Shamar Joseph stunned the cricket world. Now he wants another crack at Australia … and Konstas

In just two Tests against Australia, Joseph became a hero in the Caribbean.
After removing Steve Smith with his first delivery in Test cricket, Joseph finished those two matches with 13 wickets and 57 runs. Then came a hero's welcome across the Caribbean.
'A lot has changed,' Joseph says. 'There were a lot of opportunities that came my way.
'There was a big welcome by fellow Guyanese people and all over the Caribbean. Everywhere I go, there are a lot of congratulations and a lot of love has been shown towards me because of my achievement. Not just my achievement, but West Indies cricket overall. It's been a while since we have done something great against Australia.
Joseph returned home to the remote riverside Guyanese village of Baracara to celebrate before the next whirlwind: a contract with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL.
There were concerns Joseph might drift into the T20 circuit, but he says Test cricket is still very close to his heart.
'This man may be the saviour in the purest form of the game,' former Australian captain Steve Waugh wrote on Instagram at the time of Joseph's heroics. 'Cinderella stories are rare in sport but this was truly epic from a young man who has single-handedly reignited the passion of cricket followers in the Caribbean and all over the world.'
After such a magnificent start to his career, it was always going to be difficult for Joseph to maintain such a high standard of world-class fast bowling.
He played three Tests against England in mid-2024, taking respective match figures of 0-68, 2-119 and 2-72.
Joseph picked up 12 wickets in his next three Tests against South Africa and Bangladesh, but hasn't played a red ball match for the West Indies since November last year, having battled shin splints and hamstring issues.
Joseph was at this year's IPL but didn't play a game. He went wicketless in one-day internationals against Ireland and England, but recently, showed signs of rhythm in a West Indies A match against South Africa A, collecting 1-78 and 2-40.
In total, Joseph has 29 wickets from eight Tests at a healthy average of 26.75.
If selected, Joseph is eager to test himself against Australia again, including 19-year-old Sam Konstas, who turned heads with a bold Boxing Day debut.
Does Joseph think the teenager opener will have the audacity to try and ramp him?
Joseph grins. 'Well, that's up to him. I will do my part.'
'I think my pace will be back to normal again. I'm looking to put the ball in my areas and I'm up for the challenge.
'I actually saw him [Konstas] against India playing his shots. It was encouraging him coming out as a youngster making his debut with that confidence.
'I just want to stay focused.'
Joseph says he's learned plenty since his debut and still exchanges the occasional message with Australian captain Pat Cummins, who he met again during the IPL.
'He just encouraged me to keep doing the hard work,' Joseph says. 'He said to remember what I did to get here and keep doing the best I can.'

Joseph's match-winning performance at the Gabba reduced West Indies legend Brian Lara to tears in the commentary box. The last time the West Indies beat Australia before that Gabba Test was when Lara made 60 in a world-record fourth-innings run chase of 418 in Antigua in 2003.
Joseph believes his team can deliver another upset across a series that heads to Barbados, Grenada and Jamaica.
'There's a lot of confidence. We work as a team to be successful,' Joseph says.

Minjee Lee wins women's PGA championship to clinch third golf major

Australian star Minjee Lee moved another step closer to golfing greatness by winning a third major trophy at the women's PGA Championship in Texas, finishing -4, and three shots clear of Thailand's Chanettee Wannasaen and American Auston Kim. The hard-fought win in windy conditions sees Lee join Karrie Webb (7), Peter Thomson (5) and Jan Stephenson (3) as the only Aussies to win three or more major trophies. Lee was in the box seat heading into the final round after shooting a remarkable bogey-free three under in the third round to take a four stroke lead over Thailand's world number two Jeeno Thitikul. That lead went out to five shots when Thitikul bogeyed the first at Fields Ranch, but in brutally tough conditions, Lee suffered a few wobbles to open her final round, with four bogeys in the opening 10 holes seeing her lead cut down to two. But the ice cool Lee remained calm just as the pressure really ramped up, with a clutch par putt on the par three 13th maintaining her two shot advantage over Kim, Wannasaen and Thitikul. Big time birdies on 14 and 15 saw Lee with one hand on the trophy with her lead restored to four shots, but there was still work to do after a bogey on 16. The West Australian was perfect on 17 and 18 to add the PGA trophy to her 2021 Evian Championship and 2022 US Open triumph. The legendary Webb called into the broadcast as Lee fought back over the final six holes. 'She's hanging tough, she's got such a great mentality for major championships,' Webb said of Lee. 'She's not showing any negative body language to her playing partners, which is probably making them feel like she's in control, even though she's probably very nervous.' Lee, Wannasaen and Kim were the only three players to finish the championship under par on a tough course, with Aussies Gabriela Ruffels and Grace Kim finishing in a share of 36th. Karis Davidson and Stephanie Kyriacou finished +12 in 47th, while 2019 PGA Championship winner Hannah Green finished 68th.

Minjee Lee takes out the Women's PGA Championship and collects $2.8 million

Minjee Lee is a major champion for a third time after taking out the Women's PGA in Texas and collecting the equal biggest payday in history to reassert herself as a force and move into rarefied air in Australian sport. Starting the final round at Fields Ranch East just outside Dallas, where the Australian star has made her US base, Lee toughed out the scorching and windy conditions, riding out some significant early bumps on a rollercoaster final day. As temperatures hit 35C, Lee led by as many as five shots, and as few as two after three front nine bogeys, before a steely performance across her final six holes secured an emphatic three-shot win, despite a two-over par closing round of 74, to finish on four-under and collect the $2.8m winner's cheque. Such was the brutal nature of the four days in Texas, Lee was one of only three players in the entire field to finish under par. Lee, 29, became just the fourth Australian golfer to win three or more majors, joining Karrie Webb (seven), Peter Thomson (5) and Jan Stephenson (3) in an elite category. She added the PGA to the US Open she won in 2022, and the Evian Championship in 2021 and now has three legs of the women's major grand slam among 13 worldwide wins in an elite career. Webb was on hand in Texas to see Lee's win and the new PGA champion said her Aussie mentor was 'always supporting me regardless of where I am in the world'. Pretty insane that Min Woo Lee is the second best golfer in his family. His sister Minjee has a FIVE shot lead at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. — Fore Play (@ForePlayPod) June 22, 2025 The win also ended a 19-month winless drought for the former world No.2, the longest of her decorated career, a run which moved her to make significant changes going in to 2025. Lee changed her club supplier and also moved to a broomstick putter to address the issues which also cost her victory in last year's US Open, the win in Texas helping bury those Demons having lost a three-shot lead in the final round. But it wasn't without drama. Lee surrendered the monster lead she had at Fields Ranch, this time on the front nine, with three bogeys in her opening six holes. This time the chasers didn't come as hard though, and Lee, who came from three shots behind herself in the third round to take control, navigated her shaky star to recover with a birdie on her ninth hole. With the wind whipping the flat, treeless, baked layout, Lee was managing her mental state as much as he game. She was still in control of the leaderboard, and despite another bogey to start the back nine, with her lead reduced to two shots, she got that shot back with a birdie on 14 and another on 15 to lead by four shots, giving her herself a significant cushion going in to the final stretch of tough holes. A nervous bogey on the 16th after missing the fairway dropped her lead to three shots with two to play, but both her nearest challengers were already in the clubhouse. But having vowed to use the experience she gained in her two previous major wins, Lee stuck her tee shot on the par 3 17th to the middle of the green, walked off with par and down the tough 18th hole with a three shot lead. Lee laced her drive down the final hole, nailed her seven-iron approach before two putts delivered one last par and another trophy. The win will also send Lee back up the rankings, having slipped outside the world's top 20 for the first time since 2015 amid her winless run. FINAL LEADERBOARD 4-under Minjee Lee 1- under Auston Kim, Chanettee Wannasaen 7 - Karrie Webb 5 - Peter Thomson 3 - Minjee Lee, Jan Stephenson

Aussie ace Minjee Lee wins Women's PGA Championship

Cementing her greatness, Australian golf superstar Minjee Lee has claimed a historic third career major with a steely victory at the mega-money Women's PGA Championship in Texas. Lee had her four-shot overnight lead slashed in half early in the final round before hanging on, then surging gamely for a three-shot triumph in more extremely trying conditions at PGA Frisco's windswept Fields Ranch East course. The 29-year-old bogeyed three of the first six holes in an understandably anxious start before steadying to close with a sufficiently sound two-over-par 74 on championship Sunday (Monday AEST). Lee finished with a 72-hole four-under 284 total to deny fast-finishing American Auston Kim (68) and Thai Chanetee Wannasaen (68) improbable comeback victories at the third women's major of the year. In adding to her 2021 Evian Championship triumph and 2022 US Open success, Lee completed the third leg of women's golf's fabled grand slam to edge ever closer to a place in the sport's Hall of Fame. The British Open and Chevron Championship are the only two majors to elude Lee. Just as significantly, Lee joined legends - and fellow females - Karrie Webb and Jan Stephenson as only the third Australian golfer in history to win three different major championships. With three majors, Lee also surpassed the great Greg Norman and David Graham on Australia's all-time majors winning list. Lee now only trails seven-times major champion Webb and five-times British Open winner Thomson. Sunday's victory also snapped a 19-month winless run, the longest drought of her decorated career, and secured Australian women's sport's highest earner another monster cheque of $US1.8 million ($A2.8 million). Perhaps most gratifying of all, the Perth prodigy also buried the demons from last year's spectacular final-round crash at the US Open. Lee opened up a three-stroke back-nine lead only to collapse down the stretch to finish tied for ninth at Lancaster Country Club.
