Duke beats Oklahoma State 12-5 at the Athens Regional as the teams combine for 7 home runs
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Wallace Clark and Sam Harris each had three hits, Owen Proksch struck out eight in six innings and Duke beat Oklahoma State 12-5 on Friday night at the Athens Regional in a game delayed for over three hours due to weather.
Duke (38-19) will play Georgia on Saturday in the winner's bracket. Oklahoma State (28-24) takes on Binghampton in an elimination game.
The game featured seven home runs — four by the Cowboys.
Ben Miller hit his 19th homer of the year — and Duke's 100th — to begin a six-run third inning. Tyler Albright and Jake Berger also hit homers in the inning for a 9-0 lead.
Duke had the bases loaded in the fifth before Jake Hyde tripled to score three for a 12-1 lead.
Proksch (3-3) allowed just three hits and two earned runs in six innings — with four strikeouts coming in the first two innings. Reid Easterly struck out the side in the ninth.
Oklahoma State had the bases loaded in the third and seventh innings but could not push a run across. Proksch struck out Jayson Jones to end the first threat and Miller secured a slow roller to third and fired to first for a double play.
Oklahoma State starter Mario Pesca (7-3) allowed nine earned runs in three innings.
Kollin Ritchie, Garrett Shull, Ian Daugherty and Brock Thompson all homered for the Cowboys.

French Open: Iga Swiatek comes back to beat Elena Rybakina and extend bid for a 4th title in a row
PARIS (AP) — Iga Swiatek turned things around at Roland-Garros after dropping eight of the first nine games against 12th-seeded Elena Rybakina in the fourth round Sunday, putting together a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory to extend her bid for a record fourth consecutive French Open championship. The big-serving and hard-hitting Rybakina — who won Wimbledon in 2022 — got off to a stunning start, leading 5-0 after less than 20 minutes and grabbing 24 of the initial 32 points. She was responsible for 10 of the match's first 12 winners. 'I needed to do something to get back in the match and, honestly, with her playing like that, I didn't have a lot of hope,' Swiatek said afterward. There was more of the same early in the second set, when Rybakina went up a break — Swiatek double-faulted to close the first game, then turned to her team in the stands with her palms up and said something — and led 2-0. That, though, is when Swiatek suddenly transformed back into what she's been so often in recent seasons, but not over the past 12 months: a seemingly invincible force on red clay who has won four of the past five titles at the French Open, where she is now 39-2 for her career. She carried a 24-match tournament winning streak into Sunday and a chance to become the first woman in the Open era, which began in 1968, to win the Roland-Garros trophy four years in a row. That certainly seemed in danger at the outset in Court Philippe-Chatrier, where Swiatek had trouble dealing with Rybakina's power and repeatedly was forced into errors. Given the rough stretch since June 2024 for Swiatek, a 23-year-old from Poland, maybe it would not have been entirely shocking for her to take a loss Sunday. After all, Swiatek hasn't reached the final of any event since earning the trophy in Paris a year ago and has slid from No. 1 to No. 5 in the WTA rankings. That rut includes a surprising exit in the semifinals at the 2024 Summer Olympics, which were contested at Roland-Garros; she ended up with the bronze medal. Then, later last season, she was banned for a total of one month after testing positive for a banned substance; her explanation was accepted that the result was unintentional and caused by a contaminated medicine. Doué's sensational Champions League performance for PSG launches him into a new dimension
PARIS (AP) — Translate Désiré Doué's name into English and you get the words 'coveted' and 'gifted.' Both seem highly appropriate, considering how the 19-year-old's stunning performance for Paris Saint-Germain in Saturday's Champions League final launched him into soccer's stratosphere, making Doué a player every team would love to have. Doué scored with two clinical finishes in a 5-0 rout of Inter Milan after setting up PSG's first goal with a remarkable piece of close control. Controlling the ball on his left foot and spinning in one swift movement inside the penalty area, he then effortlessly switched feet and passed with his right to Achraf Hakimi. 'I really don't have the words to describe how I feel. What we did is magical. We showed we are a great side collectively,' said Doué, who turns 20 on Tuesday. 'There are a lot of young players in the side who still need to improve, I am among them.' Doué improving is quite a scary thought, given how good he already is. A game-changing ability When Doué joined PSG from Rennes for around 50 million euros ($55 million) in the offseason, it appeared a hefty fee for an unproven young player. Except for the fans who closely followed Ligue 1, he was largely unknown in France and beyond. Furthermore, his return of eight goals in 76 games hardly suggested he would become a dangerous scorer. But Rennes is one of the best youth academies in European soccer. Doué's PSG teammate Ousmane Dembélé came through the ranks there as did Mathys Tel before joining Bayern Munich. PSG coach Luis Enrique, who coached Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar when Barcelona won the Champions League in 2015, saw a game-changing ability in Doué. He was proved right. Doué's emergence in the second part of the season saw him take goal-scoring winger Bradley Barcola's place in the starting lineup. It also coincided with PSG's revival in the Champions League after a difficult group stage where the club lost to Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Bayern. Doué held his nerve in the penalty shootout win against Liverpool in March, scoring the decisive kick in emphatic style to send PSG into the quarterfinals. Later that month, he also scored for France in a penalty shootout win in the Nations League. Doué kept improving in the big games Doué equalized in the quarterfinal first leg against Aston Villa in Paris and scored five goals in the competition. Overall he scored 15 goals for PSG this season, including spectacular curlers from outside the penalty area with his right foot. His silky close control, allied to an ability to wrong-foot defenders, made him a vital part of PSG's intricate approach play, particularly in confined spaces. His unorthodox dribbling is often brilliant, but does not always come off, so he reigned it in. 'I sometimes overdo it a bit, but I try to keep my personality. When you play, you know there are areas where you have to build, release the ball, and others where you have more freedom,' Doué said. 'I analyze my matches and my training sessions a lot. I try to always maintain my discipline, and I hope that will take me to the very, very high level.'
