The MSME sector can play a pivotal role in boosting productions for the defence sector in the coming days, a senior state government official said here on Saturday and urged companies to pitch for MSME units in West Bengal Speaking at the Defence MSME Manufacturing Forum meeting, organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here, the Principal Secretary, Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and Textiles Rajesh Pandey, said there are 90 lakh MSMEs in the state."We call upon you all to make a strong pitch for Bengal. There are 90 lakh MSME units in the state. West Bengal boasts one of the largest leather parks in the country. While a Rubber Park is coming up, several industrial parks are already in the state," he said.Ninety-nine per cent of MSME sectors are micro units, and the sector can play a pivotal role in giving a boost to productions for the defence sector in the coming days, he said."The Ministry of Defence took a policy decision that the MSME sector would participate in the defence sector in a big way, including start-ups, and this has given the state's MSME sector a huge opportunity to manufacture a wide range of defence products, including specialised equipment and participate in research and development activities," he said.Pandey invited across-the-table interactions between state officials, those seeking to invest in the defence sector and experts in the field to gauge what they want from the government could be of help - incentives and infrastructure facilities."We need to know the project proposals and in what way they can be of use," he said.He said the state has emphasised new projects and commissioning of projects, and a high-powered committee sits every 15 days to monitor the projects.Senior officials from GRSE, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Aerospace Engineers Pvt Ltd, and Titagarh Rail Systems Limited were present at the discussion, among others.

Micro-entrepreneurs seek swift processing of application for machinery subsidy in Tamil Nadu
COIMBATORE: The state government has been urged to expedite the application process for providing a subsidy to MSME units to buy machinery with a subsidy. The Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Micro Enterprises (TACT) claimed that it takes almost two years to complete the process now. J James, the president of a Coimbatore-based association, said loans are required to buy advanced machinery and the 25% subsidy offered by the state government in this regard is helpful but it is difficult to get this financial benefit. "Due to the various rules and practical difficulties in obtaining subsidies, genuine micro-entrepreneurs are finding it very difficult to obtain the papers and various certificates requested by the officials during the inspection. The state government should simplify the procedures for obtaining the subsidy," he stated. Explaining the necessity of buying new and advanced machinery, James said, "Micro-entrepreneurs take up job orders and supply spare parts. They rely on orders from various companies to operate their businesses. But many have not received orders for 12 months due to the severe crisis in the manufacturing sector.

Several bigwigs from India and Cyprus expressed hope for increased trade between the two countries as Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the country. A business roundtable event was held in Limassol, Cyprus, where PM Modi and President Nikos Christodoulides witnessed the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Indian and Cypriot businesses. Several MoUs were signed between Indian and Cypriot businesses, including between the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Cyprus Stock Exchange, and between the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The event highlighted the potential for investment and trade between India and Cyprus, with a focus on sectors such as fintech, technology, and renewable energy. Marina Zevedeou, President of Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI) - Cyprus and CEO of the Aspen Trust Group told ANI that they identified two very important business sectors of cooperation - the filming industry and the high tech industry in both countries. The Cyprus Stock Exchange and GIFT City in Gujarat have agreed to cooperate on dual listing, research, and outreach programs, creating new opportunities for investors and businesses. He said, "We have signed four MoUs. The most important MoU is between GIFT City in Gujarat and the Cyprus Stock Exchange, which is the first of its kind in Europe by India. This will open up a lot of investment opportunities for investors coming from Europe. Similarly, we have MoUs between the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and some others. 32 opportunities have been identified in several sectors between institutions, including the Maharashtra Government, the Gujarat Government, and the Chamber of Commerce." This is an excellent opportunity to promote further business between the two offers a number of opportunities for Indian companies. We have established a Business Council together with the Indian Chamber of Commerce to promote this idea, and as a bank, we have also signed an MoU with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to bring UPI payments to Cyprus and also to Greece. So overall we believe there is plenty of opportunity for business." Ashish Kumar Chauhan, MD & CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) said, "Today, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, several MoUs have been signed between Indian businesses and Cypriot businesses. One of the most important MoUs was signed between NSE International Exchange at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, which is India's face to the world, and Cyprus Stock Exchange, to do dual listing as well as research and outreach programmes on various financial instruments to create collaboration between European companies and GIFT City, Gandhinagar. This is going to open a new chapter in Cyprus-India relations going forward." The event highlighted the potential for cooperation in fintech and technology, with several Indian and Cypriot businesses exploring opportunities in these sectors. Alakh Verma, Founder and CEO of Silicon Valley-based software company BCentriqe AI, said, "We are coming to Cyprus to set up a subsidiary in Nicosia, and we have centres in Hyderabad and Pune. So this is a tri-national collaboration that we wanted to set up in Cyprus...
