Emmanuel Kunde dead at 68: Pioneering World Cup icon who scored against England at Italia '90 passes away
EMMANUEL KUNDE has tragically died at the age of 68.
The former footballer is best remembered for scoring against England in the 1990 World Cup.

His death was confirmed by the Cameroonian football federation.
A statement read: "His death constitutes a huge loss for Cameroonian football."
His most famous career moment came when he netted the winning penalty in the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations final against Nigeria.
He also scored a penalty against England in the 3-2 defeat in the quarter-finals of Italia '90.
Former Chelsea and Everton striker has shared an emotional tribute to Kunde on Instagram.
He wrote: "I'm just learning of the demise of the Elder Emmanuel Jérôme Kundé, an iconic figure in Cameroonian football, who died at the age of 68.
"Oh the sadness! It is a certain value of our heritage that is thus cruelly taken away from us.
"I keep with him the memory of a discreet and affectionate man, a figure of moderation and consideration.
"He was a fantastic footballer, the control tower in the midfield, the defensive wall the opponent crashed into but also a great playmaker when the team had possession.
"Individually, it was a fine passer and an artifact with phenomenal power and goldsmith precision.
"In fifteen years as a national team (127 selections), he took part in the two legendary epics of the Indomitable Lions in the World Cup (1982 and 1990), twice winner of the CAN (1984 and 1988).
"His long career brought him to France (Laval, Reims) and Gabon (US Bitam) as a coach, even though it is in the Canon sportif de Yaoundé that his name and legend will remain associated forever, as a player and as a coach.
"Praying for the great football family to keep him in your thoughts and my deepest condolences to his nuclear family."
Kunde started his playing career at the Mbankomo Club in Cameroon.
He then played for the likes of Tempête de Nanga-Eboko and Canon Yaounde before joining French sides Laval and Reims.
He retired in 1992, back in Cameroon after two years with Olympic Mvolye.

France face Germany in the Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday, with boss Didier Deschamps ready to take drastic action as Chelsea pursue one of his key players France head coach Didier Deschamps has threatened to drop Mike Maignan from his team for Sunday's Nations League game against Germany. Les Bleus will face the hosts in a third-place play-off. They lost a thrilling semi-final 5-4 to Spain on Thursday night, with Maignan starting between the sticks. He has emerged as France's first-choice keeper since Hugo Lloris retired after the 2022 World Cup. Maignan has impressed at club level as well, winning the Ligue 1 title with Lille in 2021 which earned him a move to AC Milan. The 29-year-old helped the Rossoneri to win the Serie A title in his first year at the club. He has since gone on to become captain of the Italian giants, but his future at the San Siro is in doubt. Jadon Sancho is facing an uncertain future in the summer transfer window after Chelsea's decision not to sign him permanently forced Manchester United to confront their previous mistakes Manchester United have been handed a serious problem after Chelsea refused to sign Jadon Sancho permanently, because he has no intention of ever playing for the club again. Sancho had appeared to be the most straightforward deal, with Chelsea lumbered with an obligation to buy the 25-year-old, only for the move to break down. He has now joined the list of other unwanted players United must find buyers for, which also includes fellow loanees Marcus Rashford and Antony, and wantaway winger Alejandro Garnacho. Keeping Sancho for the 2025/26 campaign under Amorim is not a viable option, with ESPN reporting that he has no intention of pulling the United shirt on again. His stance matches that of Amorim, who doesn't want him in his squad when the next season begins. Sancho returned five goals and 10 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea, helping them win the Conference League – a solid if unspectacular effort which won't help their efforts to sell him. The report states that there is tentative interest from West Ham, although Sancho's wages will be problematic. He has another year left on his contract with United, who are reluctant to buy out the winger in order to grease the wheels of his exit. Sancho has been a flop of significant proportions since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73m.
