Two fair workers jailed for child sex offences
Two men who targeted and groomed two teenage girls while working at Hull Fair last year have been jailed for child sex offences.
Ryan Edgar, 30, was sentenced to 20 years after being convicted of sexual activity with a child, rape, assault by penetration and two counts of assault.
Ashley Phillips-Dawson, 19, was jailed for five years after he was found guilty of assault and three counts of sexual activity with a child.
Edgar and Phillips-Dawson had both denied the offences but were convicted following a trial in November. They were sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday.
Jurors previously heard that Edgar and Phillips-Dawson had befriended the two young girls while working at the fair last October.
Edgar, of Park Street, Hull, made requests for the girls to send him nude pictures and convinced both girls to go back to his flat with him and Phillips-Dawson, of Topcliffe Garth, Hull.
The girls were reported missing but were later found at Edgar's flat, hiding in the bedroom, after he lied about them not being there.
The men were arrested on suspicion of rape.
It was later found that Edgar had taken one of the girls to his bedroom, pinned her down and raped her, while Phillips-Dawson sexually assaulted the second girl downstairs.
Both men also subjected the girls to assaults as well as forcing them to take cocaine, the court was told.
Det Con Megan O'Meara, who led the investigation, labelled the men as "sordid individuals" who "took advantage of two impressionable teenagers".
"I'd like to commend the two girls and their families for coming forward," she said.
"It's not easy to take that step and report sexual crimes in the first place, but then they had to relive the trauma through a trial after both men refused to admit their reprehensible crimes."

Hit-and-run accused 'likely' to deny murder charge
Two men accused of murdering a 16-year-old pedestrian in a hit-and-run are "highly likely" to deny the charge, a judge has said. Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Al Yazidi was hit by an Audi on Staniforth Road, in Darnall, Sheffield, on 4 June and later died in hospital. Zulkernain Ahmed, 20, and Armaan Ahmed, 26, both of Locke Drive in Sheffield, are each charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder. At Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, Judge Jeremy Richardson KC said he had been told they were "highly likely to plead not guilty" to murder, and set a potential trial date for 13 January 2026. No application for bail was made, with both men remanded into custody ahead of a further hearing on 3 October. South Yorkshire Police previously said it believed the Audi had driven towards three electric bikes and hit one rider - an 18-year-old man - who suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Abdullah's relatives said he had arrived in the UK from Yemen "for a better future" two or three months ago. The family said he was enjoying learning English ahead of starting at college in September. One relative, Saleh Alsirkal, said: "His dad brought him over to change his life, to get a better future for his son, but this has happened and destroyed everything." He said the teenager was a "kind boy" who just wanted to look after his family, including his three sisters. A 46-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and have both been bailed pending further inquiries, police said. County lines drug dealer jailed after police raids
A county lines drug dealer has been jailed after being caught with class A drugs during a police operation targeting suppliers and traffickers. Mohammed Fiaz, 40, of Newark Avenue in Peterborough, was caught during a dawn raid on his home as part of Operation Hypernova, a Cambridgeshire force-wide crackdown on county lines drug dealing and human trafficking. Police found three mobile phones, with messages linking him to dealing crack cocaine and heroin. At Peterborough Crown Court Fiaz admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine and on Tuesday was sentenced to 30 months in jail. Det Con Stacey Neve, said: "Fiaz was sending bulk messages to vulnerable users advertising crack cocaine and heroin for sale in order to pocket the cash. "We will continue to make the county hostile towards county lines drug dealers and prevent further exploitation of young and vulnerable people." Operation Hypernova 3 took place in March and resulted in 50 county lines being dismantled and 35 people charged with more than 100 drug and human trafficking offences, Cambridgeshire Police said.
