ASCOT, England (AP) — On a sun-kissed day showcasing elegance and fashion at Royal Ascot, Trawlerman turned on the style to win the signature Gold Cup by seven lengths on Thursday.
Jockey William Buick rode the favorite to victory in the top race of the week and earned a first prize of $500,000 for Trawlerman's owner, the Dubai-based Godolphin operation.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla handed out the Gold Cup and medals after the race to Buick, trainer John Gosden and members of Godolphin.
Trawlerman was second to the now-retired Kyprios in the Gold Cup last year but went one better.
It was Ladies' Day at the royal meeting, meaning there was a display of towering and sometimes outlandish hats from racegoers in sweltering temperatures.

MIAMI (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies moved right-hander Aaron Nola to the 60-day injured list on Thursday, a week after he injured his ribcage while trying to work himself back from a sprained right ankle. Nola had been out since early May with the ankle injury. He experienced stiffness in his right side last week in Toronto that wiped out a planned session against live batters, and an MRI showed a stress reaction in his right ribcage. Nola, who is in the second season of a seven-year, $172 million contract, is 105-86 with a 3.78 ERA in 11 seasons with the Phillies, making six straight opening day starts from 2018-23. He was 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA in nine starts this year before injuring his ankle on May 8 during pregame agility drills. The Phillies selected the contract of infielder Buddy Kennedy from Triple-A Lehigh Valley before Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins and optioned infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson to the IronPigs. Kennedy, 26, is batting .283 with eight homers and 40 RBIs in 61 games for Lehigh Valley this season and was the International League Player of the Month for May. In 54 major league games over three seasons with the Diamondbacks, Tigers and Phillies, he has batted .203 with two homers and 19 RBIs. Wilson batted .194 with one home run and 4 RBIs in 22 games for the Phillies this season.

Palmeiras benefits from own goal, López scores for 2-0 defeat of Al-Ahly in Club World Cup
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Palmeiras benefited from an own goal by Al-Ahly's Wessam Abou Ali and secured a 2-0 win on a shot by José López before thunderstorms stalled play in the Club World Cup match at Met Life Stadium on Thursday. Both the Brazilian Palmeiras and Egyptian Al-Ahly clubs had opportunities after the restart from a 30-minute weather delay, but Al-Ahly could not overcome its defensive struggles. Abou Ali headed the ball into his own net just minutes into the second half. The goal started an offensive surge for Palmeiras, which broke away in the 59th minute for López's goal. He kicked a left-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner, with an assist from Maurício. Weather delayed the match a couple of minutes later. The approximately 35,000 fans in attendance were ordered to take shelter before they returned to their seats for the restart. Four yellow cards were handed out in the first half. Palmeiras' Raphael Veiga received a red in the 38th minute, but it was downgraded to yellow following a VAR check. Agustin Giay was also called for a yellow. Yahya Attiat Allah and Hamdy Fathy received cards for Al-Ahly. López's break-away goal ensured the win for the Brazilian team. Coach Ime Udoka agrees to a contract extension with the Houston Rockets, AP source says
Associated Press HOUSTON (AP) — Coach Ime Udoka has agreed to a contract extension with the Houston Rockets, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Thursday. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal hadn't been announced. No details on the terms of the contract were available. The move comes after Udoka led the Rockets to the second-best record in the Western Conference this season and their first playoff berth since the 2019-20 season. Houston made a remarkable turnaround in his two seasons in charge after being among the worst teams in the NBA the three seasons before his hiring. The Rockets, who won just 42 games combined in the two seasons before Udoka was hired, went 41-41 in his first season before going 52-30 this season for their first winning record since 2019-20. Houston lost to the Golden State Warriors in seven games in the first round of the playoffs this season. Udoka led the Boston Celtics to the NBA Finals in 2022, then was suspended for the following season after the disclosure of an inappropriate relationship with a female Celtics employee.
