Illinois and Candelari on course for Gold Cup showdown
There is a vacancy at the top of the staying tree after the recent retirement of O'Brien's dual Gold Cup hero, but hopes are high Illinois could prove a ready-made replacement judged on his impressive Ormonde Stakes success at Chester.
O'Brien has also confirmed Coronation Cup hero Jan Brueghel, but Illinois is poised for a mouthwatering showdown with Graffard's French raider, who announced himself at the top-level with a sublime performance at ParisLongchamp in the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier.
John and Thady Gosden's Trawlerman and Sweet William have been regular bridesmaids to Kyprios and now have the chance of their moment in the spotlight, with the former winning well in his Sandown reappearance.
Andrew Balding's Coltrane is another regular in this event, but he will have to reverse Sagaro Stakes form with Michael Bell's Yashin to make his presence felt, with Bell looking to recreate the Gold Cup exploits of Big Orange from 2017.
Saeed bin Suroor has confirmed Dubai Gold Cup scorer Dubai Future, with James Ferguson's Wonder Legend given the chance to transfer his smart all-weather form on turf.
The 10-strong list is rounded off by Alan King's stalwart Trueshan, although the warm weather has the potential to once again scupper any hope of him appearing in this race.

West Ham hold transfer talks for ex-Man Utd target Chelsea tried to sign
Gambian attacker Adama Bojang was previously eyed by the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in the summer of 2023 West Ham are weighing up a potential swoop for Gambian wonderkid Adama Bojang. The exciting 21-year-old forward previously caught the eye of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea in 2023 before later joining French side Stade Reims. It's understood Chelsea were willing to pay up to £1million for his signature in a deal that would have seen Bojang land at Strasbourg, however, Blue Co did not wish to bid higher than that figure and Reims eventually wrapped up an agreement worth in the region of £3m. Bojang spent last season on loan in Switzerland with Grasshopper Club Zurich where he struck six goals and provided two assists in 27 appearances. In April, he struck a hat-trick against FC Luzern and also hit a brace against INEOS-owned FC Lausanne-Sport in February. The Gambia U20 international is widely regarded as one of the best African talents of his generation and was also courted by the likes of RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hoffenheim before sealing his switch to France two years ago. Now he could be on the move again following Reims' relegation to Ligue 2 which means they will have no choice but to reluctantly listen to offers in a bid to raise funds. Earlier this week, West Ham, who have been tracking the player for some time, held talks over a move and according to sources, Bojang is expected to be available for a price in the region of £10m to £11m. But the Hammers are not the only Premier League club interested as Everton and Brentford have also made enquiries for the highly-rated attacker, who is being tipped to make an impact in one of Europe's top-five domestic leagues. West Ham are keen to strengthen their forward line and have also looked at 22-year-old Rangers star Hamza Igamane. The club's head of recruitment Kyle Macaulay has been tasked with identifying targets for Graham Potter as the duo look to make wholesale changes to West Ham's underperforming squad. Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika is another player of admiration while West Ham are also chasing the signing of a new goalkeeper following the departure of Lukasz Fabianski with Aaron Ramsdale among the names under consideration. They will also need to replace the likes of Aaron Cresswell, Vladimir Coufal, Danny Ings and Kurt Zouma who will officially depart the London Stadium at the end of the month as free agents. It's been a slow start to summer business as the West Ham hierarchy are looking to use sales to supplement their transfer budget but they have already rejected an informal approach from Chelsea for Mohammed Kudus which included the chance to sign multiple Blues stars as part of a potential swap deal. Kudus' West Ham release clause is only active from July 1 to July 10. Join our new WhatsApp community! Click this link to receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Colin Keane weaves magic on first Sandown ride
Trained by Grand National and Gold Cup-winning Henry de Bromhead, the Earthlight filly had rattled the crossbar in two efforts so far this term and at one stage looked she could be an unlucky loser once again as her rider searched for an opening aboard his powerfully-travelling mount. However, Keane got the 5-2 second favourite out and motoring just in time to hit the line just in front of Clive Cox's Hold A Dream, with a photo required to determine the short head verdict in the Listed event. By a NOSTRIL! 👃 Town And Country gets up to pinch the BetMGM Scurry Stakes on the line 🥇 #ITVRacing | @ctkjockey | @HenrydeBromhead — ITV Racing (@itvracing) June 14, 2025 The win extends the six-time Irish champion's stellar week since being appointed Juddmonte's retained rider and as he is set to be a more regular sight on British soil, it was a fine way to get accustomed to Esher. Keane told Racing TV: 'She was keen and Billy Lee told me she could be but I didn't think she would be that bad and she ended up bringing me into a couple of pockets. 'To be fair to her she only got out in the last half furlong and she has done well to win. I think over here when she gets used to proper sprinting it will suit her and the quicker they go the better as she will relax and we'll see the best of her. 'I would have thought she could go on to run well in Group company.'

Truth behind Donald Trump rumour as US President tipped to drive McLaren F1 car
Donald Trump will not be driving a Formula 1 car next week, can confirm. That was the fanciful claim made during a live broadcast from the Canadian Grand Prix on French television this weekend, sparking widespread confusion online. Of course, it sounds like an entirely ridiculous rumour, despite Trump being acquainted with McLaren chief executive Zak Brown. And a McLaren spokesperson has confirmed as much, telling when we approached the team for comment: "Not true, he won't be driving our car." The claim was reported on French television channel Canal+ during their live coverage of practice in Montreal. And, naturally, the rumour made its way onto social media where it began to get some traction. The claim was that Trump might be set to get the chance to drive an F1 car at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas. It was not specified which car it would have been, other than that it was said to be a McLaren, which would surely have to be specially modified to fit the US President. The fanciful rumour was perhaps made more believable by the specific mention of McLaren. Trump was hosted by the team at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix and is said to have a personal relationship with the team's American chief executive Zak Brown. ---
