Al Seer Marine awarded Dh47.6 million contract to deliver high-speed interceptor vessels

ABU DHABI (WAM)Al Seer Marine (ASM), a frontrunner in advanced maritime solutions and a subsidiary of International Holding Company (IHC), has secured a production agreement valued at Dh47.6 million to deliver high-speed interceptor vessels to Albwardy Damen (Damen Shipyards Sharjah – DSSh).Delivery will span 42 months, with the units slated for integration into offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). All vessels will be designed, built, and outfitted entirely in the UAE, in alignment with the country's 'Make it in the Emirates' industrialisation initiative.'The global OPV market is projected to grow from $38.1 billion in 2024 to $73.3 billion by 2033, at a CAGR of 7.15 per cent, according to a recent report published via GlobeNewswire—positioning it as one of the highly profitable segments in the shipbuilding industry," said Guy Neivens, CEO of Al Seer Marine.He added, "With our long-term strategic vision, we anticipated this trajectory early, driving targeted investments in our technologies, infrastructure, and engineering depth to establish the naval shipbuilding vertical as a core driver of our revenue growth, portfolio diversification, margin resilience, and long-term value creation for our investors.'The move comes in response to accelerating global and regional demand for OPVs, particularly in the Middle East, where maritime security and naval capability development have become national imperatives.
In 2024, Al Seer Marine reported operational profits of Dh107 million on revenues exceeding Dh1.28 billion. The new production mandate is expected to enhance financial performance over the contract period and further strengthen the company's shift toward high-value, IP-driven manufacturing and defence export capabilities within the UAE

The second day of the Mining in Motion 2025 Summit highlighted global industry leaders advocating for greater formalization of the artisanal and small-scale mining sector (ASM). The event featured keynote presentations calling for increased cooperation between the ASM and large-scale operators to drive sustainable industry growth. David Tait, CEO of the World Gold Council, emphasized the scale and importance of the ASM sector, which provides livelihoods for over 40 million people globally. However, he noted that the sector continues to face critical challenges, including illegal operations and environmental degradation. 'With rising global demand and gold prices, illegal mining is on the rise - fueling civil unrest, child labor and depriving governments of billions in revenue that could support development,' Tait stated. 'There is a risk in slow policy responses. In 1990, ASM accounted for just 4% of global gold production; today, it represents over 20%.' He commended Ghana for its various mechanisms such as the Ghana Gold Board in addressing illicit mining. 'Government leadership is a fundamental requirement,' he added. He called for African markets to increase focus on the professionalization and formalization of ASM operations, increasing ASM access to legitimate financing, and the adoption of mercury-free processing methods. He also highlighted the World Gold Council's work with seven central banks, including several in Africa, to ensure gold purchases from ASM sources are channeled through legal frameworks. Additionally, the Council has developed a guide to foster effective collaboration between the ASM and LSM actors. Representing Africa's largest gold producer, Stewart Bailey, Chief Corporate Affairs&Sustainability Officer at AngloGold Ashanti, echoed the call for coexistence. 'ASM has been part of the value chain since we were incorporated. For many years our approach has been to co-exist with ASM wherever feasible,' noted Bailey. AngloGold Ashanti is working with governments, NGOs and global organizations like the World Gold Council to support ASM operators in adopting mercury-free practices, upholding human rights, and promoting environmental rehabilitation, according to Bailey. Allan Jorgensen, Head of Responsible Business Conduct at the OECD Centre, reinforced the importance of responsible mining practices. 'To unlock Africa's potential, we must confront the challenges associated with gold as a driver of illicit activities,' Jorgensen said. The OECD developed a Due Diligence Guidance, supported by governments and aligned with regulations like those of the London Bullion Market Association, to reduce environmental and social risks in gold supply chains. ADAFSA closes Bin Khalifa Cafeteria in Abu Dhabi for violating safety requirements
Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has issued a decision to administratively close Bin Khalifa Cafeteria facility in Abu Dhabi , which holds the trade license (CN-1049262), for violating Law No. (2) of 2008 regarding food in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the legislation issued thereunder, as well as for its danger to public health. ADAFSA explained that the food control report stated that the administrative closure decision against the facility came as a result of repeated food safety violations and the failure to apply effective corrective measures, which necessitated immediate action to ensure food safety and the health of consumers. The authority confirmed that the administrative closure order will continue against the facility until the reasons for the violations disappear, with the possibility of resuming the activity after correcting the conditions of the facility in full and adhering to all food safety requirements. ADAFSA pointed out that the administrative closure and the detection of violations comes as part of the Authority's plan to strengthen the food safety system in Abu Dhabi and subject all food establishments to periodic inspection to ensure their compliance with the requirements, with a focus on proactive protection for consumers and ensuring that all establishments comply with food safety requirements. ADAFSA appealed to the public to communicate with it, and to report any violations detected in any food establishment or when the safety of the food item is doubted by calling the toll-free number of the Government of Abu Dhabi 800555 so that the Authority's inspectors take the necessary action to reach safe and safe food for all members of society in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
