Nellai library to be named after Quaid-e-Millat Ismail
TIRUCHY: As part of the state government's efforts to honour those who contributed to the Islamic Tamil heritage, the soon-to-be-built library in Tirunelveli will be named after late political leader Quaid-e-Millat. An Islamic Tamil Studies Chair will also be established at the University of Madras, said Chief Minister MK Stalin in Tiruchy on Friday.
Inaugurating the 9th World Islamic Tamil Literary Conference at MIET college, Stalin said with this announcement he has fulfilled the wish of several Islamic outfits to honour the late leader. On the establishment of an Islamic chair, the CM said that Tamil's literary richness has always connected diverse communities.
On the DMK's stand on minority welfare, Stalin said that the party has always stood as a shield for minority rights, not just to uphold them but also to help such people secure their privileges. 'This is not new; it's part of our tradition,' the DMK president said.
Meanwhile, at the event, IUML national president Kader Mohideen was honoured with the Umaru Pulavar Award, while Madras University ex-VC Sadiq was given Kavikko Award. MP Navas Kani and 10 others were recipients to the Islamic Guardian Awards.

Role of Jaish-e-Mohammed Jaish-e-Mohammed is declared a banned terrorist organization by the United Nations and is also believed to be responsible for several major attacks in India, including the 2019 Pulwama attack, in which 40 Indian soldiers were martyred. Apart from terrorism, Brad Sherman also expressed concern over the condition of minorities in Pakistan. He said that Christians, Hindus and Ahmadiya Muslims in Pakistan should get complete freedom to follow their faith without fear and participate in the democratic system. Demand for release of Dr. Shakeel Afridi The US lawmaker also demanded the release of Dr. Shakeel Afridi, who allegedly ran a fake polio vaccination campaign to find Osama bin Laden with the help of the CIA, was arrested in 2011 and sentenced to 33 years. Sherman said that the release of Dr. Afridi would be a big step towards justice and closure to the victims of 9/11.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has alleged that the delay in conducting the National Census and the upcoming delimitation exercise are part of a calculated move by the Union Government to undermine the political representation of southern states. "The Census delay is no accident. The delimitation plan is not a coincidence," says the delay in the Census a 'sinister design,' Stalin warned that states like Tamil Nadu, which followed population control policies, would now be penalised for their progress. 'The 2027 Census will form the basis for the next delimitation, replacing the 1971 data. Drawing parallels with the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister remarked, 'While the Union Government spoke of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Article 370 was abrogated. Elections were held. Assurances were given in the Supreme Court. Yet, Jammu and Kashmir remains a Union Territory. This is the track record of the BJP we are dealing with.'Warning of the potential consequences of the proposed delimitation, Stalin said, 'If the Union Government proceeds with the delimitation based on the 2027 Census, the democratic power of peninsular India will be reduced to irrelevance.
