NIA files chargesheet against three accused in Punjab grenade attack case linked to Khalistan Zindabad Force
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday (June 15, 2025) chargesheeted three persons in connection with the 2024 case related to a grenade attack at a police post in SBS Nagar district of Punjab. The attack was allegedly planned by banned terror outfit, Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF).
Among those arraigned are Yugpreet Singh aka Yuvi Nihung; Jaskaran Singh aka Shah; and Harjot Singh aka Jot Hundal, all residents of Rahon village in SBS Nagar. The NIA has invoked various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
The agency has also launched investigations against KZF chief and designated 'individual terrorist' Ranjit Singh aka Neeta, the outfit's member operative Jagjit Singh Lahiri aka Jagga (currently in the United Kingdom), and other unidentified terror operatives.
The NIA, which took over the case from the Punjab Police in March, has found that Jagga had recruited Yugpreet Singh through an acquaintance in the U.K. 'Along with the other KZF terrorists and operatives, Jagga had radicalised Yugpreet and handled him via encrypted messaging applications. Jagga had also provided Yugpreet with over ₹4.36 lakh of terror funds through a complex chain of Canada-based entities, who have also been identified and examined,' it said.
In turn, Yugpreet allegedly recruited the other two chargesheeted accused and the three had carried out the attack at the police post in the intervening night of December 1 and 2, 2024. The grenade had been arranged by the foreign-based handlers in November 2024, it is alleged.
The NIA investigation into the terror attacks at the law enforcement establishments and sensitive installations, as well as targeted killings in Punjab, are going on.

Maoist informer held in explosives loot case
1 2 Bhubaneswar/Rourkela: Police on Sunday arrested a Maoist informer in connection with the audacious May 27 loot of 5,000 kg of industrial explosives by armed rebels from a stone quarry in Sundargarh district, bordering Jharkhand. Police identified the accused as George Munda alias Kulu Munda (43), a resident of Banko village near the stone quarry. Police said Munda had alerted the Maoists about the truck carrying explosives. The arrest came a day after a CRPF officer was killed following an IED blast triggered by the rebels in a forest near Banko during an anti-Maoist operation launched in the wake of the explosives loot. "Munda is the main conspirator. He passed on information to Maoists in neighbouring Jharkhand about the movement of gelatin sticks in a truck to the quarry. Munda also joined the Maoists in their operation in robbing the stone-blasting materials on May 27," said DIG (western range), Bijesh Kumar Rai. Police said Anmol, a Jharkhand-based Maoist leader, and his team pulled off the heist based on information provided by Munda. The armed Maoists had hijacked the truckload of explosives enroute the quarry, adjoining the Saranda forests in Jharkhand. SP (Rourkela) Nitesh Wadhwani said Munda planned the loot in Jan-Feb. Asked about how long the accused was involved with the Maoists, the SP said, "We are thoroughly verifying his antecedents and his link with Maoists. Prima facie investigation revealed he is a militia member and was acting as a helping hand for Maoists. We are also verifying the potential involvement of others from the locality." A villager's arrest has raised concerns in Sundargarh, which was declared Maoist-free status by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) in April 2024. Police sources said Munda had been opposing the Banko stone quarry's operations for quite some time. He allegedly connived with Maoists in the neighbouring state to disrupt the quarry operations. "Maoists who executed the loot were being persuaded by Munda since Jan. Munda's motive was to take revenge against the stone quarry operator," a police officer said. Earlier, Munda earned his living through unauthorised stone extraction. His work stopped when the govt granted the quarry lease to a businessman. "Subsequently, Munda approached Anmol in Jharkhand seeking assistance for retribution," the officer said. Munda suggested to Anmol they could loot explosives for use against security personnel, a proposal that Anmol agreed to. Police found that Munda and Anmol met several times before implementing their plan. "We have so far recovered 3,811.30 kg of the looted explosives near the inter-state border through a sustained joint operation with Jharkhand police and CRPF," Wadhwani said.

Formula E Race case: KTR to face second round of ACB questioning today
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao is set to appear before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday morning for a second round of questioning in connection with alleged financial irregularities related to the Formula E race in Hyderabad. KTR is accused of the illegal release of funds to the London-based company Formula E Operations (FEO), which was tasked with organising the race. The ACB served notices to KTR on June 13. He was first questioned in Jan this year and was let off after a day-long inquiry. He has now been summoned again to appear before ACB on Monday. "I have been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to appear for 'investigation' on Monday at 10 am in the Formula E case, where Rs 44 crore was transferred from bank to bank, and the money is very much in the account of FE. As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials," KTR posted on X on Friday. In its FIR, the ACB alleged that the state govt, during the BRS regime in 2023, transferred funds through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) in violation of established procedures. After the Congress govt came to power, it cancelled the planned second edition of the race and ordered an ACB probe into the matter. ACB has already questioned officials from the MAUD department, including former principal secretary Arvind Kumar, and representatives from Ace Nxt Gen and FEO.

Non-servitors climbing chariots during Rath Yatra to face arrest: Minister
Bhubaneswar: State govt on Sunday said any devotee disguising themselves as servitors of Puri Jagannath Temple to access the chariots during Rath Yatra on June 27 would face immediate arrest. Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said the govt would strictly implement rules preventing non-servitors from boarding chariots during Rath Yatra. The Orissa high court in 2014 restricted chariot access to only duty-bound servitors. "We will ensure that the highest level of discipline is maintained for the smooth conduct of the grand festival that will attract lakhs of devotees. Non-servitors will be booked and arrested if they are found on chariots. Any servitor facilitating the access of unauthorised persons onto chariots will also face legal action," Harichandan said, adding that servitors cannot use mobile phones on chariots like previous years. Our prime objective is to keep the chariots less crowded and maintain discipline," Harichandan said. The announcement follows an incident from July 9, 2024, when Lord Balabhadra's idol slipped from hands of servitors during transfer from the chariot to Gundicha Temple, two days after Rath Yatra. Temple sources attributed the fall to excess number of servitors during Pahandi. Critics said previous attempts to control crowds on chariots and during Pahandi have proved ineffective. "Prior to every Rath Yatra, govt had made such claims. But those decisions and announcements were never translated into action. Servitors in large numbers attended Pahandi and allowed their guests in priestly dresses to climb the chariots for huge monetary gain," claimed Bibhuti Ranjan Mallick, a culture enthusiast in Bhubaneswar. Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said police complaints were previously lodged against non-servitors for boarding chariots. "We had also got cases registered against a few servitors for assisting devotees to get access to chariots. In 2016, an Atlanta-based NRI was arrested for climbing a chariot in the guise of a servitor," an SJTA official said.
