Greta Thunberg joins aid ship sailing to Gaza aimed at breaking Israel's blockade
Climate campaigner Greta Thunberg and other 11 activists set sail on Sunday afternoon for Gaza on a ship aimed at 'breaking Israel's siege' of the devastated territory, organisers said.

It will try to reach the shores of Gaza in an effort to bring in some aid and raise 'international awareness' over the continuing humanitarian crisis, the activists said at a press conference on Sunday, ahead of departure.
'We are doing this because, no matter what odds we are against, we have to keep trying,' Thunberg said, bursting into tears during her speech.
'Because the moment we stop trying is when we lose our humanity. And no matter how dangerous this mission is, it's not even near as dangerous as the silence of the entire world in the face of the live-streamed genocide,' she added.
Israel, which was founded in the aftermath of the Holocaust, has adamantly rejected genocide allegations against it as an antisemitic 'blood libel'.

Hate crime charge for suspect in Colorado attack that injured 8 at Gaza hostage protest
A man accused of using a makeshift flame-thrower and an incendiary device to attack a group in Boulder, Colorado, that had gathered to bring attention to Israeli hostages in Gaza, has been charged with a federal hate crime, according to court documents filed Monday. The suspect, 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, was charged in the attack that injured eight people, some with burns, as a group was concluding their weekly demonstration to raise visibility for the hostages who remain in Gaza. Authorities say Soliman yelled 'Free Palestine' during the attack on Sunday, the beginning of the Jewish holiday of Shavuot. It came barely a week after a man who also yelled 'Free Palestine' was charged with fatally shooting two Israeli embassy staff members outside a Jewish museum in Washington. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) leaders immediately declared the attack an act of terrorism and the Justice Department denounced it as a 'needless act of violence, which follows recent attacks against Jewish Americans'. Eight people were injured in the Sunday attack, some with burns.

Italy's Mount Etna spews huge plume of ash, gas
A huge plume of ash, gas and rock spewed forth on Monday from Italy's Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano, but authorities said there was no current danger to the population. Advertisement Images showed a massive grey cloud billowing forth from the volcano on the island of Sicily, beginning about 11.24am local time (09:24 GMT), according to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). Surveillance cameras showed 'a pyroclastic flow probably produced by a collapse of material from the northern flank of the Southeast Crater', the agency said. A pyroclastic flow occurs when volcanic rock, ash and hot gases surge from volcanoes. They are extremely dangerous. The explosive activity 'had transitioned to a lava fountain', INGV said, with the plume of ash expected to dissipate towards the southwest. Advertisement The president of the region of Sicily, Renato Schifani, said experts had assured him there was 'no danger for the population', with the flow not having passed the Valley of the Lions, an area frequented by tourists.
