Zayed University hosts "GlobCom Symposium 2025"

ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Zayed University (ZU) announced the launching of the "GlobCom Symposium 2025" on May 23-24, at its Abu Dhabi campus. The event will bring together nine student teams from 14 universities across 13 countries to contend in a global strategic communications competition focused on conservation and biodiversity.Held in collaboration with Panthera, a global organisation devoted to the conservation of the world's 40 wild cat species, and the Global Communication Institute (GlobCom), an international academic platform empowering future public relations professionals, this year's symposium will explore the theme 'Game On: Interactive Campaigns for Biodiversity.'The student teams, who have been working together virtually across borders for the past two and a half months, will now come together in person to present their proposals to Panthera, showcasing how gamification can be leveraged to promote conservation awareness and engage global audiences.The two-day programme will feature mentorship sessions, keynote speeches, panel discussions with experts in biodiversity, communications, and youth engagement, concluding with a gala dinner and the announcement of the winning student team on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
Hosting the event reflects the University's commitment to global collaboration, experiential learning, and equipping students to tackle real-world challenges through innovative and strategic communication.

Strong and growing UAE–Philippines relationship In his opening speech, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak congratulated the Filipino community on this important national day and said, "I am delighted to be with you this evening to celebrate the 127th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.""On behalf of the people of the United Arab Emirates, I extend our heartfelt congratulations and warmest greetings to the people of the Philippines here and around the world. This day marks not only your independence, but your enduring spirit of resilience, community, and optimism. It is a day of pride, and one you have every reason to celebrate, said His Excellency."He added that the UAE is pleased to call the Philippines a close friend and valued partner. "Across this nation, and across the decades, hundreds of thousands of Filipino people have made their mark. Your knowledge, skills, creativity, and compassion have enriched many sectors of our society – from healthcare and education to hospitality, finance, entrepreneurship, and the arts."His Excellency emphasised that "although our two countries may be separated by geography, we are united by shared values: openness, optimism, mutual respect, and a belief in the dignity of every individual."He noted that the UAE's success story is a shared story. "We are a global crossroads. A place where more than 200 nationalities live and work side by side. Participants can submit entries in various formats—short stories, articles, Nabati and classical poetry, reflections, or letters, focusing on their connection to the UAE's cohesive community and national identity. This initiative aims to strengthen social bonds, promote cultural diversity, and foster pride in the UAE's unique qualities. Selected writings will be published and widely distributed, amplifying voices that embody the UAE's spirit of unity and coexistence, making it a meaningful contribution to community engagement and national pride. Full Day of Celebrations Also speaking at the event, Honourable Hans Cacdac, Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers of the Philippines, added, "Kalayaan not only commemorates our independence but also highlights the strong partnership that enables Filipinos to contribute meaningfully to both nations." TRENDS participates in Glacier Conservation Conference in Tajikistan

He emphasised the urgent need to strengthen international cooperation, and reaffirm commitment to implementing global agreements, such as the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and the landmark UAE declaration issued at Mohammed Al-Ali emphasised that transitioning to renewable energy represents a strategic response to global warming. He highlighted the need to scale up renewable energy production, and to enhance energy efficiency by 2030, in line with the targets of the COP28 Conference. The UAE as a ModelThe UAE is a pioneering model of adopting renewable energy projects. It plans to use 44% of its energy from renewable sources by 2050, with investments of up to $163 billion in solar technologies and sustainable development initiatives. Dr. Al Ali highlighted some key undertakings, such as Masdar City, the world's first carbon-emission-free city; the three largest operational solar power plants globally, with a fourth under construction; and the world's most prominent single-site solar collector. Research InstitutionsDr. Mohammed Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS, emphasised the pivotal role of research institutions in offering innovative policy recommendations, and in supporting international efforts to address climate change.
