Saudi Arabia Digitalizes Prescription of Controlled Drugs
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health has replaced the paper-based system in medical prescription and launched a new system for the electronic prescription and dispensing of narcotic, psychotropic and controlled drugs.
The Kingdom's health authorities announced that the new system is based on a national platform for the prescription, dispensing and control of this type of medication, Gulf News reported.
As part of the health sector's digital transformation, the new platform will ensure the proper prescription and dispensing of narcotic and psychotropic drugs in all health facilities across the Kingdom.
Crucially, the platform will enhance safety for all users through the strict monitoring and follow up on narcotic, psychotropic and controlled drugs.
Moreover, users will have an exclusive feature to access these digital prescriptions and download them via the government app 'Sehhaty' in PDF format.
Therefore, it will further boost regulatory coordination at health facilities across the Kingdom.
Furthermore, health practitioners will have an opportunity to check the history of relevant prescriptions for these e-prescription for narcotic, psychotropic as well as controlled drugs.
It is worth noting that the new system allows tracking the dispensing of this type of drugs through pharmacies licensed to dispense them, whether governmental, community or private.
Thus, it establishes an electronic linkage and integration between all health facilities.

More than 5,000 volunteers support pilgrim healthcare
MAKKAH: More than 5,000 healthcare volunteers are participating in this year's Hajj season, the Ministry of Health said, as part of efforts to enhance the quality of services for pilgrims. The initiative aligns with the goals of the Health Sector Transformation Program and the Pilgrim Experience Program, aiming to increase volunteer participation and strengthen their role in serving pilgrims. Volunteers support healthcare services in three main areas: preventive, curative, and support, the ministry said. Their efforts cover various locations within the holy sites, including Makkah, Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah, as well as hospitals and healthcare centers. According to a report, more than 147,000 medical services have been provided to pilgrims so far. Healthcare data shows that 80,603 pilgrims benefited from primary care centers, while emergency departments received 35,176 cases. Outpatient clinics treated 7,541 patients, and 5,619 cases were admitted to hospitals, including 2,626 in intensive care. Additionally, 248 cardiac catheterizations and 18 open-heart surgeries were performed.

Saudi Gazette Report MINA — More than 23,000 buses were deployed across three shuttle routes, supplemented by traditional modes of transportation during this year's Hajj, according to the control room at the Public Transport Center of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites. This effort, part of the largest transport fleet operating in a single area worldwide, achieved a record time for Tawaf Al-Ifadah, demonstrating exceptional professionalism and precise operational coordination. Moreover, the Mashaer Metro Train maintained its efficient performance, transporting over 604,000 pilgrims since its launch of operation for this year's Hajj on Tuesday. These were distributed across three main movements: Movement A with more than 27,000 passengers, Movement B with 283,000, and Movement C—the highest—with 294,000, reflecting the system's strong operational efficiency. In the health sector, the Ministry of Health continued to provide integrated services through its facilities across the holy sites. The number of health services provided exceeded 125,573, including advanced procedures such as 216 cardiac catheterizations and 18 open-heart surgeries, all performed efficiently by qualified Saudi medical personnel. This outcome confirms the high level of health preparedness and the development of national medical capabilities. In the same context, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that it has conducted over 5.5 million electronic readings of the Nusuk Card as part of its technical plans to enhance pilgrim services and improve organizational safety. Meanwhile, the Pilgrims Care Center, through the unified number 1966, has provided more than 310,000 services since the beginning of the season, including inquiries and direct support. Additionally, field teams from the Compliance Centers have carried out over 65,000 inspection tours of service providers to reinforce compliance and improve performance quality. These integrated efforts reflect the strong coordination among various entities involved in Hajj, under the guidance of the wise leadership and in line with the objectives of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which aims to advance the Hajj system, harness modern technology, enhance the pilgrim experience, and enable them to perform their rituals in a safe, organized environment prepared to the highest international standards.
