SSLC exam results on May 9, Plus-I seat shortage addressed: Minister Sivankutty
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: General Education Minister V Sivankutty on Tuesday said that the results of the SSLC exam will be announced on May 9. Last year, the results were announced on May 8. This year, a total of 4.27 lakh students had appeared for the SSLC exam from March 3 to March 26.
Allaying concerns on higher secondary seat shortage, the minister said a total of 4.24 lakh Plus-I seats, that include the marginal seat increase which came into effect from last year, have been ensured this year for the students who pass the SSLC exam.
Sivankutty said the results of the re-examination, conducted for Class VIII students who could not secure the subject minimum of 30% in the final exam, will be announced on May 2.
These students had attended additional support classes from April 8 to 24. While there were 86,309 students who secured E Grade (below 30%) in at least one subject, the number of students who scored E grade in all subjects were 5,516.
The minister also released the T-shirt to be worn by 1,500 schoolchildren who will participate in the mega zumba dance performance in the capital on Wednesday. He said zumba, aerobics and yoga, that could be performed together in schools by teachers and students, will be introduced from the next academic year.
Sivankutty said he will attend the governing council meeting of the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on May 2 in New Delhi.
The pending Central funds to the state through Samagra Shiksha Kerala and the alleged historical distortions made to NCERT textbooks will be highlighted at the meeting, he added.

Over 1,800 students clear SSLC-2 examination in DK, Udupi districts
As many as 993 students (35.66 %) of 2,785 class 10 students from Dakshina Kannada and 821 students (43.01 %) of 1,905 students from Udupi district have passed the SSLC-2 examination conducted in the last week of May. S. Sriram Shetty from Government High School Kundapura, Udupi district, was the topper with full 625 marks. In Dakshina Kannada, the Moodbidri block topped as 72 of the 145 students (49.66%) have passed. The next is Puttur block where 152 of the 341 students (44.57%) passed. A total of 154 of 349 students passed from Belthangady block (44.13%), and 83 of 200 students (41.5%) passed from Sullia block. As many as 222 of the 760 students (29.21%) have passed from Bantwal education block From the two Mangaluru city blocks, 157 (29.02%) from Mangaluru South and 153 (34.08%) from Mangaluru North blocks cleared SSLC-2 examination. Vikram Shailesha Nayak from Shree Nayarayana Guru English Medium High School, Katipalla, Mangaluru, and P.N. Sharadhi from Karnataka Public School, Bellare, Sullia taluk secured 622 marks. Sameeksha Sudhakara Shetty from Vani English Medium School Belthangady, Laxmi Sangayya Malimath from B.R. Ambedkar Residential School, Gurupura, Mangaluru, and P. Greeshma from Knanaya Jyothi English Medium High School Kadaba, Puttur have secured 620 marks. Shaina Lisha Monthero from Government High School Manila Bantwal taluk and Azweena Maimuna from Khilriya English Medium School, Idya, Surathkal, Mangaluru, have secured 618 marks. As many as 209 of 370 students (56.49%) passed from Kundapura block, 131 of 299 students (43.81%) from Karkala, 160 of 357 (44.82%) from Brahmavar, 140 of 368 students (38.04%) from Byndoor block and 181 of 511 (35.42%) students from Udupi blocks have passed. Among the toppers from Udupi district include M.S. Hariprasad from Sri Venkatramana English Medium School Kundapura and Chiranthan Bhat from Sandeepan English Medium School, Byndoor, who got 623 marks. Gauthami Gopal Bhandari from Sandeepan English Medium School, Byndoor, secured 622 marks. The third attempt of SSLC examination, SSLC-3, is scheduled to be held between July 5 and July 12.

'Wake Up At 5:30 AM, Study, Play, Repeat': NEET AIR 2 Utkarsh's Winning Formula
Last Updated: Utkarsh Awadhiya, who secured AIR 2 in NEET 2025, credits NCERT, coaching, mock tests, and disciplined preparation for his success. Utkarsh Awadhiya from Madhya Pradesh has secured All India Rank (AIR) 2 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET UG 2025) with an outstanding 99.9999095 percentile. He narrowly missed the top spot, as NEET topper Mahesh Kumar secured 99.9999547 percentile. Both secured 99.99 percentile, but a marginal difference in scores placed Utkarsh at the second position. Speaking with Utkarsh opened up about his preparation journey, daily routine, and how he remained motivated throughout the demanding two-year process. Utkarsh, who has been living in Indore for the past decade, comes from a supportive family. His father, Alok Awadhiya, works as a branch manager at HDFC Bank, while his mother, Ashi Awadhiya, is a homemaker. He also has a younger brother. Reflecting on his preparation, Utkarsh shared that his serious NEET journey began in Class 11. 'I joined coaching in Class 10, but my focused NEET preparation started two years ago when I entered Class 11. I mainly followed the NCERT books," he said. Staying disciplined was key for Utkarsh. He would start his day early, waking up around 5:30 to 6:00 AM. 'I used to study for 1-2 hours in the morning before beginning my daily routine. After breakfast, I attended coaching classes for 6-10 hours. Once I returned home by evening, I made sure to take out some time for leisure activities like playing volleyball or badminton. This helped me stay fresh and balanced," he said. Despite the pressure associated with competitive exams, Utkarsh maintained a stress-free approach towards his studies. 'I genuinely enjoyed studying. I would often get into a flow state where I wouldn't even realise how time passed. While my friends, family, and teachers were a huge support, my internal motivation was the biggest factor that kept me going," he explained. Utkarsh highlighted the crucial role of mock tests and previous year papers in his preparation. According to him, the structured curriculum and regular testing allowed him to cover his syllabus systematically and revise it thoroughly. 'I was always aware of the upcoming tests and topics well in advance, which helped me stay organised. I managed to revise the syllabus two to three times before the actual exam. Regular practice with mock tests helped me identify my weak areas and work on them efficiently," he added. For future NEET aspirants, Utkarsh had clear and practical advice. For repeaters, he suggests focusing on analysing past mistakes and correcting them with targeted preparation. For freshers starting in Class 11 or 12, his advice is to stay attentive in class and absorb as much as possible during lectures. 'Try to understand at least 50-60% of the concepts in class itself. After that, revise regularly as per the planner. If your coaching institute doesn't provide a detailed plan, create one for yourself and follow it strictly," he advised. He also stressed the importance of daily problem-solving after studying a topic. 'Solving questions helps you evaluate your understanding. If you get stuck, don't hesitate to ask your teachers for help," he said. Now, with NEET behind him, Utkarsh has his sights set on AIIMS — his next big goal.

Apart from my notes, I studied NCERT books thoroughly and revised at least 10 times before the exam, said Awadhiya.
