Government Cheese – Season 1 Episode 7 Recap & Review

The Review Geek07-05-2025

The Woman on the Roof
Episode 7 of Government Cheese starts with us jumping back in time to follow Astoria after saying goodbye to Harrison and Hampton as they head off for their camping trip.
With the boys out and Einstein still practicing his pole-vaulting, Astoria is determined to impress Mr Briess at work with her portfolio. However, Astoria is clearly not happy in her life, and alongside smoking cannabis, she also begins to hallucinate a coffee-loving housewife from a commercial on TV.
This woman questions Astoria's life purpose, hinting that her desire to branch out and be more ambitious with her career is at contrast with the current societal expectation of women being the perfect wives for their husbands.
All of this is only compounded further when Todd shows up and encourages Astoria to show some leniency for Hampton and make him feel more welcome at home.
When Todd leaves, satisfied that his message has got through, Astoria is visited by her neighbour, Martha. She riffs that she too has dreams, which include being a dancer. She's been pretending to fit in and she laughs off her pain.
Along with everyone in the neighbourhood calling Astoria a pet name in Tori, she also brings her up to the rooftop for a changed perspective. They sit and talk about the woes of the women in this suburban bubble, and it gives Astoria more context.
Everybody here has problems, and Martha brings up how everybody has lost their dreams as a result. She also knows about Astoria's romantic dilemma with the two men in her life, giving her plenty of food for thought.
When Martha leaves, Astoria eventually jumps off the roof straight into the pool below and begins laughing. She heads inside with renewed vigour, painting her designs again, while Einstein receives a letter from Rocketcorp. Is this a job offer?
The Episode Review
So this chapter switches the perspectives over to Astoria and we begin to understand what drives her and why she's so cold to Hampton too.
Understanding the façade these women put on everyday, burying their own dreams in order to please their husbands, is indicative of a bigger problem with gender inequality during this time period. We continue with the surrealist theme too, with the coffee lady and also the toad showing up to keep things suitably weird in this dramady.
Overall, this is a pretty decent episode, although there's not much in the way of plot development beyond establishing a bit more of Astoria's woes and why she's so unhappy.

Hateful trolls say my post-baby tummy is the ‘reason they're never having kids' – yes I have loose skin but it's so mean

A YOUNG mother has proudly shown off her post-baby body, but has been met with horrendous comments from mean trolls. Chloe, a 22-year-old stay-at-home mother who has two children, gave her followers a close-up look at the loose skin on her belly, just 26 weeks after giving birth to her youngest daughter. 2 But the content creator, who has amassed an impressive 316,900 followers and 36.3million likes online, was left with nasty messages from keyboard warriors, one of which said she is the reason they would ' never have kids '. Eager to clap back to the jaw-dropping remark and set the record straight, Chloe, who is mother to three-year-old Aura and seven-month-old Elladee, and had her two kids in the space of just two and a half years, wrote back to the brutal message. Posting on social media, the influencer wore a crop top and leggings and showed off the stretch marks on her tummy in response to a rude comment that read 'ok now this is another reason why I'm never having kids'. In response to the troll, Chloe confirmed: 'My body should never put you off having kids - this is natural, this is absolutely normal.' Chloe then expressed: 'Every woman's body is different after pregnancy, throughout pregnancy, and before pregnancy, so you saying this is the reason you don't want kids because of the look of my body is absolutely wild to me. 'Everyone is allowed their opinion, I'm not saying that, you're allowed to say whatever you want, you're allowed to be scared of pregnancy, you're allowed to be scared of what your body might look like after pregnancy.' The mother admitted that she was initially 'scared' of the 'changes' to her body after having a baby and 'never' thought her figure would look how it does currently after her second baby. She claimed that while she ' bounced back so fast' after giving birth to her first child, she was 'a lot larger' with her second. Chloe then added: 'If you bounce back very quickly after all your kids, you are very lucky.' Now, Chloe is on a mission to encourage kindness online and "normalise normal bodies". Influencer Caitlin Bridget Responds to Postpartum Body Shaming As a result, the blonde asked: 'Can we stop commenting hateful things on my postpartum body? As I will see them and words do hurt, so please be mindful and kind.' The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ ourfamilydiariess, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly racked up 72,500 views in just 24 hours. How do women's figures change after giving birth? TO SAY the body changes during pregnancy and childbirth is an understatement. Throughout the nine months it takes for the body to bring a baby into the world, it goes through some huge physical changes. Considering how different the body looks during pregnancy, it's not surprising that there are some lasting changes. And it some ways, it never does, Doctor Rachel Ward, a GP at Woodlands Medical Centre, Derby, said. 1. Wider ribcage and hips "During pregnancy in order to accommodate a growing baby and prepare for giving birth, our body produces a hormone called relaxin," she explained. Relaxin works by increasing the flexibility and movement in our joints and ligaments. "Many women find that after pregnancy the shape of their pelvis and ribcage remains different," Dr Rachel said. It is common to need a different bra size due to a change in chest circumference, the expert said. "This is a reminder of the changes your body made to accommodate your baby and is nothing to be worried about," she added. 2. Change in skin colour During pregnancy, most women experience skin changes as it stretches to accommodate your bump and enlarging breasts. "It is not uncommon to develop stretch marks. "Though they will often fade over time and become a shiny pale colour, depending on your skin tone they will not go away completely," Dr Rachel said. "Some people do not like the way stretch marks look but they are an incredibly common change that we see in many people," she added. 3. A change in breast shape Breasts increase in size during pregnancy as the breast tissue prepares to produce milk. And shortly after birth they will start to produce milk and become swollen, Dr Ward explained. "If you choose to breast feed or not, it is likely that the shape, size and way your breasts look and feel will be different after pregnancy compared to before," she added. "This is not a problem but it is important that we do learn what the new normal is for our breasts so we can stay breast aware and pick up and changes that could be cancer." Social media users were eager to support Chloe and numerous women rushed to the comments to praise her 'beautiful' figure after having two children. One person said: 'God forbid a woman who's had children looks like they've had children. I think you're gorgeous.' babies! It did everything it was supposed to do.' A third commented: 'You look fantastic.' Meanwhile, someone else shared: 'You're absolutely beautiful.' Not only this, but another mother chimed in: "My stomach is the same after my daughter, this is lovely to see. Women's bodies are amazing."

Soccer star Trinity Rodman gives an inside look into relationship with Ben Shelton at the French Open

US women's national soccer team star Trinity Rodman gave a behind-the-scenes look into her relationship with Ben Shelton, as the American dynamo competed at the French Open. Dennis Rodman's daughter was in Paris to watch her man storm to the last 16 of the men's singles draw. Shelton ran into Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros, losing one step away from the quarterfinals on clay. Shelton's stay in the French capital looked to be filled with time with Rodman when not competing, as the injured Washington Spirit forward shared a video of her time in Paris to her Instagram. The video was captioned 'No one else' with white-heart emoji and began with the pair holding hands and walking down a Parisian street. Then came a jump-cut to another day, where the couple are again holding hands and crossing the street. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Trinity Rodman (@trinity_rodman) The duo hard-launched their relationship in March, a few months before their time in Paris Rodman, 23, then shared a snap of the two kissing in the Paris night, seemingly after a nice dinner, which there was also a photo of in the reel. The video ended with Rodman showing Shelton in sweats, appearing to be transported to Roland Garros for a match. Shelton is part of the current American renaissance, alongside Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, and Taylor Fritz, chasing the likes of Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic for major titles. The duo hard-launched their relationship in March, a few months after Shelton competed in the Australian Open. Shelton will not have to wait long for his next major opportunity, with Wimbledon beginning on June 30. Rodman's timeline for a return to the field is unknown, as she is dealing with a back injury.

The 11-year-old T-shirt designer dressing the stars

From Elle Fanning to Michelle Pfeiffer, a young man named Dylan has dressed some of the biggest names in Hollywood. His bespoke, hand-decorated white cotton T-shirts started as a hobby, but have now featured on the red carpet of Cannes and his collections quickly sell out. He's also 11 years old. Dylan launched his brand, Dylan's T-Shirt Club, when he was six after his grandmother gave him a set of fabric felt-tip pens. Fans of the Los Angeles-based designer, who is half-British, include the fashion maestro Sir Paul Smith and Balenciaga's new creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. There is one of his T-shirts hanging in the wardrobe of the actor Mark Wahlberg. Super producer and Louis Vuitton's head of menswear, Pharrell, owns a style featuring a design inspired by The Lego Movie from 2014. Dylan's T-Shirt Club can even boast that it has been showcased on one of the world's most famous red carpets. Fanning modelled one of Dylan's creations with a pair of wide-leg blue jeans and platform heels while promoting her film, Sentimental Value, at the Cannes Film Festival last month. It featured the handwritten slogan, 'Joachim Trier Summer', referencing the film's hip Danish-Norwegian director. Less conspicuous was some low-key branding in pink neon on the back — though it was still spotted and namechecked by Vogue. Such attention is why the mightiest haute couture houses fight tooth and nail for VIPs to wear their made-to-measure creations on La Croisette. Answering questions from The Times over breakfast before school, Dylan said that Fanning choosing to wear one of his pieces on the French Riviera was 'really cool'. He has been drawing his whole life and moved on to T-shirts after his grandmother — 'an awesome artist' — gave him some fabric pens: 'The first one was for fun, but I really enjoyed doing it so I made another and another. And kept going.' If you are wondering how a tiny T-shirt brand started by a tween gains the attention of an It girl, know that Dylan's mother, Sam, is Fanning's personal stylist. She may have put her son's T-shirt on the rail, but her client still chose it over something from a revered couturier such as Valentino, Chanel or Dior. Dylan designed Fanning's tee, as with each he puts his hand to, at his kitchen table. His father is British and his paternal grandparents live in Durham. He says he fits in his hobby around seeing friends and homework and has designed 317 T-shirts in total. They are advertised on his Instagram page @dylanstshirtclub, which has nearly 6,000 followers. Every one is unique and usually commissioned especially. Prospective shoppers often get in touch to request their own through Dylan's parents, but most are given away as gifts. Not for long. Demand is so high that he is hoping to launch an official merchandise line later this year. Recently he had two collections sold through exclusively Woven, a menswear boutique in Durham. Those swiftly sold out. 'I love what I'm doing right now … I'm not exactly sure what the future holds,' he said when asked if they could one day be spotted on a catwalk. I love creating things in different areas, so it might end up being some mix of T-shirts, music, art, film … let's see!' His teachers will be relieved to hear that his fashion career is not taking up all of his time. 'I usually always get my school work done first before doing any work on T-shirts,' he promised.
