Seneca FFA chapter continues decades-long tradition by placing flags on military graves
SENECA, Mo. — A labor of love – and respect – for a number of students in Seneca.
Members of the high school's FFA chapter spent time after school on this, the last day of school placing American flags on the graves of military personnel at the Seneca cemetery.
The cemetery is unique, in that part of it is in Newton County — and the other part covers a portion of Ottawa County. More than four hundred flags were placed on gravesiteson Thursday.
'We believe that we should give these people honor for what they did. If they — they might have died in service, they might have served, they might have survived, they might have seen a buddy die. It's just something we do in honor of them serving for our freedom and our country,' said Paxton Bruegel, Seneca FFA Chapter President.

'Fills you with so much emotion and solace just to see how many people there are out here, and how many people served for our country. I feel like that's a life lesson that can be learned just from walking through some of these cemeteries,' said Joshua Roller, Seneca FFA Chapter VP.
The flags will remain on the graves throughout all of next week. This has been a tradition in Seneca for 20 years.

What begins as a seemingly normal advert quickly descends into chaos as the staff deals with bats, bees and broken elevators (all real problems reported by air traffic controllers). 'My father was an air traffic controller, and I feel a real connection with him here at this job, especially because this is the exact same computer he used,' Benjamin's character remarks as he points to a sticker that reads 'Dukakis for President '88.' 'He had to retire because the doctor said he had more ulcer than stomach. What are you gonna do?' Meanwhile, in a moment parodying the real technology lag in control towers, Mejia's young worker is shown confused when faced with a floppy disk, opting to put it into the toaster. 'It's a lot like a video game, except we can never hit pause, there are no extra lives and instead of NPCs, it's you and your loved ones,' her character says. As the filming of the parody gets interrupted by power outages ('Dave, one flush, we talked about this!' Benjamin yells out to Howery's character), Mejia's plea to her colleagues to return from a photo op — 'I'm juggling like seven f—ing flights' — ends the sketch. Atlantic hurricane season begins
The Atlantic Basin hurricane season began June 1. The Atlantic Basin includes the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf and the Caribbean. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its forecast for the upcoming season, which runs through November 30. They are predicting 13 to 19 named storms, six to 10 of which may become hurricanes. Forecasters are predicting a 60 percent chance of an above-average season. The development zones for tropical development are typically the Gulf, down into the Caribbean between the Yucatan and Cuba, and the Eastern seaboard. Here's a look at the names for the 2025 Atlantic Basin hurricane season: The prediction of an above-average season has to do with ENSO-neutral conditions expected, along with an enhancement in the West African monsoon.
