WWDC 2025: Apple teases iOS 26 with new features, ‘Liquid glass' UI design
At the Worldwide Developer Conference, Apple shared a preview of iOS 26, one of the biggest updates to its operating system in years. The Cupertino based tech giant said iOS 26 'brings a beautiful new design, intelligent experiences, and improvements to the apps users rely on every day'.
Dubbed 'Liquid Glass', the new design language introduces a 'new translucent material that reflects and refracts its surroundings.' The new design also changes the way users access controls and navigate and extends to the Home Screen and Lock Screen as well.
Apple has also brought changes to the app icons, widgets and other interfaces users interact with on a daily basis. Another huge change is that Apple has published an updated set of APIs that offers developers access to Liquid Glass materials, similar to how Google has for Android with its Material 3 design language.
With iOS 26, Apple has also changed the look, feel and positions of various apps including Apple Music, News, and Podcasts. Talking of app designs, Apple says its apps now 'fit perfectly concentric with the rounded corners of modern hardware and app windows.'
The company says that the newly redesigned tab bar in these apps now floats above the user's content and dynamically shrinks when they are browsing and expands when they scroll back up. As for tab bars and side bars, Apple seems to have gone with the same approach with iOS 26. AppleThe new Liquid Glass design language extends to other Apple operating systems like iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS as well.

Apple Watch's Workout Buddy is an AI coach that talks you through workouts
watchOS 26 is here, and it brings Workout Buddy , Apple's first-of-its-kind AI fitness coach that lives right on your wrist and speaks directly into your ears. Building on Apple Intelligence , this generative voice trainer uses your workout data and fitness history to deliver real-time motivation during exercise sessions. Workout Buddy taps into everything from your heart rate and pace to your Activity rings and personal milestones, then translates that data into personalized pep talks. "Way to get out for your run this Wednesday morning. You're 18 minutes away from closing your Exercise ring," it might say as you start a workout. During runs, it'll call out mile splits and celebrate achievements like crossing your 200-mile mark for the year. WWDC 2025 — June 9 | Apple The AI coach uses a text-to-speech model built from actual Fitness+ trainer voices, so it sounds like a real fitness instructor with the right energy and tone. Users can pick from multiple voices to find their perfect match. When workouts end, Workout Buddy recaps your stats and achievements, asking "What will you do next?" Available starting in English across popular workout types like outdoor runs, indoor walks, cycling, HIIT, and strength training, Workout Buddy requires an Apple Intelligence-supported iPhone nearby and Bluetooth headphones. The Workout app itself gets its biggest redesign since launch, with four corner buttons for quick access to features like Custom Workout and Race Route. New media integration lets Apple Music automatically select playlists based on workout type and personal taste, while podcast suggestions adapt to your listening history for specific exercises. As Apple emphasized throughout WWDC, all processing remains "personal and private" on device.

iOS 26 Developer Beta 1 for iPhones now available: How to download, size and Apple's cautionary note to users
iOS 26 beta 1 for iPhone is now available for developers. Apple announced the next major software update for iPhone on Day 1 of its annual developers conference Worldwide Developers Conference. As always, Apple announced the updates to its software as part of its keynote for the event. iOS 26 follows iOS 18 as each Apple operating system replaces the incremental version number with a reference to the year ahead. This means, there is no iOS19 this year, it is now called iOS 26. This unified naming convention goes for all its operating systems, across devices. iOS 26 is defined by a major redesign, replacing the look introduced in iOS 7 with a new design language called Liquid Glass. The software update will be available on iPhone 11 and later this fall. For now, Apple has started publicly testing iOS 26 through its beta program, starting with developers. Reports suggest that the size of the iOS 26 Developer Beta 1 is 15GB. How to download iOS 26 developer beta 1 right now In 2023, Apple announced a significant change to its developer beta access policy, allowing iPhone users to download and install Developer Beta without enrolling in the paid Apple Developer Program. As of 2023, users can access developer betas by simply joining the free Apple Beta Software Program with their Apple account. To enroll, users can sign in with their Apple ID and enable the developer beta option in the Settings app. Once enrolled, the iOS 26 Developer Beta 1 can be installed via an over-the-air update. On an iPhone, users can navigate to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates to select and install the latest beta version. Apple cautions users Apple cautions that iOS 26 Developer Beta 1, as a pre-release version, may lack some announced features, exhibit instability, or cause compatibility issues with third-party apps. The company recommends installing beta software only on secondary devices dedicated to testing and advises users to back up their devices before proceeding. Users interested in exploring iOS 26 Developer Beta 1 are encouraged to proceed with caution and ensure their devices are backed up to avoid potential data loss or performance issues. For those hesitant to experiment with developer Betas, Apple also offers a public beta program, which provides more stable pre-release versions for early adopters eager to test new features and provide feedback.

Apple WWDC 2025 Highlights - Check everything that happened
Apple at WWDC 2025 has unveiled upgrades to operating systems across its devices on Monday, including overhauled visual elements, a fresh naming system for software updates and new features in its Apple Intelligence suite. At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, the company also said it would open up the underlying technology it uses for Apple Intelligence to developers. Operating Systems This year's major iOS release would have originally been called iOS 19, following the usual sequence after iOS 18. However, Apple is now changing its naming convention: future iOS versions will be numbered based on the year following their release—similar to how car manufacturers name new models. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Costco Shoppers Say This Wrinkle Cream Is "Actually Worth It" The Skincare Magazine Undo Several parts of the operating systems are getting a major visual overhaul as part of the redesign. The Phone app now includes call screening, allowing it to answer calls or wait on hold for you. The Messages app is also getting updates that include customizable chat backgrounds. Apple also said it would add generative AI to its Xcode coding tools that can help developers write code, test it and resolve errors. The company said it would add other coding models such as ChatGPT to Xcode. Live Events Apple AI New additions to the operating system include Live Translation, which uses on-device AI models to translate conversations in real time, in text messages, phone calls or FaceTime. Apple Pay is also getting Apple Intelligence integration, enabling it to track orders even for purchases made outside Apple Pay. Meanwhile, Image Playground is getting a boost with a new feature that allows users to generate images with the help of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Apple will now allow developers to tap into its on-device foundational model for their own apps. Through the new Foundation Models framework, developers can build intelligent, privacy-focused experiences that work offline too. Apple Visual Intelligence Apple will also let users learn more about what's on their iPhone screens via Visual Intelligence. Users can search across Google, Etsy and other supported apps to find visually similar images or products. If the tool detects that you're viewing an event, iOS 26 will suggest adding it to your calendar. This feature will be accessible using the same button combination used to take a screenshot on an iPhone. Apple Liquid Glass Apple is rolling out a new "Liquid Glass" design language across its software, bringing sleek translucence and a glass-like shine to app interfaces. Inspired by visionOS on the Vision Pro augmented reality device, the design adapts to light and dark modes and reacts dynamically to movement using real-time rendering. The new design will be implemented in buttons, sliders, media controls and larger elements such as tab bars and sidebars, along with matching redesigned toolbars and navigation. Apple is releasing updated Application Programming Interfaces so that developers can begin adapting their apps ahead of the new design rollout later this year. FAQs Q1.
