UP to fund all district disability rehab centres

Lucknow: The UP govt has proposed that it will fund all 38 district disability rehabilitation centres (DDRCs) to improve the facilities being provided to differently-abled persons. The initiative aims to strengthen service delivery and ensure better rehabilitation support for thousands of persons with disabilities across the state, said officials. At present, only around five DDRCs are receiving financial support from the govt of India, while one centre in Ambedkar Nagar is run independently by NTPC. Acknowledging the funding gap, the state's social welfare department proposed that state funding be used for the operation of all DDRCs. The department proposed an annual budget of Rs 12 crore for consistent rehabilitation, skill development and assistive services to persons with disabilities across the state. D DRCs offer essential services for persons with disabilities, including health check-ups, assistive aids, artificial limbs and skill training. Due to a lack of funding, many of these centres have not been functioning at full capacity. At present, around 15 lakh differently-abled persons are registered on the Unique Disability ID portal in UP. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed the social welfare department to ensure that there are DDRCs in all 18 divisional headquarters of the state. These centres will provide localised access to rehabilitation, education and skill development services.

Project worth Rs700 crore to help Kanpur turn into electric vehicles manufacturing hub

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh govt is set to establish Kanpur as a major hub for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing. Under the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision-2030, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will develop a cutting-edge EV park over 500 acres near Bhimsen, along the Dedicated Freight Corridor. The initiative by the Yogi Adityanath govt is also a significant step toward promoting clean energy and environmental conservation, said an official. With an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore, the project will be executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and is poised to position Kanpur as a key player in India's EV ecosystem, the official added. The primary objective of the EV park is to strengthen the local supply chain for electric vehicles and promote indigenous manufacturing. The park will house units for manufacturing electric motors, chassis, steel parts, and lithium-ion cells. Facilities for assembling lithium-ion batteries, chargers, controllers, and electronic components will also be established. A dedicated research and development (R&D) centre will be a vital part of the project, driving innovation and facilitating advanced product development. This R&D unit is expected to contribute not only to local progress but also to the global advancement of EV technologies. The establishment of the EV park will not only position Kanpur as an EV manufacturing hub but will also significantly boost the state's economy. Alongside the park, an integrated EV components cluster is being developed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in producing parts and components. This will create fresh opportunities for local entrepreneurs and startups, and generate substantial employment. Its proximity to the DFCC corridor gives the park a strategic advantage in terms of logistics and connectivity. Well-connected by rail and road networks, it will facilitate smooth transportation of raw materials and finished goods. By accelerating EV production, the project aims to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the adoption of sustainable energy sources. The EV park under the Kanpur Development Vision – 2030 will serve as a symbol of industrial innovation and progress, placing Kanpur prominently on the global electric vehicle manufacturing map.
