Crime victim curtails defendants early probation
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A victim of a crime in Trumbull County has filed her own appeal that has stalled a defendant's early release from probation.
According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, the 11th District Court of Appeals in Trumbull County reversed the decision of a county court judge who granted Cyler Reed, of Hubbard, early termination of his probation.
During a hearing on September 5, 2024, Reed's probation was discharged after serving two of his five-year sentence. The victim was denied the chance to address the court during that hearing and was given a second chance at a hearing on September 25, but she did not show up, so the probation termination stood, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office.
Under Mary's Law, the victim is allowed to challenge the order through a direct appeal, which they did, so now the case goes back to the county where another hearing will be held on Reed's early probation termination and the victim will be heard.
The case surrounds a 2021 incident where Reed kicked in the door of the victim's home, searched through rooms carrying a stun gun, and told the victim that their son had a warrant for failure to appear in Newton Falls court.
Cyler was arrested and charged with burglary, criminal damaging, menacing and trespass into a habitation. The burglary charge was dropped, and he was subsequently sentenced to five years of probation.
The next event in the case is scheduled for May 9.

The driver was convulsing and vomiting, but thanks to Reedbravery, she survived. 'This lady was having a seizure while driving, and the Lord gave me the strength to stop her vehicle before an accident occurred,' Reed later shared. 'Lord, I thank you for putting me in this position this morning.' Reed's mother added a touching detail — Zion was born weighing just 1 lb. 14 oz. 'We knew he was going to be special,' she said. In an emotional message sent to WRBL, the woman whose life was saved personally thanked both men. She said she is grateful beyond words and overwhelmed by their courage, saying she may not be alive today if not for their actions. Local Nintendo Switch 2 orders not delivered, Boardman police investigating
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — Police are investigating after numerous Nintendo Switch 2 orders placed with a local Walmart were allegedly not delivered. Read next: Fugitive of the Week known to be in local area Boardman Police were called to the Walmart location at 1300 Doral Drive just before 11 a.m. Saturday for reports of a theft. When police arrived, a loss prevention employee for the store told officers that numerous people had ordered the new Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle online for local delivery via Spark Driver, a delivery service introduced by Walmart. At 6:14 a.m., reports state the Spark Driver arrived at the store and collected 14 orders for local delivery. However, only one of those deliveries was fulfilled, according to reports. At about 8:44 a.m., the driver initiated returns, which signals that the deliveries were not completed and the product should be returned to the store, according to reports. The loss prevention employee told police they never received those products. When employees attempted to get in contact with the driver, reports state they were initially told the driver had been involved in an accident and was taken to the hospital. Employees called police later in the morning on Saturday, after claiming they were unable to make further contact with the driver. But when police looked into the matter, reports state that there were no reported accidents involving the driver or their registered vehicle. BMV warns Ohioans of scam texts
(WKBN) — Warnings have been going out about highway and turnpike toll text scams, and now another text scam involves the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). People have been reporting to the BMV text messages from someone claiming to be from the agency and saying that the recipient of the message has an outstanding traffic ticket. The text then instructs the recipient to pay the ticket immediately to avoid a license suspension. The BMV says this is a phishing attempt to get your personal information and has been reported by drivers nationwide. 'If you receive this text, do not fall for this scam,' said Ohio BMV Registrar Charlie Norman. 'Do not click any links and delete the text. Ohio BMV will never send you a text demanding payment or requesting your personal information.'
