Ukraine says Russian drones hit port town next to Romania
(Reuters) -Russian forces launched a drone attack overnight that targeted a Ukrainian town on the border with NATO member Romania, Ukrainian officials said on Friday.
The attack hit the town of Izmail, Ukraine's biggest port on the Danube river, which is important for critical imports and which lies across the river from Romania.
A post office branch was destroyed in the drone attack, regional Governor Oleh Kiper said.
He reported no casualties.
Reuters could not independently verify the report. There was no immediate comment from Russia.
Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war that Russia started with its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than three years ago.

Airlangga, who met U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of an OECD meeting in Paris, said Indonesia hopes that a 'mature and measured' approach can open space for it to build a strong and long-term partnership with the U.S. As part of the negotiation, the government has said it wants to increase U.S. energy imports by about $10 billion, including purchases of U.S. fuel, crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas. Indonesia received shipments of U.S. goods worth $26.3 billion in 2024, according to government data. The main Indonesian exports to the U.S. include electronics, apparel and clothing, and footwear.

Russia's economy minister calls for ‘timely' rate cut to boost growth
MOSCOW: Russia's economy minister Maxim Reshetnikov said on Tuesday that the central bank should ease monetary policy in a timely manner in order to achieve growth of 3%, a target set by President Vladimir Putin. Reshetnikov's comments came before the central bank reviews its key interest rate on June 6. A Reuters poll of 26 economists has predicted that the regulator will keep the key rate on hold at 21%. Economists expect Russian economic growth to slow to 1.5% in 2025 from 4.3% last year. The government forecasts 2.5% GDP growth this year. 'The current task is to navigate the cooling-off period. We are counting on a timely easing of monetary policy to maintain the targeted 3% growth rate outlined by the president in the future,' Reshetnikov said. The minister said that output was falling in an increasing number of real economy sectors while a slowdown in lending was hitting demand for engineering products, special equipment, freight transport, light commercial vehicles and buses. The central bank is under pressure from businesses to start cutting the key rate. However Governor Elvira Nabiullina has resisted the pressure, arguing that the bank needs to see a sustainable disinflationary trend before it can begin to ease rates.
