has officially announced his retirement from all forms of the game.
A veteran of the sport, Chawla's journey has been marked by early promise, notable comebacks, and contributions to India's most iconic cricketing triumphs: the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.

Chawla's statement on Friday reflected deep gratitude and emotion, as he thanked his family,
IPL
franchises, and fans.
He credited his late father for being the guiding force behind his career, saying his support laid the foundation for a path that saw Chawla go from bowling out legends like Sachin Tendulkar at just 17, to delivering match-winning spells on the world stage.
Making his India debut as a teenager, Chawla impressed early on with a clever mix of googlies and quicker deliveries.
He played three Tests, 25 ODIs, and seven T20Is for India, with career-best figures of 4/23 in ODIs.
His international appearances might have been limited, but his impact in domestic and franchise cricket was immense.
With 446 first-class wickets and 319 T20 wickets, Chawla remained a consistent performer for Uttar Pradesh and various IPL teams, including Kolkata Knight Riders, where he won the title in 2012 and 2014.

Asian champion Jyothi Yarraji won the women's 100m hurdles race with yet another impressive time as four Indians won gold in the Taiwan Athletics Open here on Saturday. National record holder Yarraji clocked 12.99 seconds to pocket the gold at the Taipei Municipal Stadium, ahead of Japanese runners Asuka Terada (13.04 seconds) and Chisato Kiyoyama (13.10 seconds), who took the silver and bronze respectively. The 25-year-old Yarraji had won gold in the Asian Championships in South Korea on May 29 with a time of 12.96 seconds. Indian archery experienced a disappointing outcome at Stage 3 of the World Cup on Saturday, failing to secure any medals. This performance has raised serious concerns about team selection, preparation, and mental resilience, particularly with the Asian Games approaching in a year. The success in Shanghai last month, where India ranked second in the medal tally with two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals, now appears distant. In Antalya, both recurve and compound archers underperformed, failing to achieve a single podium finish, even in their traditionally strong compound category. Following the compound archers' elimination in both individual and team events, the recurve results proved equally disappointing. Even seasoned archers like four-time Olympians Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai failed to progress to the medal rounds. Simranjeet Kaur demonstrated some resilience, pushing Korean Olympic gold medallist An San to a shoot-off in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Despite narrowly qualifying in 54th place with the third-lowest qualification score, she held a 5-3 lead and required just one point to secure victory against An San.
