Springboks connection has South Africa primed for WTC25 Final

Kolisi led the Springboks to a second consecutive World Cup title later that year in France with a thrilling one-point victory over the All Blacks and Conrad wants his team to use the same mentality when they take on the ever-powerful Australian side at Lord's next month.
Conrad knows the Aussies are the reigning World Test Championship winners and have a wealth of experience in all facets of the game, but believes his team are capable of rising to the occasion and delivering a first ICC trophy for South Africa since they claimed the ICC Champions Trophy back in 1998.
'I don't care if they've got more caps. I care that KG (Rabada), Marco (Jansen), and Temba (Bavuma) believe they can win. That's the only stat I need," Conrad said.
'Just being there is a blessing, but I'm not going to admire the paintings. I'm going to win."
South Africa squad: Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma (c), David Bedingham, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Dane Paterson, Keshav Maharaj, Senuran Muthusamy.

Hazlewood's return fuels Bengaluru's IPL title dream

Questions about Josh Hazlewood's fitness were posed repeatedly at Royal Challengers Bengaluru's press conferences ahead of their Indian Premier League playoff and the Australian showed on Thursday why there was so much interest in his availability. Returning to action after spending a month on the sidelines recovering from a shoulder injury, Hazlewood helped put Bengaluru on the cusp of a first IPL title with figures of 3-21 against Punjab Kings. Three-times runners-up Bengaluru bundled out Punjab for 101 and then chased down the target in 10 overs to book their place in Tuesday's final. On a pitch that offered swing and bounce, Hazlewood took the key wickets of fellow Australian Josh Inglis and rival captain Shreyas Iyer, blows which Punjab never really recovered from. "The bowling unit was obviously back to the unit that bowled for most of the tournament, and again, we knew our roles really well," Hazlewood told reporters after their eight-wicket win. "There was a little bit of seam movement, the bounce was probably a little bit inconsistent, so we sort of utilised that as best as we could." Hazlewood's 21 wickets from 11 games make him the third highest wicket-taker this season behind Noor Ahmed (24) and Prasidh Krishna (23), both of whom have played three games more than the Australian. On Mullanpur's spicy wicket, a target of around 150 could have proved tricky, said Hazlewood. "They probably just had to pull back a little bit and try and get a score on the board, you know, 150-160 would have been a difficult chase potentially," he added. "But I think we only let them bat as well as they could have, through our bowling." The lively wicket also meant Hazlewood did not have to push his body to the limit on his return from injury. "The wicket helped obviously, I didn't have to bowl any fast yorkers or anything like that, so yeah, it's feeling not too bad."

Bumrah positive India can counter ‘ultra-aggressive' England

India and England will lock horns in a five-Test match series, marking the beginning of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship cycle . Bumrah, currently part of the Mumbai Indians squad for the Indian Premier League, is among the experienced campaigners who feature in India's Test squad against England, especially after the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Jasprit Bumrah on his multiple ICC honours for an incredible 2024 | ICC Awards An elated Jasprit Bumrah speaks on the privilege of being honoured with multiple ICC awards for his incredible 2024 🤩 #ICCAwards The 31-year-old, who was phenomenal with the ball during India's previous Test assignment in Australia, is eager to take on the challenge of playing in English conditions. 'Playing in England is always a different challenge, I always love bowling with the Dukes ball,' Bumrah said in a conversation with Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. 'The weather, the swinging conditions sometimes, and then when the ball becomes soft, there's always a challenge. So I always look forward to playing in England.' The seasoned pacer added that in Ben Stokes' England side, a unique challenge awaits India. "They're playing an interesting style of cricket which is interesting because I don't really understand it too much. "But as a bowling unit, we always feel confident that when the batters are being ultra-aggressive, on a given day, anybody could run through and get wickets." India and England will kickstart the five-match series on 20 June with the first Test in Headingley. With cricket set to make a big return at the Summer Olympics, Bumrah also has his sights set on making an appearance at Los Angeles 2028. "Obviously, it is tough for any individual to keep playing everything for so long," he said. "I've been doing it for a while, but eventually you have to understand where your body is going, what is the important tournament. "You have to be a little selective and smart about how you use your body. As a cricketer, I would never want to leave anything and always keep on going. But I don't set goals or look at numbers. whenever I have [set goals], I've never been able to fulfil them. 'Yes, you have to be selective. Now I've heard there's Olympics in cricket coming as well. So that is something that I'm looking forward to. Who would've thought cricket will become an Olympic sport?' Why Ricky Ponting is excited about cricket in LA28 Olympics | ICC Review Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting shared his excitement on the ICC Review about cricket's reintroduction on a global stage in the 2028 Olympic Games. F1 drivers' title not just a McLaren duel, says Norris

Lando Norris can retake the Formula One championship lead from Oscar Piastri in Spain this weekend but both said Max Verstappen remained a threat and the battle was not just a duel between McLaren teammates. McLaren'stop two are separated by three points in the standings after eight of 24 races and the champions have won six times this year -- Piastri with four to Norris's two. Norris led for the first time after winning the season-opener in Melbourne before ceding the advantage to Piastri in round five in Saudi Arabia but closed the gap again by winning in Monaco last Sunday. Red Bull's Verstappen, the four-times world champion, has won twice and is third, 25 points behind Piastri. "I think mathematically probably the whole grid can win the championship. I think there's plenty of opportunities," said Norris. "Max can still win, I think Ferrari -- I expect them to get better into the season." "Max has been on the podium several times, he's won races, he beat us in Imola fair and square because he was quicker. I don't know what possibly makes you think that it's only between us (McLaren drivers)," added Norris. Spain is a favourite track for Verstappen, the place where he won for the first time in 2016, and Piastri expected the Dutch driver to go well again on Sunday. "I don't think he can be counted out," the Australian told reporters. "The gap is not very large at the moment and they've genuinely been competitive at a decent number of circuits now. "Of course there's been weekends where we've been stronger but I think they've been developing their car, they've been finding more performance. So I think at this point Max is definitely still in the title." Verstappen has won the last three Spanish Grands Prix, and four in total, and has been on the podium seven times in a row at the circuit but he was not bigging up his prospects on Thursday. "For me it doesn't really feel like a fight, to be honest," he told reporters. "I just try to do my best, have a bit of fun out there. "With some races we are really off the pace, which is not enjoyable. But the fighting spirit is still there. That is also never disappearing." Formula One also has a front wing rule change coming into effect this weekend, with the governing FIA carrying out more stringent stiffness tests. McLaren say they do not expect to be affected but others are taking a wait and see approach, with Ferrari even speaking of a potential game-changer.
