Ben Griffin defies Matti Schmid to win Charles Schwab Challenge
The American and German both began Sunday's session tied for the lead on 13 under, but Griffin immediately put himself a stroke ahead with an eagle on the first hole.
He quickly stretched the lead to three with a birdie on the next hole – which Schmid bogeyed.

A double bogey from Schmid on the fifth hole seemed to sew up Griffin's win, but four dropped shots from the American ensured the result went right down to the wire.
A par on the 18th ultimately proved just enough for Griffin to raise the trophy, a month after he tasted team success at the Zurich Classic.
Bud Cauley of the US finished three shots back for third on nine under par.
England's Tommy Fleetwood finished alongside World No 1 Scottie Scheffler on eight under after carding a final day score of two under 68.

It is a huge boost to Liverpool fans who were often frustrated by the likes of fierce rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea comfortably out-spending them. In his early years at the club, former manager Jurgen Klopp defended the ownership in press conferences and interviews. But behind the scenes, the German was making it clear that extra investment in the squad was vital if they wanted to lift the big trophies. When Klopp arrived at Liverpool, the Reds were in 10th place and had an ageing squad. Unhappy with the players at his disposal, Klopp received an apologetic text from the FSG bosses. In 2021, Klopp revealed: "At the beginning I received a message from the US saying, 'Sorry for the squad we've given you.' But all was good I replied, it just needs time.' Two years after revealing that text, Klopp watched his Liverpool side be convincingly beaten 5-2 at home by Real Madrid. It was the kind of chastening defeat which prompts action in the next transfer window. The previous month, Klopp publicly warned that Liverpool will need to be more aggressive in the transfer window or they will fall behind their Premier League and European rivals. He said: "I believe in coaching, I believe in developing, I believe in team-building and using those things 100%. "But meanwhile in the world out there the managers are really good. There are so many good managers out there it's crazy. So they believe in that as well, and if they start really properly spending and do those things as well, then you cannot not spend or you will have a little bit of a problem." In Klopp's final summer transfer window they fully took on Klopp's advice, as they rebuilt their midfield by signing Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo for a combined £155m. After Klopp walked away, many were surprised that Arne Slot was only able to sign Federico Chiesa in his first two transfer windows. But after winning the Premier League, FSG have shown the kind of spending intent usually seen by City, United and Chelsea. The way in which they have quickly moved for Wirtz highlights FSG's proactiveness, and that they are no longer afraid to break the bank to sign a potential game-changer. Full-back Jeremie Frimpong has already arrived this summer for £29.5m, while £45m Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez looks likely to arrive too, so Liverpool are clearly looking to build on their title triumph from Slot's first season. And it's a stark contract from the text message they left for Klopp all those years ago.

We told you how the Israeli striker is an Ibrox target - months after Leeds were hot on his heels Dor Turgeman is a wanted man by Rangers as Russell Martin looks to strengthen ahead of a new era at Ibrox. Record Sport first revealed the Maccabi Tel Aviv man is a target for the Light Blues. And his name could be an indication of how Rangers' new owners 49ers Enterprises aim to share information between the Ibrox club and Leeds United. That's because the 21-year-old was heavily linked with the Yorkshire club - before we revealed the bombshell American takeover exclusive. We told you in February of the bid for ownership by a US-based consortium. However, talks had been going on long before that for such a complex deal. And it was in December last year that Leeds United were first linked with the Israeli. Daniel Farke's men were keen to bolster their squad as they chased their eventually successful bid for promotion to the Premier League. A deal wasn't concluded but back in March of this year it emerged Rangers had watched Turgeman in action for Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europa League and games for Israel against Estonia and Norway in March. Coincidence? Surely not. News of the Rangers takeover by Leeds United 's owners had exploded by then and it's more likely they had started sharing information. The American group have their own player databases and that is likely to be exploited, with the Elland Road side likely aiming for a higher profile players now they have reached the Premier League promised land. But Turgeman, who stands at 6ft 1in tall and can play as a central striker or on the left wing, is under contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv until the summer of 2026, would fit the bill for Rangers He started his youth career at Ashdod before moving to Bloomfield Stadium in 2018. He spent a season on loan at Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam between 2021 and 2022 before breaking into the first-team picture at Maccabi. His manager Zarko Lazetic described him as a 'beast on the football pitch' and around the time of Leeds United's interest, didn't want to sell at any price, saying only a 'fairytale offer' would tempt him to part company. Rangers have been told that £4million won't be enough for the Israelis to sell and they will have to raise any offer.
