Hazlewood, who played a key role in RCB's bowling effort on the night, continued an astonishing personal streak — he has never lost a final in any major tournament he has played. A graphic shown during the broadcast highlighted Hazlewood's unbeaten record in finals: Champions League T20 2012 — Champion World Cup 2015 — Champion BBL 2020 — Champion IPL 2021 — Champion T20 World Cup 2021 — Champion World Cup 2023 — Champion IPL 2025 — Champion Known for his calm under pressure and consistent performances on big nights, Hazlewood once again delivered for his team when it mattered most. Josh Hazlewood inflicts record blow on Ponting in big statement before WTC final
Josh Hazlewood has helped inflict a record thumping on Ricky Ponting's Punjab Kings after a stunning return from injury in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Indian Premier League playoffs victory. In a timely boost before Australia's World Test Championship final against South Africa next month, Hazelwood starred for RCB in their dominant eight-wicket victory in the first IPL qualifier. Aussie selectors would have been a little nervous seeing the Test quick sidelined for the last month with a shoulder complaint. Hazlewood is likely competing against Scott Boland for the final spot in Australia's pace attack for WTC final which gets underway at Lord's on June 11, with Aussie captain Pat Cummins and fellow quick Mitchell Starc near certainties to feature, barring injuries. But after missing RCB's last three games due to a shoulder issue, Hazlewood stamped his Test claims with a superb spell of bowling against Punjab to brush off any injury concerns. The Aussie quick led the way with figures of 3-21 to help his side bowl the Kings out for a paltry 101. Bengaluru needed just 10 overs to reach 2-106 and march into their first IPL final since 2016, consigning Ponting's men to some unwanted history. Punjab's defeat was the biggest-ever in IPL playoff history in terms of balls remaining, as RCB cantered to victory with 60 balls to spare. Ponting's men have another chance to reach the final but the Aussie legend has just three days to rebuild his side's shattered confidence after Hazelwood and his men comprehensively outplayed them. Hazlewood's line and length was typically spot on and his three wickets came after Punjab's batters tried too many aggressive shots against hard-length balls. The Aussie quick ripped through Punjab's top order, claiming the prized wicket of captain Shreyas Iyer (2) and then fellow Aussie Josh Inglis (4), as the Kings slipped to 4-38 inside the batting power play. Fellow RCB seamers Yash Dayal (2-26) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1-17) also struck inside the first six overs before leg-spinner Suyash Sharma claimed 3-17 to help bowl out Punjab in just 14.1 overs. Hazlewood also struck again late on to remove Azmatullah Omarzai (18) after his late flurry with the bat helped boost Punjab's total. It was a ruthless bowling display from RCB, who had conceded totals of 200+ to their opponents in the three previous games without Hazlewood. And it showed how vital the Aussie fast bowler is to his side, with Hazelwood third on the IPL wicket-takers list with 21 scalps, despite playing three games less than CSK's Noor Ahmad, who leads the standings with 24 wickets. Yesss! Your return adds real strength to the team 💪🔥 Welcome back, Josh! — Cricket Shorr (@CricketShor) May 29, 2025 JOSH HAZLEWOOD ON HIS RETURN:3.1-0-21-3.- HazleGOOD, the big match player! 🫡 — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) May 29, 2025 21 Wickets in just 11 Matches. 😭❤️Please never leave us Josh Hazlewood.#RCBvsPBKS — Krishna. The Kings did get off to a bright start in the field though after removing Indian legend Virat Kohli for just 12 in the fourth over. Kyle Jamieson was the man to claim the prized scalp of Kohli, who has yet to win an IPL title. But Bengaluru raced to 1-61 in their six powerplay overs with top-scorer Phil Salt (56 not out off 27 balls) hitting boundaries almost at will to extinguish any faint hope the Kings might have had. Salt took 23 balls to bring up his fifty and skipper Rajat Patidar hit a six to seal Bengaluru's victory in a match that lasted only 24.1 overs. Ponting's Punjab can still make the final if they defeat the winner of Friday's eliminator between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. with agencies

Hazlewood destroys Punjab as Bengaluru reach IPL final.
The timing could hardly have been better. The return of Australian paceman Josh Hazlewood fired up Royal Challengers Bengaluru to such an extent that they marched into their first Indian Premier League final since 2016 with an utterly compelling bowling display. And it could hardly have been more emphatic. Punjab Kings were skittled out for 101 as Bengaluru set course for an eight-wicket victory in Thursday's first qualifier. Bengaluru needed just 10 overs to reach 2-106, handing Ricky Ponting's Punjab the biggest-ever defeat in IPL play-off history in terms of balls remaining in the process. They do have another chance to reach the final but Ponting has just three days to rebuild Punjab's shattered nerves. Bengaluru can now look forward to their first IPL final since 2016 on Tuesday. Mumbai Indians take on Gujarat Titans in Friday's eliminator, with the winners facing Punjab on Sunday for a place in the final. Desperate Punjab batters tried too many aggressive shots against hard-length balls as Hazlewood, who finished with figures of 3-21, induced thick outside edge of Shreyas' extravagant drive and Inglis got caught at fine leg while trying to pull , but got beaten with extra pace. Hazlewood had meaningful support from two other Bengaluru pacers.
