UAE Introduces Landmark Airspace Regulation for Drone Navigation
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has launched the region's first national regulation for certifying air navigation service providers for unmanned aircraft, known as CAR Airspace Part Uspace.
This pioneering framework sets stringent operational and safety standards for organisations seeking certification, ensuring seamless drone integration into the national aviation system.
Designed with a comprehensive approach, the regulation covers key aspects such as contracting, training, quality assurance, safety protocols, future planning, auditing, and certification. Licensed entities will now be responsible for specialised air navigation services for drones, facilitating a cohesive and efficient airspace system.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, underscored the regulation's significance, stating,
'This regulation is not just about compliance; it is a testament to our commitment to safety, efficiency, and innovation in aviation.'
He further highlighted that as drone operations are expected to double in the near future, this regulatory framework will serve as a benchmark for integrating drones into commercial aviation, reinforcing the UAE's leadership in the aviation sector.
Aqeel Ahmed Al Zarouni, Assistant Director-General of Aviation Safety Affairs, reiterated the regulation's crucial role in ensuring the safe integration of advanced drone technologies. By establishing clear certification standards, the framework promotes high safety levels, professionalism, and industry growth, further positioning the UAE as a frontrunner in innovative aviation practices.

Emirates will deploy a 302-seat Boeing 777-200LR on the route. The service is expected to boost travel options across the airline's global network of nearly 150 destinations, while also supporting the UAE's efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and assist Syria's rebuilding efforts in sectors such as energy, construction, and agriculture. Customers flying to and from Damascus will benefit from the airline's codeshare agreement with flydubai, offering greater scheduling flexibility and convenience. Emirates originally launched flights to Damascus in 1988 and had carried over 2.1 million passengers on the route before suspending operations in 2012.
