Chandigarh: A powerful explosive device, seized from gangsters linked to notorious
Happy Passia terror module
, was successfully defused by the Indian Army's bomb disposal unit from Chandimandir, authorities confirmed on Saturday. The 2 kg
improvised explosive device
(IED), which was recovered earlier this week by Chandigarh Police from Sector 39 during the arrest of two suspects, was safely dismantled in a controlled detonation carried out beyond city limits.
The operation, led by the Western Command, followed stringent safety protocols to minimise any potential risk to public safety. The suspects, identified as Joban Jit Singh alias Billa and Sumandeep alias Simma, were allegedly operating under the direction of gangster-turned-terrorist Happy Passia.
Initial investigations suggest the IED may have contained RDX and had the potential to inflict severe damage, although the exact target of the planned attack remains unclear.Following the arrests, local police secured the explosive at a restricted location while awaiting support from military specialists. The bomb squad later determined that storing the device posed too great a risk, prompting an urgent call for immediate disposal.Post-detonation, remnants of the device were handed over to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for detailed analysis. Authorities continue to investigate the broader network behind the plot and have heightened surveillance across the region in response to the incident. MSID:: 121061948 413 |

Activist files police complaint against Siddaramaiah, seeks action under Sec. 132 of BNS

Belagavi-based activist Bheemappa Gundappa Gadad has filed a complaint against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah saying that he (Siddaramaiah) tried to assault a senior police officer in Belagavi on April 28. Mr. Gadad filed the complaint at the Camp Police Station on Thursday. He accused Mr. Siddaramaiah of intimidating, insulting and trying to assault Additional Superintendent of Police, Dharwad, Narayan Baramani, who was on duty during a Congress rally in Belagavi. The Chief Minister was upset that the police were unable to prevent a protest by some women activists from the BJP, as they raised black flags and also slogans against the Chief Minister and asked him to 'Go to Pakistan'. The Chief Minister raised his hand in anger and tried to strike Mr. Baramani. The officer took a step back while on stage. The complainant asked the local police to act against the Chief Minister under Section 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging duty). Mr. Gadad attached a compact disc of a video clip of the incident. He said that he will complain to the National Human Rights Commission against the Chief Minister.

Trump hails troop deployment as California readies legal battle

LOS ANGELES: US President Donald Trump said Thursday that Los Angeles was "safe and sound" for the past two nights, crediting his deployment of thousands of troops to quell anti-deportation protests, as California prepared for a legal showdown over his unprecedented move. With protests spreading across the United States, a night-time curfew has been in place in its second-largest city with authorities tackling vandalism and looting that scarred a few city blocks. "Our great National Guard, with a little help from the Marines, put the L.A. Police in a position to effectively do their job," Trump said on Truth Social, adding that without the military the city "would be a crime scene like we haven't seen in years." The mostly peaceful protests ignited last week over an escalation in efforts to apprehend migrants in the country illegally, but there were also pockets of violence, including the burning of self-driving taxis and hurling stones at police. Trump deployed several thousand National Guard troops and 700 active-duty marines over the objections of Democratic California governor Gavin Newsom, the first such action by a US president in decades. Trump charged that the governor "had totally lost control of the situation." "He should be saying THANK YOU for saving his ass, instead of trying to justify his mistakes and incompetence," Trump added. In Spokane, in the northwest state of Washington, another night curfew was declared after police arrested more than 30 protesters and fired pepper balls to disperse crowds, officials said. In Seattle, Washington state's biggest city, police arrested eight people after a dumpster was set on fire and projectiles were thrown. Three people were arrested in Tucson, Arizona, following clashes with police, the Arizona Republic reported. Protests also took place in Las Vegas, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Chicago, Atlanta, and Boston, according to CNN.

Madeswaran (52), and R. Ramesh (54), all residents of Arachalur in Erode district. A goldsmith, Gyanasekaran of Chennimalai Palayam, who had melted the stolen jewellery and returned it to the accused, was also arrested. Based on a recommendation by Superintendent of Police A. Sujatha, Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara ordered the detention of the three under the Goondas Act. Detention notices were served on them at Coimbatore Central Prison.
