Two Memphis-area attractions are closed after record breaking rainfall
As the Mid-South recovers from five days of severe weather and heavy rainfall, some Memphis-area attractions are closed, dealing with floodwaters and repairs from the storms.
The National Civil Right's Museum, located in the South Main area of Downtown Memphis, has closed its doors Sunday and Monday for repairs, according to a bulletin on its website.
Shelby Farms Park shut its gates on Sunday, April 6 due to "extreme flooding," according to their Facebook page. The Sunday closure followed an early closure on Saturday due to "rising water levels and continued rainfall."
The park announced they would have a delayed opening on Monday to "allow operation teams to assess conditions" at Shelby Farms.
Between Wednesday and Sunday, NWS Memphis recorded 14.07 inches of rain in East Memphis. Here's what it recorded across the Mid-South during that time period:
Memphis International Airport: 12.35 inches of rain
West Memphis: 10 inches of rain
Jonesboro, Arkansas: 8.75 inches of rain
Blytheville, Arkansas: 8.41 inches of rain
Tupelo, Mississippi: 2.66 inches of rain

Heavy rains bring major flooding to Dallas-area roadway
The Brief At least one major Dallas road was flooded after heavy rainfall. Further severe weather alerts are in effect early Wednesday. DALLAS - A busy Dallas-area road was seen deep underwater around midnight on Tuesday after rounds of heavy rain pushed through North Texas. FOX 4 crews found a section of I-35 East under deep water following the storms. What we know Reports just before midnight said cars on I-35 East were in water up to their windows on the road. One report said cars traveling north on I-35 were stuck at a standstill in water up to vehicles' frames. The standing water came shortly after flash flood warnings were issued for Dallas County and surrounding areas. The warning was issued until 2 a.m. Wednesday. What we don't know At the time of reporting, officials had not provided comment on road conditions in the area. It's not known what other roads may be affected by the flooding. In the midst of severe weather warnings throughout the area from Tuesday afternoon through the early hours of Wednesday, torrential rain was seen in the north Dallas County areas, including Addison, Garland, and Plano. Isolated, short-lived tornado warnings were issued in some counties within the FOX 4 viewing area. As of now, tornadoes have not been reported, nor has severe weather damage. What you can do Anyone in areas where severe weather is expected over the coming hours is urged to remain indoors or within other shelters until the threat has passed. Portions of several freeways in metro Phoenix will close this weekend: What to know
A few closures and lane restrictions were scheduled for the weekend due to improvement projects along parts of Phoenix-area freeways, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The right lanes of the east and westbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) will be closed near 51st Avenue all weekend while the westbound Loop 202 was scheduled to be closed May 31 between Gilbert and Cooper roads. The northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) ramp to westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) was expected to be closed overnight June 1 to June 2. Drivers should allow extra travel time and plan on using detours as needed, ADOT said. Schedules were subject to change due to inclement weather or other factors, ADOT said. Motorists can check the AZ511 app or call 511 to see real-time highway conditions. Here's what you need to know about traffic closures from May 30 through June 2. The right lanes near 51st Avenue will be closed 10 p.m. May 30 to 5 a.m. June 2 for bridge work, ADOT confirmed. Plan for 51st Avenue to be closed in both directions at Loop 101. Detours: Consider using other nearby cross streets including 35th or 59th avenues. Westbound Loop 202 will be closed between Gilbert and Cooper roads from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 31 for work on a widening project, ADOT said.
