Hialeah High English teacher accused of having sex with student, cops say

Miami Herald21-05-2025

A Hialeah High teacher was arrested Tuesday after being accused of engaging in a 'romantic, sexual relationship' with a student.
Misael Gonzalez, 55, is facing a slew of charges including lewd and lascivious battery and engaging in a sex act with a child. Gonzalez was removed from his teaching duties after police learned about the illicit relationship in April.
The student, a 16-year-old girl, said Gonzalez was her English teacher, and they grew close as she confided in him about issues she had with her father, according to Gonzalez's arrest report. The student said the relationship began when she was 15 — and some of the sexual activity happened in Gonzalez's classroom.
The girl also told detectives that Gonzalez had said he feared getting caught alone with her at school, the arrest report says. He instructed the girl to delete photos of them together, saying 'The ghosts of his past were coming back to haunt him.'
Gonzalez had the girl skip school on two occasions, taking her to the beach and a park, according to the report. He would drop her back off at school before dismissal. The student also told investigators that Gonzalez would meet her at her place of work, and they would get into his car to 'talk and kiss.'
Gonzalez has been teaching at Hialeah Senior High School, 251 E. 47th St., for more than 20 years, according to his now-deleted page on the school's website.
In a statement, the school district said it was 'disturbed by the unsettling allegations' and has begun termination proceedings against Gonzalez.
'Upon learning about this suspected behavior, Miami-Dade Schools Police immediately began their investigation and subsequently made an arrest,' the statement said. 'This type of behavior will not be tolerated as it runs contrary to the professional conduct we expect from all employees.'

‘Hug your children': Father speaks out on his teen son's slaying in Brickell condo

Days before Father's Day, the heartbroken dad of Dominic Ferrell, the 17-year-old stabbed to death in a Brickell condo, is speaking out to thank those supporting his family, to condemn the violent killing and to urge parents to hold their children close. 'On this Father's Day, I pray that you hug your children and appreciate every precious moment you have with them,' Jon Ferrell said in a Friday afternoon statement. Police have said Dominic was killed in his sleep, stabbed with a kitchen knife by 26-year-old Kyrill Kehl in a condo on the 34th floor of Tower 3 of the Icon Residences by SS Vacation Rentals at 485 Brickell Ave. The stabbing happened around 2:15 last Sunday morning. Jon was with his son and asleep in the condo when his son, who had just finished his junior year at Miami Beach Senior High, was killed. Shortly after, Kehl would fall to his death at a neighboring building — police have yet to say if the fall was intentional or accidental. Jon and Dominic, who was the eldest of four children, weren't supposed to be seeing each other that day. Christine Maron, Dominic's mother, had gotten a temporary restraining order against her estranged husband in May, forbidding him from having contact with her or their children. Dominic visited his father against Maron's wishes, Maron's court filing says. 'All families have differences,' he said. 'Consistent with Dominic's extraordinary empathy and our loving bond, he chose to join me on the night of this horrific event. Of course, my wife and I will cooperate with law enforcement as we get to the bottom of this senseless murder.' Jon said that the night before, he and Dominic were making plans for Father's Day, which included a golf game with the entire family. Kehl had entered through the lobby, and waited until two men went up on the elevator, Miami Police said. He got off on the 47th floor, before making his way to the 34th floor. Tower 3 has both condo units, some of which are rented through Airbnb, and hotel rooms as it's the site of the W Miami Hotel. 'It is unimaginable to us that such a violent and deranged man was able to enter the lobby, elevator, and ultimately, the residential floors of the Icon Residences,' he said. 'I chose to stay at this well-known building because of my expectation of safety and security. I look forward to the Miami Police Department's findings for the closure our family so desperately needs.' Dozens have expressed their condolences for Dominic, a rising senior at Miami Beach High who aspired to attend the University of Florida and one day own a business. Russ Rywell, the longtime Beach High speech and debate teacher and coach, was impressed with how Dominic would prepare for a debate. 'He wasn't the type of [student] to not care about schoolwork or to just slide by,' Rywell told the Herald. '...He always put in effort and had a good attitude.' 'On behalf of my family, we want to thank all of you for your outpouring of love and support,' he said. 'Right now is the time for my family to heal and mend as we make funeral arrangements. We are shattered by the loss of Dominic, but we will be strong and will come together with God's help.' Miami Herald Staff Writer Grethel Aguila contributed to this report.

Alleged Antonio Brown Shooting Target Claims Dispute Stemmed From Money Remark

The man who Antonio Brown allegedly tried to kill in a shooting last month says the dispute that led to the gunfire was sparked by a remark about money. Zül-Qarnain Nantambu joined Charles and Elex on "TMZ Live" on Friday and explained he and Brown had big beef long before their differences turned physical outside of a celebrity boxing event back on May 16. Nantambu alleged that a few years ago, when they were both in Dubai for a Floyd Mayweather fight, Brown stole some jewelry from him. Nantambu said the incident actually resulted in a lawsuit, which he claims ended in a judgment against the former NFL star. Nantambu said when he hit up Adin Ross' Brand Risk event in Miami and saw Brown there -- he reminded the ex-Steelers receiver about the debt he owed ... "and then that's when the attack happened." Nantambu claimed Brown hit him ... and then several of the athlete's friends raced in to tag him as well. He said it all resulted in him needing seven stitches just above his eye. He added that he believes a bullet that Brown eventually fired at him toward the end of the altercation might have grazed his neck. As you know, an arrest warrant for Brown has been issued over the allegations ... but he hasn't seemed to sweat it much -- posting a video of him Friday riding a bike with a smile on his face. The charge Brown is currently facing is felony attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.

Miami Beach foot pursuit ends with suspect struck by police SUV, video shows

A surveillance video obtained by CBS News Miami shows a man being struck by a Miami Beach police SUV and tackled during an arrest Friday morning, following a reported disturbance near Collins Avenue. The video, recorded around 7 a.m. near 9th Street and Collins Avenue, shows Jeremy Stafford, 30, running from Miami Beach police. As he steps off the sidewalk into the street, he is struck by a marked police vehicle. The footage shows Stafford losing his balance from the impact and falling to the ground. He is then seen attempting to get up—his shorts falling down in the process—before being tackled to the ground by an officer. Additional officers are seen quickly joining in the arrest. Police say man was intoxicated and combative According to a statement from the Miami Beach Police Department, officers had responded to a violent disturbance near the 800 block of Collins Avenue and encountered Stafford, who they said appeared "highly intoxicated," displayed "aggressive behavior" and refused to follow commands. Police said that when officers attempted to arrest him, Stafford "assumed a combative stance and fled on foot." Authorities said a department-issued Taser was deployed but was ineffective. Stafford then ran into oncoming traffic and collided with the marked police SUV, according to the statement. Despite the impact, police said he continued to resist arrest until he was taken into custody. Facing multiple charges According to police records, Stafford was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, resisting arrest without violence and consuming alcohol in public. Bond amounts range from $150 to $2,500, with one bond listed as "to be set." Police also confirmed that Stafford is a suspect in an ongoing sexual battery investigation.
