Family of Troy man killed in hit-and-run searching for answers

TROY, Ala. (WDHN) — Family members of Wiley Noble Morse, an avid walker, are searching for answers after they found out he was killed in a hit-and-run over the weekend.
'Shocked and devastated is what I can say because the mother was just with him hours previously before that, and she just broke down crying when we told her, and for the whole family, it's just a sense of loss,' said Jason Buchanan, the victim's brother-in-law.
Morse, along with his dog known as 'Punk Munk' was walking to his friend's house along Highway 231 near Troy Sunday night, and then tragedy struck when troopers say a car that failed to stop hit Morse, yet the driver kept going.
'If the guy had stopped, the other guy probably wouldn't have hit him,' Buchanan said.
Moments later, he was hit again by a different car driven by a 25-year-old from Pansey in Houston County.
The family says they have yet to hear anything from law enforcement about the first vehicle description or identity of the driver.
'We just want justice if what happened was true, and he did get hit, and the guy did leave,' He said. 'We just want justice because how can someone do something and then just leave an injured person sitting there, it's just sad and I hope the person is found.'
Buchanan said his brother-in-law walked everywhere. He was a kind person who didn't have much, as he faced life struggles. However, he said you wouldn't have ever known.
'He was fun, he would make you laugh, he talked so fast and sounded like Boomhauer off King of the Hill, he talked that fast and you can hardly understand him,' His brother-in-law said laughing. 'If you were in trouble, he would give you the shirt off his back.'
The family has just started a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses since he did not have insurance.
'With the generosity of the public, if we could go ahead and fill in that last gap to give him a proper burial, that way the family will have closure, and we can work on the next chapter of life,' He added.
If you have any information about the hit-and-run, you are asked to contact ALEA, at (334) 983-4587.

Missing teenager cases provide unique challenges for law enforcement

SALT LAKE CITY () — Alisa Petrov, the teenager who was missing since April, was . When teenagers go missing, it presents unique challenges for law enforcement, but there are also unique approaches to finding them as well. Jason Jensen has been a private investigator for 16 years. He says social media is a key way to look for missing teenagers to see if there's more to the story. 'Oftentimes children that go, you know, go run off, run away. they're at danger of being exploited either for sex or for drugs. You know, they can fall victim to criminality, and we don't want that as a society,' Jensen said. Whether it's checking messages, seeing if they're posting with their friends somewhere, or if they're logging on, all these aspects of social media can help police find out what's going on. 'They're not active with their friends, they're off the digital radar,' Jensen said. 'That helps law enforcement realize, ok, there may be something.' Family releases statement after South Jordan girl found alive in Colorado On the other hand, he says it's common for a missing teenager to just be at a friend's house. When it's a female that may be vulnerable to exploitation, or there's, you know, known communications with adults that are luring that type of a child from the home, then there's real danger there because we don't know if they actually met up with one of those individuals.' Multiple geese apparently run over, community member calls for action

WICHITA, Kan (KSNW) — Monday morning, Cylie Gillespie was one of a few to discover a 'disgusting' scene. Along McLean Street lay around half a dozen geese and goslings just feet from each other, and clearly, they had been run over. Roadkill on Wichita's streets is not uncommon. It was the way these geese were spaced along the street that caused Gillespie to pause her morning drive to work. 'Being that I've lived by the river for so long, you know I have seen geese hit, whether it's one or a couple. But what caught my eye was that there were so many of them and they were feet apart from each other,' Gillespie said. Stopping for geese is a fact of life for commutes in the city, and by extension, so is roadkill. But killing a goose, especially intentionally, can come with a hefty fine. Canada Geese, like those laying on McLean, are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty of 1918. Family of teen injured after pickup truck crashes into home speaks out 'Those birds are federally protected for a reason,' she said. The treaty's goal is to encourage a sustained population of all migratory bird species. For Gillespie, it also highlights a more local issue of speeding in the area. 'People might think this is a laughing matter, and nature doesn't matter and wildlife doesn't matter and it matters to people who care,' she said. 'Even at Riverside Park, people don't follow the speed limit, and there are children and other animals, and people choose to fly through here.' As for the geese killed along McLean, she hopes this comes as a wake-up call. 'Why can't we slow down? Why can't we find patience in life to do better as people?! Gillespie said. 'They were simply crossing the street, hoping people would stop for them and have some empathy and patience.' Gillespie says she would like stricter enforcement of speed limits and a wildlife crossing sign to go up in the area. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
