Shafaq News/ Al-Sulaymaniyah Police Command announced on Friday that a heightened security plan will be in place during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday.
The Police Command added that the plan will focus on securing public areas and high-population zones, including ongoing search and inspection operations to apprehend wanted individuals and lawbreakers.
In a statement, the police confirmed that the plan encompasses protecting citizens, places of worship, and religious shrines. Additionally, increased security will be provided for markets, commercial centers, restaurants, parks, and amusement areas, which typically see a surge in visitors during the holiday.
Protection will also be intensified around cemeteries and burial sites, which attract significant numbers of visitors during this time.
The police command noted that senior security leaders would be on the ground, leading their units in direct supervision of the plan's implementation.
In addition, the plan will include field inspections to track criminals and lawbreakers, with an emphasis on enhancing efforts to combat organized crime.
Furthermore, emergency response units, including patrols, fire crews, and ambulances, will be stationed near public and recreational areas to ensure a swift response to any emergencies.
Plainclothes intelligence teams will also be deployed to monitor negative behaviors and address them according to legal procedures.
Al-Sulaymaniyah Police Command confirmed that all security forces have been on alert since Thursday, and will maintain the heightened security measures until after the holiday to ensure the stability of the province.

Fiery night: Israel, Iran trade massive strikes

Shafaq News/ Iran and Israel carried out sweeping overnight attacks on each other's territory, targeting strategic sites and population centers in a major escalation of hostilities. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a new wave of Operation True Promise 3, deploying ballistic and hypersonic missiles toward Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, and northern Israel. Iranian media claimed successful breaches of Israeli air defenses, with hits reported on residential areas and critical infrastructure. Additional missiles were reportedly launched from Iranian territory toward Haifa, while Israeli radar systems tracked drone and missile activity from Yemen. Iranian officials also accused Mossad-linked operatives of firing rockets from inside Tehran at an IRGC facility. Meanwhile, Israeli jets expanded Operation Rising Lion, striking Iranian nuclear, military, and energy facilities in Tehran, Isfahan, and Shahraan. Blasts at a fuel depot west of the capital ignited major fires, and Iran's Defense Ministry confirmed damage to a military research center and an administrative building. The latest exchange followed Israeli airstrikes that killed senior IRGC commanders and targeted nuclear infrastructure. Tehran characterized its retaliation as a sovereign act timed with Eid al-Ghadir, using missiles named after assassinated commander Qassem Soleimani. Soleimani served as the commander of the Quds Force, an IRGC elite branch. He was killed on January 3, 2020, in a targeted US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport in Iraq. By Sunday morning, Israeli authorities reported six killed and 240 injured in Bat Yam and Rehovot, while Iranian media said 78 people were killed—including 29 children—and over 320 wounded.

Missile debris falls in northern Iraq amid Israel-Iran escalation

Shafaq News/ Debris from suspected Iranian missiles landed in Iraq's Nineveh and Saladin provinces Sunday, as regional tensions soared following a sharp military exchange between Iran and Israel. Security sources stated that the missile remnants fell in unpopulated areas, causing no casualties or damage but prompting immediate investigations and local alarm. In Nineveh, a security official reported that fragments of a missile struck a remote area in Tal Abta subdistrict, west of Mosul. The projectile landed in Tal Ajjour village, an uninhabited zone, and was discovered by Iraqi security forces. In Saladin, another security source confirmed that parts of an unidentified missile landed on the outskirts of Tuz Khurmatu, east of the province. 'Preliminary assessments indicate the object was part of a long-range missile launched from Iran during the Saturday night strikes targeting Israel,' the source noted. The incident comes amid a severe regional escalation that began with Israeli airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities late Friday, which killed several senior IRGC commanders. In response, Iran launched waves of ballistic missiles and drones at Israeli territory on Saturday night, marking the most dangerous direct confrontation between the two rivals in years.

Haifa hit: Iran reports direct strikes on key Israeli infrastructure

Shafaq News/ On Saturday, Iranian media reported that missiles launched from Iran struck oil refineries and the port of Haifa, marking a significant escalation in the confrontation with Israel. According to Tasnim News Agency, Haifa is the primary target of the Iranian operation. Additional Iranian outlets released video footage showing direct impacts on the city's port facilities and oil infrastructure. In response, Israeli authorities instructed residents in northern and central Israel to move to protected shelters and remain there until further notice. Air defense systems were also activated, engaging in real time to intercept the incoming projectiles. Israeli media reported two fatalities and 14 injuries, including one in critical condition, as a result of the strikes. Preliminary accounts also indicated a possible leak of hazardous materials at the Port of Haifa. No official details have emerged regarding the full extent of the damage. The events come less than 48 hours after Israeli warplanes struck nuclear and military facilities inside Iran, killing senior IRGC commanders and top nuclear scientists, and inflicting damage on infrastructure at Natanz and Isfahan.
