Hype Malaysiaa day ago

When it comes to live performances, Lady Gaga is second to none. However, this singer's cover of 'Abracadabra' in a nightclub in Chongqing had netizens doing a double-take, believing it was the real deal!
Recently, a video of a performance in a Chongqing nightclub went viral on Chinese social media. The video depicts a singer covering Lady Gaga's latest hit, 'Abracadabra'. However, what sets this cover apart is how elaborate it is and how closely it references the original performance. As shown in the video, the singer appears in a red ensemble, similar to what Lady Gaga wore during her performance at Coachella 2025. She also sported the iconic black bob hairstyle.
To netizens' surprise, the cover singer sounded like Lady Gaga and included her signature raspy voice in her singing. She also mimicked the star's stage movements and facial expressions. In response to the viral video, many netizens thought Lady Gaga was performing. Some also expressed surprise over the scale of the performance, saying they would've never expected such an elaborate performance at a nightclub.
After the video went viral, netizens began digging for more information about the 'fake Lady Gaga'. As it turns out, the individual was Chinese singer Pan Hongyue (transliteration from 潘虹樾). The 35-year-old first gained recognition for placing 8th on the 2009 Chinese singing competition 'Super Girl'. She didn't remain very active as a singer following her appearance on the show because she stopped performing to focus on her studies.
However, Pan Hongyue is slowly making her return to the entertainment industry through social media. Her Douyin account shows she's steadily gaining followers by imitating Lady Gaga. In one video, the singer recreated the American star's red leather ensemble that she sported in her 'Mayhem' album. Pan Hongyue also covered other Lady Gaga songs, including 'Poker Face' and 'Bloody Mary'.
Most comments towards Pan Hongyue's Lady Gaga imitation performances have been positive, with many saying they look forward to seeing more covers. What are your thoughts on this? Check out Pang Hongyue's 'Abracadabra' cover below:

Christine Fan competes in singing reality show, gets eliminated in 1st round

Singer Christine Fan has openly expressed her disappointment with her performance of 'The First Dream' (2004) on Chinese reality music competition 'Singer 2025'. Photo: Christine Fan/Instagram America-born Taiwanese singer Christine Fan made a short-lived appearance as a contestant on Singer 2025 – the Chinese reality music competition broadcast on Hunan Television – before getting eliminated in the same episode. The show, which premiered on May 16, features an international line-up of professional singers, including Chen Chusheng from China, Beni from Japan and Mickey Guyton from the US. Three winners will be named at the end of the season. Singer 2025 was formerly known as I Am A Singer , which premiered in 2013 and was renamed in 2017. This is the 10th season of the show, and voting results are determined by in-person audiences as well as Internet users. Fan, better known by her stage name FanFan, was brought in to replace Taiwanese singer Terry Lin, 58, who was eliminated after the fourth episode, which aired on June 6. Fan came in last among eight singers, ranking below those from China, such as Ma Jiaqi, Shan Yichun and Gai. Fan, 49, sang her hit track The First Dream (2004), but was off-key and suffered from shaky vocals. She reportedly cried as soon as she left the stage. Netizens compared her performance to the scene of a car accident, with viewers adding she was not confident and appeared nervous. In an Instagram post on June 7, Fan said she was thankful and satisfied to have participated in Singer 2025 . She expressed her disappointment, writing that 'it has been many years since I have participated in the recording of such shows, and I am upset with my subpar performance'. 'I have failed to meet the expectations of viewers, and I am deeply sorry for that.' However, the singer remained positive, adding that one need not excel every day, and that life will turn out fine as long as one bravely works towards accomplishing his or her dreams. She wrapped up her caption by thanking the show's crew, as well as her colleagues, friends, family members and the team behind Singer 2025 who cheered her on. Fan's latest album, Solitary Moment , was released in 2022. Since her music debut in 2000, she has staged several concert tours, with the most recent being her On Road To Happiness world tour (2017 to 2019), during which she made stops in cities like Taipei, Los Angeles and Singapore. She is married to Taiwanese television host Blackie Chen, 48, and the couple have nine-year-old twin sons. Chen was embroiled in Taiwan's #MeToo scandal in 2023 after being accused by Taiwanese actress Tina Chou of committing sexual harassment in 2012. Chen and Fan have denied the allegations. In 2023, the couple filed a NT$10mil (RM1.41mil) lawsuit against Chou to 'restore the reputation of the parties concerned', but ended up dropping it. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network View this post on Instagram A post shared by 范范范瑋琪 (@fanfan)

Trump attends 'Les Miserables' at revamped Kennedy Center

WASHINGTON: Months after orchestrating a conservative takeover of the Kennedy Center's leadership, President Donald Trump arrived there on Wednesday to attend "Les Miserables," his first show at the performing arts facility that has become a symbol of U.S. cultural and political divides. Trump did not attend events at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts during his first term but has taken a keen interest in it during his second. Deriding it on social media for putting on "Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth," he pushed out its former chairman, fired its longtime president and pledged to overhaul an institution he described as being in tremendous disrepair. The fallout has been swift. The musical "Hamilton" canceled plans to appear there, staff left and sales of subscriptions and individual tickets for Kennedy Center shows have dropped, according to two people briefed on the data. Overall year-on-year subscription revenue was down 36% to $2.8 million as of early June for next season, which begins in the autumn, according to one source. Theater subscriptions, normally a major revenue driver for the center, were down 82%. A Kennedy Center official said the comparisons reflected in those subscription sales were not accurate because the center had launched its subscription renewal campaign later in 2025 than 2024. "Our renewal campaign is just kicking off," said Kim Cooper, senior vice president of marketing, in a statement. Cooper also noted the center had launched a new subscription option that allowed customers to "mix and match" genres and said more announcements of shows were coming. The Kennedy Center depends on revenue from tickets and subscriptions as well as donations to operate. Ticket sales for "Les Miserables" have been robust, according to another Kennedy Center official. "President Trump cares deeply about American arts and culture, which is why he is revitalizing historic institutions like the Kennedy Center to their former greatness," White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement. Trump's appearance at the opening night of "Les Miserables", a show about citizens rising up against their government, comes just days after he sent U.S. Marines and the National Guard to quell protests against his administration's immigration raids in Los Angeles. First lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance also were attending. Trump will sit in the presidential box overlooking center stage, but he is not guaranteed a friendly reception in the 2,300-seat theater. When Vance attended a Kennedy Center show with his wife earlier this year, the crowd booed. Supportive donors will be present on Wednesday, but tickets for the musical were available for purchase by the public as well, along with regular subscribers. The night is sold out. Trump's appearance is meant to juice fundraising. Donors who pay $100,000 to $2 million get to attend a reception before the show, receive a photo with the president and be seated in good locations in the theater. The Kennedy Center is turning the event into one on par with its signature shows, including the Kennedy Center Honors, featuring a red carpet for high-profile guests with reporters and photographers in place. A Kennedy Center spokeswoman described the entry as similar to a "Hollywood movie premiere" with board members, lawmakers and Trump administration officials appearing. Under the leadership of Ric Grenell, a close Trump ally and former ambassador to Germany, the Kennedy Center has sought to add more conservative-leaning programming, including a show that Grenell has described as a celebration of the birth of Christ. Meanwhile, while Trump zeroed in on drag shows when he said the Kennedy Center had lost its way, multiple upcoming musicals include characters dressed in drag, such as "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Chicago." Other musicals have pulled out, according to a former Kennedy Center official.
