At the end of May, one of Cape Town's fastest-growing padel brands — Padel4Good — will host their first mixed event tournament since relocating from the Virgin Active Padel Arena in Paarden Eiland to the vibrant and popular Racket+Ball Club in Bree Street, Cape Town.
This week, however — on May 1, to be precise — it's the fastest fingers that will help secure a spot in one of the most exciting tournaments in the Western Cape padel community to date.
Regarding the padel court action, the wisest and fittest bodies ultimately decide who gets the spoils.
Entries for this competition will open this Thursday at 6pm, allowing 32 players (16 mixed teams) to secure their spots.
For the first time, this showpiece will cater to a wider pool of talent, as players between levels 2 and 5 on the Playtomic app are eligible to compete in Padel4Good's third overall mixed event since its inception in 2023.
In May 2024, at the inaugural P4G mixed event, Taryn Nel and well-known padel figure Luke Potter took home the spoils after an incredible final that kept fans on the edge of their seats. It was a game of inches that went down to the wire, with Tristan Karakashian and Genevieve Korsten eventually succumbing 5–4 in a tie-breaker to Nel and Potter.
In the second P4G mixed tournament, it was Kelly de Wit and Joshua Bransgrove who were crowned victorious after beating David Crommelin and Nel 5–4 in another thrilling tie-breaker on the centre court of the Virgin Active Padel Arena.
Earlier this month, the dominant sister duo of Lena Lisa Bester and Terina Coetzee were crowned champions of the very first P4G women's event of 2025 and continue to establish themselves as the 'team to beat' on padel circuits across the Cape, having won every event they have played together.
Will these sisters form part of two mixed teams?
Will Nel and Potter reclaim their throne? Or will de Wit and Bransgrove have their say again?
It all depends on who secures a spot on Thursday night. The link to enter the competition will be sent via the Padel4Good WhatsApp group and will be available across all its social media channels.
For those interested in learning more about padel or joining a league or circuit, find a venue convenient for you and download the Playtomic app. Playtomic allows players to find partners, join active matches wherever they are, compete against players at the same level thanks to a built-in rating feature, and arrange private matches with friends.
'Playtomic is one of the fastest-growing communities in the world, which means that no matter where you are, you can find a court nearby and players on your level to join your game,' said Padel4Good's Kathleen Barker.
'After each game, you record your score, and this is how you improve your level. It is easy to connect with players at your level, which helps especially if you are new to the game.
'It opens doors and connects you to players that you would not otherwise meet and be able to play with. When you travel, you can find nearby courts and set up a match — no matter where you are.'
Padel4Good has already confirmed its next two events on the 2025 calendar: the mixed event on May 30, and the men's event on June 27.

Racket and Ball set to host fourth P4G Men's show this month

TOP PLAYER Lena-Lisa Bester has been one of the stars of the Padel4Good brand, picking up various title wins and continues to shine on Padel courts across the Mother City. Picture: Keith Lyle/Cape Town Sport Photography The Racket and Ball Club in Bree Street, Cape Town, will soon need to apply some major Q20 spray to its front doors, as Padel enthusiasts regularly frequent this popular venue, which serves as one of South Africa's elite indoor centres. Since its establishment in 2023, the Racket and Ball Club continues to build itself as a prime spot for Padel players with a healthy community of over 3000 players per month, even during the colder months, which is a testament not only to the venue's hospitality and catering facilities but more importantly the commitment of the players and the growth of the sport in South Africa. The top-class venue, which includes four indoor Padel courts, has hosted various Padel players at different stages of their sporting journeys as the arena hosts several shows, including seasonal leagues. Not too long ago, Racket and Ball hosted the Aston Martin R275 000 cash tournament sponsored by PokerBet in March. Just this past weekend, Racket and Ball successfully rolled out the Maximos Cup which saw the Hungarian national Padel team touch down in Mzansi for the time to compete against RBC's (Racket and Ball Club) national team.

P4G Mixed Tournament extra special for Richard and Kim Woolrich

FINE FORM Richard Woolrich is all focus as his wife Kim returns a shot to their opponents GP and Lena-Lisa Bester in the finals of this past weekend's Mixed tournament in Bree Street. Picture: Keith Lyle/Cape Town Sport Photography. The event hosted athletes rated between 2 and 5 on the PlayTomic App - allowing lower-ranked players to level up and compete against more skilled opponents. This past weekend's show was not only the first mixed event at Padel4Good's new home since relocating from Paarden Eiland, but it was also the first time the brand would cast a wider net in terms of skill level. Competing at the high-end Racket+Ball Club in Bree Street, the couple secured their very first P4G title together when they overcame the dangerous duo of GP & Lena-Lisa Bester in the final of the competition that catered for 32 players registered on the PlayTomic App. The latest Padel4Good tournament in Cape Town was extra special for Richard and Kim Woolrich, who were crowned the first P4G mixed champions of 2025! Building a Legacy on the Padel Courts: Kim and Richard's Inspiring Journey with Padel4Good 'Mixed tournaments are great as you get exposed to a higher level, and the rallies are amazing. This event was also an opportunity for my husband and I to compete together in a sport we love,' said Kim Woolrich, who thrives off competitive moments. 'It was a great event with a great level of Padel. It feels extraordinary to win with my husband,' said Kim with a chuckle. Kim and Richard are slowly building a fearsome reputation on Padel courts across the Mother City, and by the looks of things, they're not slowing down. 'We have met so many amazing people through Padel. It's such a fun game, and I can feel that I am improving. My husband and I have played a few Padel4Good tournaments, and aside from the vibe, we love supporting such a great cause. "We also won the Africa Padel Mixed League,' added Kim, who also has three first-division ladies league titles to her name. Kim and Richard are playing the All Stars Mixed League at the Virgin Active Padel Centre in Paarden Eiland. Richard shares Kim's sentiments and is particularly proud of competing at such a high level with his wife. 'What a lekker way to spend a Friday date night with my wife! I have played a couple of the Padel4Good tournaments but I never made it into the finals. It was very cool to win in a strong mixed tournament with my wife. "And if I am not mistaken, I think we were the only husband and wife combo,' said Richard, who is a former Epicentre first-division men's winner. Aside from providing a platform to compete in one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, Padel4Good also aims to help women and children across the Western Cape. With the help of sponsors, ticket sales, and support from players, the non-profit organization works hand in hand with various brands to assist women and children exposed to and affected by gender-based violence, abuse, poverty, and hunger. 'Supporting a charity and combining it with what we love and get excited about every day is a no-brainer! We will be back at the next tournament. I want to thank everyone who dedicated their time to making this happen and finding a very clever way of giving back,' added Richard. Padel4Good returns on June 27th. South African Rayno Nel makes history as 'World's Strongest Man'

South Africa has a new sporting hero. Rayno Nel, a 30-year-old former rugby player from Bloemfontein, has just been crowned the World's Strongest Man. This victory marks a historic first—not only for South Africa but for the entire African continent and the southern hemisphere. Nel's triumph in Sacramento stunned the strongman world. In his debut at the World's Strongest Man final, he edged out defending champion Tom Stoltman by a razor-thin margin of just 0.5 points. The final event, the legendary Atlas Stones, saw Nel load the fourth stone mere fractions of a second ahead of his rivals, according to Good Things Guy. This clutch performance sealed his victory with a final score of 47 to Stoltman's 46.5. Canada's Mitchell Hooper finished third with 43.5 points. Nel's journey to global dominance is nothing short of remarkable. Born in Upington and raised in the rugby heartland of Bloemfontein, he played rugby for the Central University of Technology and the Free State Cheetahs. After retiring from rugby in 2019 to work as an electrical engineer, Nel discovered strongman competitions in 2023. He quickly made his mark, winning South Africa's Strongest Man twice and claiming Africa's Strongest Man titles in 2023 and 2024. He also dominated the 2024 Strongman Champions League season, becoming the world series champion. At the 2025 World's Strongest Man finals, Nel wasted no time making his presence felt. On Day 1, he won the opening KNAACK Carry & Hoist and placed second in both the 18-inch deadlift and the Hercules Hold. These results gave him a commanding lead of roughly seven points going into Day 2. Although Stoltman fought back with wins in the later events, Nel's early cushion proved decisive. Nel said, 'To represent South Africa in any way whatsoever feels surreal. We're a small country with many struggles, so this means so much to my people.' He added with a smile, 'I couldn't enjoy my favourite Black Label lager here in California, so I'll have to try American beer tonight.' The reaction back home was electric. South Africans from Cape Town to Johannesburg flooded social media with pride. The official South African Government Twitter account congratulated Nel, tweeting: 'HISTORY MADE! Congratulations to Rayno Nel, Africa's first-ever World's Strongest Man champion!' Nel's win is more than just a personal achievement. It's a beacon of hope and a symbol of possibility for South Africa's 'rainbow nation.' He is proof that with determination and hard work, even the strongest titles in sport are within reach. Nel remains humble and hungry. 'My strength came up fast, and I'm still improving,' he said. South Africa can now celebrate not just a champion, but a legend in the making.
