NRL WAG reveals her plans to take MDMA as part of her therapy

Daily Mail6 days ago

NRL legend Benji Marshall's wife Zoe has opened up about her plans to use MDMA to treat her obsessive-compulsive disorder.
The WAG made the confession on The Sh!t Show with Tammin Sursok podcast after revealing she has OCD with a metaphobia - the fear of vomit.
Zoe, 40, revealed she has now discovered she can go through the MDMA-Assisted Therapy (MDMA-AT) program which involves using the drug to treatment mental health conditions.
'I've done all of the things for so long, and I've just learned that I could potentially qualify to go through a program in Australia that uses MDMA and a psychiatrist to unlock this place in my brain I can't access with therapy,' she said.
'This is huge, and I've just broached it to my husband, who's super anti-drugs and it is is it wildly expensive in Australia.

'We're talking about bringing holistic and alternate medicine together. But I couldn't be at home to do it. I have to be in a hospital to do it.'
Zoe explained: 'I would need a medical team around me for this specific part of me to be safe enough to come forth through that experience.'
From 1 July 2023, authorised psychiatrists in Australia are able to prescribe MDMA for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Zoe and her husband Benji tied the knot in 2013 and share two children together, son Benjamin, six, and daughter Ever, three.
Last year, Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson told how Benji's devotion to his family should be admired.
'Because [Benji] doesn't work 14 hours a day and wants he and his players to have a family life, it's a good thing,' he said in a statement.
'I wish I had learnt that 20 years earlier. It would have saved me a lot of grief in my own personal life.
'What he's trying to do is instill a balance between life and work. I think he's got it.'
Zoe and Benji's 12-year marriage has seen the pair move interstate and abroad with their two children.
The rugby league WAG previously said she is proud the couple have managed to maintain such a strong relationship over the years.
Zoe and Benji walked down the aisle for a second time in 2023 when they renewed their vows at home, surrounded by family and friends.
While she was pregnant with their daughter Ever, Zoe admitted the couple had split up three times before tying the knot in 2013.
The family recently moved into a new $4.75million family home in Sydney.
Benji began his NRL career in 2003 and retired as a player in 2021. In 2024 he became the coach of his former team the Wests Tigers.

Jodie Marsh weeps in court after being told she can keep lemurs at her animal sanctuary

TV personality Jodie Marsh wept in court yesterday after she was told she can keep lemurs at her animal sanctuary. She had appealed against a council's decision to refuse her application for a wild animal licence. 2 Concerns had been raised about her taking a meerkat to the pub. Former glamour model Marsh, 46, said trolls were behind much of the criticism of her sanctuary in Lindsell, Essex. At a previous hearing, clips of screeching zoo lemurs were played to Chelmsford magistrates' court. But Judge Christopher Williams dismissed the council's argument about the animals' noise. He said Marsh was passionate about the care and treatment of the animals under her supervision. The judge added: 'The decision by Uttlesford District Council was wrong and continues to be wrong. I allow the appeal.' The former Page 3 girl has traded her hard-partying lifestyle for hands-on work at her own animal sanctuary in Essex. In a recent interview with The Sun, Jodie referred to herself as a farm girl and a "mess". In a further self-deprecating comment, she added that she was "fat but happier than ever". Despite her contentment, she lives with "anxiety/depression, aches and pains" and is using CBD oil to improve her daily wellbeing. Jodie Marsh gives health update after saying she's 'fat but happier than ever' now she's quit glamour modelling The model-turned-bodybuilder- who put her huge country pile on the market last year - said: "You might recognise me as someone that used to be glamorous, sexy, a bodybuilder and everything else, but now I'm just a farm girl and I look a mess." 2

Man found dead in a bin behind a Salvos store is identified

A man who was found dead inside an industrial bin behind a Salvation Army store has been identified. Police were called to the scene in Bellerive, Hobart, at about 9am on Monday after a garbage contractor made the grim discovery. It's understood the bin was located at the end of the driveway behind a hairdressing salon and a Salvation Army Store on Percy Street. The garbage contractor initially thought the body inside the bin was a mannequin display. On Tuesday, detectives have since identified the deceased man as 45-year-old Luke Jon Telega. An autopsy performed on Tuesday revealed Mr Telega had no visible signs of injury. On Tuesday, Detective Inspector David Gill said police were keeping an open-mind as to the circumstances surrounding Mr Telega's death. 'Police continue to maintain an open mind and treat the death as a case of misadventure, or foul play, or a potential combination of both,' Det Insp Gill said. Police released pictures of Mr Telega, with the permission of his family, in a bid for more information about his movements in the lead up to his death. Mr Telega was last seen alive on Saturday at around 10pm when he was visiting his children. 'But there remains a gap in the timeline until the discovery of his body by a garbage contractor on Monday morning,' Det Insp Gill said. Det Insp Gill added people struggling with homelessness are known to frequent the area behind the shops on Percy Street. Mr Telega was known to police and had been homeless for at least several months. It is unclear if he was sleeping inside the bin. Investigators are particularly interested in Mr Telega's movements on Sunday - the 35 hours between when he was last seen and when his body was discovered. 'Detectives have today spoken with members of the public, conducted further door knocking of homes and businesses and reviewed CCTV footage,' Det Insp Gill said.

Residential treatment school closes in North Carolina after deaths of 2 girls

A residential treatment school for girls in the North Carolina mountains has closed after a state investigation and the deaths of two of its students who took their own lives. Asheville Academy announced Tuesday that it released all of its students from its Weaverville campus this past weekend, saying the decision to voluntarily close was difficult. The closing came a few days after North Carolina mental health officials ordered the academy to stop taking in new students until the school could show it was protecting girls from harm, abuse and neglect and was properly supervising employees. That order came after the launch of a state investigation into Asheville Academy that began May 8, five days after a 13-year-old girl killed herself at the school, officials said. The letter from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services did not detail the problems the agency found, and officials have not released additional information, including the investigation's findings. The state ordered Asheville Academy to stop taking new patients on May 27. Two days later, authorities said a 12-year-old girl killed herself at the school — the second death in less than four weeks. The academy said it released all of its students two days after that. 'We are utterly heartbroken by the loss of a young life and share our deepest condolences with the family and everyone touched by this tragedy. Out of respect for those grieving and in deference to ongoing investigations, we cannot provide further comment at this time,' Asheville Academy said in a statement Saturday. The school has 27 girls and was licensed to hold up to 90 students, according to the last state report on the school released to the public in March. The owner of Asheville Academy had a nature-based residential therapy program for boys closed by North Carolina officials last year. The license for Trails Carolina in Transylvania County was revoked after a 12-year-old boy was found dead in a cabin in February 2024, the day after he arrived. Family Help & Wellness in Oregon, which owns both North Carolina schools, did not respond to a message Tuesday. ___ EDITOR'S NOTE — This story includes discussion of suicide.
