PTI concerned over delay in hearing of IK's cases
LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab on Wednesday raised concerns over the delay in the hearing of cases against PTI founder Imran Khan, saying the trials were being intentionally stalled.
It noted that once again, hearings in two fabricated cases against Chairman Imran Khan have been postponed; the proceedings, originally scheduled for this week, have now been adjourned for 20 days until July 1st.
'This calculated delay appears to serve two purposes: first, to limit Khan's ability to engage in political consultations related to the planned protest movement; and second, to push the matter into the judicial recess beginning July 1, which will halt court proceedings until August. This effectively ensures that Khan remains incarcerated without trial for an extended period,' it claimed.
According to the PTI Punjab, the pattern is clear, false cases are filed, only to have their trials intentionally stalled. Lawyers are made unavailable, judges are conveniently on leave, and justice is obstructed at every turn. Those orchestrating these cases know well that a fair trial would see them dismissed as baseless. Since the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the judiciary has been rendered ineffective, turning the legal system into a mockery. Despite our repeated efforts to seek justice through the courts, we continue to face disappointment.
It warned that by restricting legal avenues, the system is pushing them towards the streets; if justice cannot be served in courtrooms they are prepared to seek it elsewhere.

He criticized the Punjab government for what he called "destroying farmers, labourers, traders and industrialists". PTI leader Alamgir Khan said the way PTI founder Imran Khan is being treated, Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav was not. "We have no other option but to take recourse to road protests and peaceful resistance," said Alamgir Khan, adding, "We won't refrain from waging a peaceful struggle." He said the PTI leaders were not allowed to meet Imran Khan. It made a new chapter of fascism. It is all happening after the passage of the 26 Amendment. The party leaders, family members and lawyers are being denied access to the imprisoned PTI founder. Later, the PTI leaders returned peacefully from the prison facility.

Punjab becomes first province to implement child policy: CM
LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Punjab has become the first province to implement child protection policy for the safe future of children. She highlighted, 'Punjab is ensuring the protection of children's rights by establishing the first Virtual Child Safety Station.' The Chief Minister in her message on the World Day Against Child Labour said, 'Child labour is absolutely intolerable, children are my red line. In today's era, incidents of child labour are a colossal tragedy for humanity. Forced child labour is a moment of grave concern for the conscious citizens of the society.' She highlighted, 'Children should have pens, books and laptops in their hands instead of tools and bricks. Children who are forced to bear the burden of forced child labour at a tender age instead of holding a pen in their hands is a big question mark for every civilized society.' She outlined, 'If the childhood of an innocent child is not protected, the society will be deprived of useful citizens in times to come. I deem child labour not just a problem as it will put at stake bright future of our coming generations. Effective steps are being taken to eliminate child labour.' The CM emphasized, 'The Punjab government is taking effective measures against child labour. They are being freed from forced labour and are driven towards attaining education. 2014 sit-in: MWM chief acquitted
ISLAMABAD: A local court on Thursday acquitted Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan (MWM) Chief Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri in cases registered against him and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan in connection with the 2014 sit-in. Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas, while hearing the case, acquitted the MWM Chief after completion of the arguments over the acquittal application. A case had been registered against Raja Nabsir Abbas, PTI founding chairman, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri and others for violating Section 144. The court had already issued an arrest warrant for Qadri for not appearing before the court. Khan had been granted a permanent exemption from appearance in these cases by the court. Two cases have been registered against Khan and others at the Secretariat Police Station. PTI and PAT staged a sit-in in Islamabad back in August 2014. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
