another division toss-up. Weeks 16 and 17 will bring on the Arizona Cardinals and the Los Angeles Rams. All of this is speculation, and the Atlanta Falcons will need to develop the chemistry this summer with all of the new additions on defense. However, the offensive side of the ball can be a very potent weapon for the foreseeable future in the NFL and should propel Atlanta to the top of the NFC South.
