NJ Beach Yoga instructor helps students find balance in the sand
The crash of ocean waves, the salty breeze and the soft, shifting sand. This is the setting for NJ Beach Yoga, where instructor Teri O'Connor has been guiding students through sunrise and sunset sessions since 2007.
Every class on the shores of Sea Isle City's beach is different.
Some mornings bring warmth and stillness, while others, like when we visited O'Connor's class, offer a thick, misty breeze that she calls "June-uary" instead of June.
But no matter the weather, her approach remains the same: embrace the moment, let go of expectations and find joy in movement.
"Beach yoga is about using the props nature gives us: the sand, the breeze, the sound of the ocean, the texture of the air," O'Connor said.
Her classes blend lighthearted playfulness with meditative reflection, creating an environment where students feel uplifted and supported.
CBS News Philadelphia
Patti Gerew, a longtime yoga student, described O'Connor's energy as "catchy," and said O'Connor always reminds students: "It's your body. It's doing what it needs to do."
Inclusivity is at the heart of NJ Beach Yoga. O'Connor emphasizes that yoga is for everybody.
She welcomes students of all levels with a simple philosophy: "All you need to be able to do is breathe, show up as is — no competition, no expectation."
Then there's the shell bucket, a signature tradition that makes each class even more special. At the end of the session, students reach in and pull out a seashell inscribed with a word or phrase, an affirmation meant just for them.
"You don't look at them beforehand," Gerew says. "Teri believes you pick the shell you need,"
O'Connor says it's the universe's message for you.
NJ Beach Yoga offers all-level beach yoga classes in Sea Isle at the JFK Blvd beach Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, starting at 7:30 a.m.
Classes are also offered at the 5th Street beach Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings. For more information, visit NJ Beach Yoga's website.

SeaWorld San Diego's emperor penguins moving to Florida
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — While SeaWorld San Diego was once able to boast the theme park was the only place you could see emperor penguins in the Western Hemisphere, that distinction now goes to SeaWorld Orlando. SeaWorld San Diego sent off its emperor penguins to SeaWorld Orlando, which will be debuting the birds on June 14 at its Antarctica Realm habitat. It is unclear if or when the penguins will return to San Diego. FOX 5/KUSI's reporting partners at the San Diego Union-Tribune say SeaWorld San Diego is going to be reimagining its Penguin Encounter exhibit. SeaWorld San Diego had long been able to claim the title of the only place in the Western Hemisphere to see emperor penguins — the largest of all penguins. Emperor Penguin chick becomes first to hatch at SeaWorld San Diego in 13 years Since making history in the 1980s with the world's then only successful emperor penguin breeding facility outside of Antarctica, SeaWorld San Diego has since hatched and raised more than 20 emperor penguins, including most recently in 2023, according to the park. All 18 species of penguin are legally protected from hunting and egg collecting. Penguins are vulnerable to habitat destruction, overfishing, ecological disasters such as oil spills, ocean pollution, and human encroachment into nesting areas. In celebration of the aquatic birds heading to Florida, downtown Orlando has three giant penguin art installations you can find around the city through June 19. Annual Pass Members were able to get early access to see the emperor penguins at SeaWorld Orlando on June 12 and 13 ahead of their Saturday debut. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Zion National Park celebrates 100 millionth shuttle boarding
ZION NAITIONAL PARK, Utah () — This week, Zion National Park hit the milestone of 100 million boardings of their shuttle system since its launch in 2000. The Zion Canyon Shuttle System was created to address traffic congestion, increasing visitation, and resource impacts in Zion Canyon, according to park officials. Zion National Park worked closely with the Town of Springdale, the Federal Highway Administration, the Utah Department of Transportation, and other partners. The Park said that the shuttle system is key to protecting Zion's incredible landscapes and improving the visitor experience overall, and it carries millions of riders annually. It makes it easier to explore the park without the hassle of traffic and parking. When the shuttle launched in 2000, Zion was seeing 2.4 million visitors annually, but in 2024, visitation was close to 5 million. 'Throughout this growth, the shuttle has remained a cornerstone of the park's management strategy,' Zion National Park said in a press release. visited Zion National Park and spoke with some visitors about the shuttle. 'It's the best way to do it, rather than driving yourself, try to find a parking space, which is really impossible. And then once you get into the park, it's a breeze, yeah,' Mark Keefer and Elena Szeto from California said. The shuttle system was designed to cut down on cars inside Zion Canyon, and visitors told that it's made their trips smoother and more enjoyable. 'It was pretty hard to find a parking spot because it seems really busy here,' Mia Starns and Mary Hughes from Florida said. 'But the shuttle helped out a lot… We had to park outside actually in that little town right there, so the shuttle helped.' The shuttle system has adapted to be more eco-friendly. In September 2024, Zion National Park transitioned its entire shuttle fleet to zero-emission electric vehicles, becoming the first National Park to do so. 'We're never at a loss for a ride to get from point A to point B. It clears up all the congestion. I'm assuming our park permits pay for it, and it's money well spent,' Kathleen Smith from Minnesota told The park celebrated the 100 millionth rider with a custom t-shirt and a gift bag provided by the Zion National Park Forever Project. 'It's probably our fifth time here,' Mark and Elena continued. 'We just love this area. It's beautiful, and we certainly appreciate the park shuttle and the city shuttle and how they integrate. Well, it's definitely a sane way to do it, instead of trying to drive around.' Zion National Park Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh said in a press release that the shuttle system is a reflection of everyone who works there to 'help protect this special place.'
