For back-to-back champ Panthers, the celebrations will continue before an important offseason begins

SUNRISE, Fla. — The Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup championship festivities have included an all-night celebration at a popular beach bar; crowd surfing, pole climbing and impromptu karaoke at a Miami nightclub; a Brad Marchand appearance at Dairy Queen; a few team dinners and a boat ride. HT Image
That's just so far. They insist they've got more in them.
'We're not toning it down," defenseman Aaron Ekblad said. "We just won two Stanley Cups in a row. We deserve to have a good time.'
The Panthers also partied hard after winning the franchise's first title a year ago. But some players have described those days as a surreal whirlwind of first-time experiences. This time around, the celebrations are different, as the reality of what they accomplished set in.
'There's a different feeling to it,' coach Paul Maurice said during the team's exit interviews on Saturday. 'Last year was more of a dream. ... That's the right word. It was a dream come true. It was euphoric. This year, it was an achievement. It was hard. It was hard all year. It was hard at camp. There were just so many places that if we had broken at that point or failed we would've all understood — 'OK, we did our best. We just couldn't get it done.' We never let that happen.'
The coaches' celebrations, Maurice noted, have been much more subdued compared to last year: They had their first post-championship dinner as a staff Friday night. They joined some players on a boat ride.
'I haven't had a hangover yet,' Maurice said, 'so way ahead of where I was last year.'
Maurice heard about his players' celebrations from his wife, who has shown him a few viral social media posts here and there.
Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov said they're giving themselves 'permission' to celebrate more freely this year because they have already been through the experience.
'And don't get me wrong, it's still amazing,' he added, 'but now everyone knows how to sit back a little and enjoy it, because last year was so hectic. Like it happened to you for the first time ever, and you had been dreaming about it for so long.'
The Panthers in fact celebrated so hard that the Stanley Cup itself got a little banged up. The silver chalice that has endured bumps and bruises throughout its 131-year existence was cracked at the bottom of the bowl the night of Florida's clinching Game 6 win over Edmonton, though Barkov noted the team hasn't received any harsh reprimands from the keepers of the Cup or the Hockey Hall of Fame.
'I think they've seen worse,' he quipped. 'I think every year they have to fix some part of it. But yeah, don't be stupid. Don't take it to the ocean, stuff like that. We should know the rules by now.'
The Panthers' championship parade will be on Fort Lauderdale Beach on Sunday — one of their last opportunities to celebrate together before the players disperse for the summer and general manager Bill Zito begins an important offseason.
Free agency begins July 1, and while a good chunk of Florida's core — including Barkov and stars Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Reinhart — are already under long-term contracts, a few key contributors are set for free agency in Marchand, Ekblad and playoff MVP Sam Bennett.
All three players have expressed their desire to stay in Florida.
Bennett, who led all players with 15 postseason goals, said at the Miami nightclub E11even that he's not leaving. Marchand has publicly petitioned Zito to give him a contract.
Ekblad, who was drafted by the Panthers in 2014, said Saturday that his representation has had conversations with the Panthers on a potential deal, but 'nothing material yet.'
'I've spent 11 years here,' Ekblad said. 'It's home, and I expect it to be home."
Tkachuk, who will play in his fourth season with the Panthers next year, said he believes Florida's window to compete for titles remains wide open, and he hopes to compete with as many pieces from this year's run as possible.
'You're going to have a different roster each and every year," he said, "but hopefully the core of guys, we can continue building. With that being said, we've got some unbelievable players that are up for contracts that I hope they get every single cent they can because that's what you want for your best friends. It's time to cash in for some of those boys. Hopefully it's here.'

Panthers' Stanley Cup celebrations show no signs of slowing while looming offseason decisions stir up speculation

The Florida Panthers have spent the days following their second straight Stanley Cup win living like rockstars—and they're not apologizing for it. From dancing on tables to karaoke at a buzzing Miami nightclub, from a beach bar blowout to crowd surfing and even a Brad Marchand Dairy Queen cameo, the celebrations have been loud, wild, and well-earned. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'We're not toning it down,' said veteran defenseman Aaron Ekblad. 'We just won two Stanley Cups in a row. We deserve to have a good time.' As Panthers celebrate again, pressure mounts on management to navigate vital offseason moves While last year's title run felt like a euphoric, dreamlike experience for the team, this season's journey was more grounded, more grueling—and therefore more satisfying. Panthers coach Paul Maurice captured the shift in tone, saying, 'Last year was more of a dream. … It was a dream come true. It was euphoric. This year, it was an achievement. It was hard.' Indeed, Maurice emphasized how close the team came to breaking under pressure at various points. Yet each time, they found a way to hold strong. The sense of accomplishment has added a new layer to their celebrations—more reflection, a little more calm, but no less joy. Maurice himself admitted his post-win festivities have been dialed back. 'I haven't had a hangover yet,' he joked, 'so way ahead of where I was last year.' Still, the players have been going all out. Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov believes the team feels more comfortable celebrating this year because they know what to expect. 'Now everyone knows how to sit back a little and enjoy it,' he said. 'Last year was so hectic.' The team's exuberance even left a mark on the Stanley Cup—literally. The bowl cracked at the base during the victory night chaos. But Barkov shrugged it off. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'I think they've seen worse. … Don't be stupid. Don't take it to the ocean.' As the celebrations wrap up with a parade on Fort Lauderdale Beach, attention now turns to an offseason filled with tough decisions. NHL free agency begins July 1. While core stars like Barkov, Matthew Tkachuk, and Sam Reinhart are locked in, key figures like Sam Bennett, Ekblad, and Marchand await new deals. 'I've spent 11 years here,' said Ekblad. 'It's home, and I expect it to be home.' Tkachuk added, 'Hopefully the core of guys, we can continue building… It's time to cash in for some of those boys. Hopefully it's here.' Also Read:

Elliotte Friedman offers insider scoop on what Sam Bennett could demand in NHL free agency

Sam Bennett hints at staying with Panthers as Elliotte Friedman reveals potential contract details (Getty Images) Florida Panthers forward Sam Bennett may not have signed the dotted line yet, but he left little to the imagination when it comes to his NHL future. During the team's wild Stanley Cup celebration at Miami's E11EVEN nightclub, the 2024 Conn Smythe Trophy winner grabbed the mic and made his intentions crystal clear in a crowd-pumping moment that quickly made headlines: 'I ain't F---ng leaving!' Elliotte Friedman teases Sam Bennett's possible price tag ahead of NHL free agency frenzy The explosive declaration came just over a week before Bennett is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, pending any pre-deadline contract extension with Florida. Though the veteran center sounded confident and committed, the reality is that no agreement has been made official yet. Bennett's agent, Darren Ferris, quickly addressed the rumors, clarifying, 'At this time, no contract has been signed. When there's something official, we'll share it accordingly.' That statement did little to quiet the buzz but confirmed that fans will have to wait a bit longer for pen to meet paper. Still, signs point to a likely reunion. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, discussions are heating up between Bennett's camp and the Panthers. Speaking on SN 590, Friedman reported that negotiations are centering around a long-term extension in the $7.5 to $8 million average annual value (AAV) range. Adding to his analysis in his 32 Thoughts column, Friedman wrote, 'As the sun rose, everyone was pumping the brakes on Bennett extension talk, warning not to take such liquified announcements too seriously. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo It's hard to believe he'd make such a bold proclamation without knowing where this was going, but nothing's done until it is done.' What's reassuring for Panthers fans is that General Manager Bill Zito seems determined to retain his top stars. During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Zito emphasized, 'We're going to spend to the cap… The Viola family ownership has empowered us to try to do everything we can to have the best team we can. So we're going to spend it all.' That statement aligns with Florida's goal of keeping its core intact — not just Bennett, but also other high-profile free agents like Brad Marchand and Aaron Ekblad. As July 1 approaches, the expectation is clear: Sam Bennett wants to stay, the Panthers want him back, and all that's left is turning intent into ink. Also Read: Contract extension on the cards?
